Semi-Profesional camera suggestions?

So I am getting a few hundred for my tax return and I'm in college and I want to get a 300-400 maybe 500 dollar camera I could use preferably a nikon or canon or similar that I could use to take great pictures of a few state parks. Obviously if there is something great for less I am gracious for those answers to. Thanks for all the advice

Image quality reduces when transferred from digital camera?

People, i need help. The image quality reduces when i transfer pictures from dslr to laptop or cellphone.
The pictures look great in camera and of good quality but when i transfer them to other device for edit or simply viewing, they look like as if they are taken from a random camera.
I have nikon d5300.
