Why doesnt my camera focus and beep?

I have a Nikon d3000 the battery is fully charged. i can take a picture of things up close and across the room. yet when i try to zoom in on far away things…things i usually can shoot.it wont focus or beeb which is saying it is focused

A short introduction about a Dslr lenses for me?

I'm new to photography. Can anybody teach me what camera lenses on a Nikon D5100 do? I mean I know the lenses are used to take the picture but how will it enhance the picture? I find some Slrs having a scope as if it was a gun attachment or something alike. How is this necessary?

I'm going to buy a dslr for an independent music video. I don't want to buy something I'll regret.

When will we see the first 2k prosumer camera for under $800?

When will be see the first fully developed interchangeable lens 2k camera for under 800? Will it be Canon who tackles this one?Nikon?or some obscure camera company?

Hopefully it will be full frame 35mm!

How to focus in video mode?

I can get 9 focus points thru viewfinder while taking still pictures using my Nikon D3200. But In video mode, I don't get them. In video mode, pressing record button does not even work if I'm NOT in LiveView mode. Problem in LiveView mode is that the green color focusing rectangle moves too slow. If I could record video thru viewfinder I could change focus points much faster.
