Manual extension tubes with Nikon D7100?

I am looking to purchase some inexpensive extension tubes off of Amazon to pair up with my 40MM Macro lens. Since the D7100 has an internal focusing motor will the camera auto focus both the rings and lens? Or will I have to do everything manually? Thanks in advance for the help.

Should I trade my Nikon d3100 for D50/70?

I got my Nikon D3100 a year ago. Not really thinking, or researching, it was kind of a rash decision.
Well, I've invested into a lot of AF lens. Being that the Nikon D3100 doesn't have the focusing motor built in, it's becoming a pain in the ***. I don't want to keep spending $300 per lens. I'm a college student, don't really have the money to keep blowing on the newer, more expensive lens right now.

I was wondering, should I keep my D3100 or trade it for a D70 or D50? Will that be a bad trade in your eyes? I do photography of course and I'm currently whipping together a home based studio.

What do you guys think?

Does anyone own a Targus Crave 15.6 inch slipcase? Is it any good?

I have recently purchased a Targus 15.6 inch / 39.6cm Crave Laptop Slipcase, and would like to know if it was worth the money? (I bought it on eBay so I haven't got it yet). So can someone tell me if the case is durable, resistant blah blah blah etc… Is the case itself good overall, comfortable to carry…

Thanks for your time!

Do Megapixels Matter?

I want an entry-level DSLR that's not too expensive, but that produces sharp images and good quality images. I was looking at the Nikon d3300, mostly because it has 24.2 megapixels. However, the Canon cameras for the price range that I'm looking at are 18 megapixels. I have a Canon SX40 HS (12 MP), and I decided I should get something better, because I wasn't too fond of my SX40 HS. I heard that people praise the d3300 for its sharpness, but then I realized that most of what you want in your camera/your images depends on the lens. So do the megapixels in the cameras matter? Which one has better Image quality? Is the d3300 better than the Canons? If I want a Canon lens, would it be worth getting the Canon, despite a smaller amount of pixels? Or should I get the d3300 with a Nikon lens? OR, should I get a lens from neither of those companies (Tokina or sigma)? What lenses would you recommend? The lenses that I need are one for wildlife photography (so a long lens with a large focal distance like 200-300mm) and an all-around lens so something like a 18-200 or something like that. And i want good image quality. Please give feedback, any feed back would be greatly appreciated!

About Nikon AF and AF-S lenses?

I have a Nikon D5100 and I consider buying a 50mm AF lens and perhaps a 70-300mm AF or 55-200mm AF, and I know that it won't autofocus on my camera.

My question is, is it really worth the price if I buy AF-S lenses, one that would autofocus on my camera? Or should I stick to the AF?

I admit that I get a bit pissed when I use my 18-55mm in manual focus because the rotation is "too soft", and I also thought that it would be "different" when it comes to adjusting the focus on a prime and zoom lens manually.

P.S. I'm quite fine in handling focus on manual film SLRs too, and it didn't give me a headache like what I do with my dslr's kit lens.

Thanks!

What are the best settings for taking pictures of dog agility outdoors with a Nikon D7100?

I am getting some blur using Shutter priority, AF-C 9 point, 1/250, F7-10 range (varies on what camera chooses), ISO 100.
Added (1). Lens was 18-140. I have blur all over the place which I am not used to as I shoot things liek this often. For example, I have one at F-8, 1/250, ISO 100 56 mm. Then, I have another at F8 1/250, ISO 100, 140 mm. I have the actual settings at ISO-AUTO with 320 F 3.5 set.
Added (2). I should add that I have blur in body. For example, face in focus, blur on legs. Or, oddly focus on body but blur in foreground of grass. I am used to bokeh when shooting posed pictures but this is unlike that. There was some wind, so many that contributed but I have never seen blur of grass this badly before.

Which DSLR for university?

I am going to be studying Photography next year and would like to upgrade my camera. I have owned a Canon 450D for a few years now, but would like to upgrade before my course starts.

I have been looking at the Canon 70D, 7D and 6D models. I like the 6D as it is full frame and is said to perform well in low light conditions however it is the most expensive of these (I would definitely have to buy it second hand, though this is fine).

My budget is around £1000 though is slightly flexible as I do have a year to save. I have seen used Canon 6Ds go for £1200-£1300 on eBay with 24-105mm f/4 L IS lens kit. Is this a good deal or should I go for a cheaper model and be able to afford extras such as a flash/extra lens also?

What model will I be expected to have at degree level? Ideally I would like to spend as little as possible but also want to make sure that I have a camera suitable for the 3 year course.

P.S. I am sticking with Canon as I am familiar with it and have lenses already that I would like to keep!

Thank you to anyone who answers!

Pentax SLR K-7 stops recording randomly?

Everytime I go to record something, even though it says that there is ten minutes of recording time left on the card, it stop recording at just before two minutes. I can easily continue recording after it stops, it just means that I can't continuously record and since I make movies, I really need this fixed.

I don't think it's a problem with the card because I have two different cards (different types and sizes) and neither of them help. I've tried looking online but everything I've found is for Canon.

DSLR for macro and buildings?

I am coming back from years ago and my beloved Minolta 7000i film camera is still in the cupboard. Meanwhile my eyes are not what they were and I wear specs but still want to produce presentable if not publishable stuff. If there is such a thing as an enthusiast DSLR with no video or other toys but heavenly image quality because all the money goes into image quality I would like it if it exists. Coming back to earth the last camera I saw that gave satisfactory results for me was a Nikon 5000 which was about my price level, so can someone more up to date kindly give me a few ideas please what to look at? Some features I need are full frame, good live view and a high ISO performance. Thank you.

Selective color filter for photos? NikonD3200?

Ok so I love that my nikon has the feature built in however I just recently realized this. So I have some photos I want to use the effect on. Here is my problem I can't get the photos back viewable on the camera so I can't get the effect. I've tried a few things the files are on the memory card just not readable
I'm fixing my old computer and gonna try to do the same with original files but I don't really think that will help. Any ideas on how to get pictures readable on the camera through memory card?!

If not what are some good apps both for MacBooks or iphone that can do the selective color effect? I want the actual effect where you choose the color and it does the rest not all the crap where you color the areas you want colored in my mine always come out crappy.

Been looking for ages doubt I'll get any help here but I'm desperate because now that I know about it it makes me sick I can't do anything with some of my best pictures

Macro lens for Nikon 3200?

So I am looking for a nice macro lens for my nikon d3200. And I'm just wondering if its worth it to save up for a nice $400 or more lens(from the Nikon website) or if this one is okay?

Invest in a new DSLR or Buy a used older model?

I want to start taking pictures for people but I don't own a good DSLR

I'm looking at the Canon Rebel t3i which is 499.79 with tax and all on Amazon (which I found in like new condition)

Or I've looked at a Nikon D80 which is much older but could still get the job done for about 350

Currently I have enough money to buy the D80 and i'm so anxious to start taking pictures. I'm not sure if I should buy the Nikon D80 or just save a little more to get the canon rebel.

Also: I'm am a Videographer and want to do small projects with the canon rebel t3i, which I would not be able to do with the Nikon d80. But once I get a camera I can start advertising myself to others and make money from taking pictures and save to buy canon rebel t3i

Upgrade My Nikon DSLR Camera or Lenses?

I currently own a Nikon 3200 24.2 MP DSLR with the two kit lenses, 18-55 and 55-200.
For the past year or so I've been research upgrading. Perhaps it goes without saying but what I want really to see is sharper images and better performance in low light (i.e. Shooting a wedding inside a church with no flash).
There doesn't seem to be a clear answer out there as to whether it's a better idea to upgrade the camera body or lenses, so I'm interested in your opinion/experience.

A little more info:
I do not want to spend more than $1200 on a camera body at this point. (and yes I will be looking on Ebay) At first I thought that a newer body would be the answer, but then I saw that many of the newer ones in my price range have the same 24 MP as mine does, which I think means the image quality won't be different than what mine can do.
Lenses I have been looking into include the 35 mm, the 50 mm, and the 85 mm.

Please let me know what you recommend, I look forward to suggestions and advice!

What are some great camcorders to pair with a Nikon D3200?

My main skill is videography and I have a Nikon D3200 which has worked well for me as far as taking pictures and nicer quality video. I working toward doing media professionally, and I'm leaning toward getting a better camcorder to use with my SLR.

What I'm looking and hoping for is a camcorder that takes really fine video and pictures, such that when I start a shoot with my Nikon and finish with the camcorder and later video edit and put the two sources together, the camcorder footage is great enough to be almost indistinguishable from the footage shot by the SLR.

I have an older SONY camcorder that I use right now, but I'm hoping for a better camcorder quality wise and wifi would be great also.

Any suggestions on a great camcorder to pair with the Nikon 3200?

Thinking about switching to Canon DSLR… Should I?

Hi everyone,

So because of costs, I've been talked out of getting a full-frame (guess, I'll just save up over the next few years).

But, I feel like crossing the road over to Canon… Any thoughts?

I own a Nikon D5200 with a the 35mm f1.8 Nikkor lens and the Tokina 11-16mm DX II AF lens. I love my D5200, but after seeing Canon cameras in action, I kind of want to switch.

I find the tiny viewfinder on my D5200 annoying (not sure the Canon crop-sensor viewfinders are any better) and the thing is pretty loud. I do a lot of indoor photography at church, so it's bothersome when I try to take a picture of someone praying (more of a "clunk" thank a "snap"). I also find something about Canon image processing to be more aesthetically pleasing, whereas I appreciate the technical specs of my Nikon and the consistency in metering.

Should I sell my stuff and get a Canon 60D? If I do, what lenses would I need to buy to get a similar setup to my current one?

Sample of my work:

How to choose my first 50mm lens?

I have my canon eos camera and been using kit lens which is obviously not very good so I decided to buy some affordable 50mm lens.

I'm quite tight on a budget ($100) so I choose between canon EF 50 1.8 and cheaper lenses but with 1.4 aperture like Fujinon, Yashica, Takumar, Pentax though most of them should be used with an adapter which I'll also have to buy.

My questions:

2. What's the best 50mm lens I can have for my money right now?

What lens should I choice?

I have an Nikon D800. Even though It's a professional camera, I am novice.
Besides, I have 3 lenses which are 24mm-70mm F/2.8, 70mm-200mm F/2.8 and 35mm F/1.4.

I enjoy large aperture since it could blur background. Although 35mm F/1,4 is professional which I learned from its terrible price, its blurred effect is not what I want.

So which lens should I choose?

ZEISS 50mm F/1.4?
SIGMA 50mm F/1,4?

Vertical Grips for the Nikon D300?

S, i'm looking to buy a vertical grip for my D300, as it stands, my options are limited (lets just say i can't get the Nikon MB D10),

so I'm left with

Meike
DSTE
(These are the only two "branded" third party grips i can find in the UK),
Pixel
Vivitar

or

Hahnel (Though if i had to out of Nikon or Hahnel, i'd get a second hand Nikon).

My problem is i heard the Meike is good, BUT, problems occur after about 6 months (go figure, it's the lowest knockoff), and the DSTE just looks to be the same but different name, i can get these for about 35 GBP.

Now, i heard some good thing about the "Pixel D10", which i can get from the US for about 60 GBP.
And i also heard some good things about the "Vivitar MB D10", which i can also get from the US for the same price.

But as far as my knowledge goes, that's it. Are the Pixel or Vivitar worth that bit extra? Obviously, the grip lasting a while is important, but the feel is important to me too? Any help?! Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Which camera and which lens?! Help?!

Hey there!
My interest in photography is at its peak and i want to develop it! Its my passion.
Buying which camera, has been the trivia given the number of options available in the market today!
Ive been researching and have narrowed down to a few cameras (body only) :
a.Canon EOS 70D
b.Canon EOS 60D
c.Canon EOS 7D
d.Canon EOS 5D (Mark 2)
I've learnt that the 70D happens to be the best of my options, given the quality,ISO, MPs and the cost.
But i'm not very sure if im making the right choice, choosing this camera. So is it worth the buying and the cost for an amateur photographer like me?

Also, I'd like some help with the lenses:
18-135 IS LENS or 28-105 L SERIES LENS or 24-105 L SERIES LENS?
Also… Do they fit with my options of cameras?

I'm really in a dilemma, unable able to decide which camera and lens to buy! So help, maybe?

PS. I'm a CANON supporter in and out. So Nikon lovers, don't start off with the 'hate' debate here or whatever and try to help instead please!

Photographing the milky way?

I'm currently at the beach in a place where there is almost no light pollution from any large towns… There is a city about 20 miles away or maybe even further but it's across a massive expanse of water and the light can only be seen on the very edge of the horizon. Not over the ocean.

I figured that if people are able to take milky way photos with more light pollution than I have around here… I should surely be able to get a pretty decent photo all the way out here!

I read a pretty simple step by step thing and tried out all of the settings but they didn't really work out for me.

In one of my photos I got SOME stars but they only showed up after raising the exposure in my photo editing program as high as possible and it looked like crap.

I have a Nikon D3100. I was using a Nikkor 18-55 lens which is not the same thing that the person who wrote the instructional piece was using… So obviously it would require different settings but I figured that I should try his out first and adjust from there.

What settings (shutter speed, aperture, etc) should I use to get a really nice photo of the milky way?

Tips for outdoor family portraits?

Hi,
So in the future I am interested in taking pictures for families, or photo shoots for people outdoors. I need some starter tips and info. I have a Nikon d3200 (I realize this has a cropped sensor) I also own a 18-200mm lens but based on research I have done, I think the 50mm f/1.8 lens would be much sharper and produce better looking pictures.

Any tips or heads ups to do with lenses, lighting, or starting up a small side job business for this? Thanks!

*Also, I am still a high school student so I am saving for university so I don't want to spend lots of money of fancy equipment.

Help importing pictures on computer?

Okay, so I have a Nikon D3200 camera, with a 32GB SD card. Every time I plug the card into the memory card slot on the side of the computer, a dialogue box pops up asking me options to import pictures. I follow the common motions, tag the pictures, etc. Have done so over 30 times, importing a little under 3,000 pictures in total. However, the other day, I plugged the SD card into the computer and accidentally closed the dialogue box. I cannot get it to come back. I have taken the card out, wiped off the connection points, and done so to those in the card slot in the computer. I have turned the computer off and back on. I plugged it into a friend's computer, the dialogue box came up, and I could import them. Can somebody help me figure out why this box wont come up anymore? My computer doesn't even recognize that the SD card is plugged in anymore. No it has not been dropped or damaged. It all simply stems from me accidentally closing the box out. I could really appreciate the help. I am bad with computers, and absolutely cannot figure it out on my own. I have comsulted Windows help, and it gave me absolutely no solutions. I have 300 photos from a recent grad party that NEED to be dumped onto MY computer asap. Please help
Added (1). Is it possible the card was denied access in security settings somehow when I closed out the dialogue box? If so, how would I go about resetting this (possibly restoring defaults or allowing the card access)?

Beginner in photography! Camera help?!

So I really want to start doing photography but i don't have a camera that takes good pictures, I just have a rubbish digital camera. I was thinking of getting a DLSR camera preferable by canon or Nikon. I was looking into getting the:

-CANON EOS 1200D
-CANON T3i Rebel/ 600D
-NIKON D3200

I'm completely new to this and have no idea which camera would be good to get so that i can take pictures for fun because I am just an amateur right now and i don't really need a professional camera right now.

Any suggestions?

Why Nikon AF 50MM 1.8D Lens dose not work with D70?

I bought an older Nikon Camera D70 and it came with 18-70MM lens as well as a Nikon AF 50MM 1.8D lens. But, the 50MM did take photos only with f/22 and NOT with other larger apertures!
Please advise! Thank you.

How to permanently calibrate Nikon lens?

There's always an option to send it to Nikon (or deal with local professional shops), but I'd like to know if I can resolve it myself. Plus, who knows - same issue might come up in the future with other lenses…

Recently got myself a used 18-105mm VR lens, which seemed to be somewhat soft. After shooting a focus chart, it became clear that lens front-focuses. I used D7100 to calibrate focus to -5, and now the lens seems to work properly. The problem is - I bought this lens to use with D3200, which doesn't seem to have AF fine-tune (at least I haven't found that option, after digging through the menus and checking online).
So, lens works fine with one body, but not with the one I need. Question is - is it possible (and how?) to somehow save the calibration I did on D7100 to the lens, so that it's permanently stored and applied to any body I use the lens on?

Really, not looking for suggestions to take to be serviced, unless you know for a fact that it's the only possible resolution. Also not planning to replace this lens with a different lens (either because you think this lens sucks, or because you have something that works better for you).

Are cameras on eBay fake, Nikon D3200?

I'm worried for a few reasons, I think I'm over worrying like I always do.

1) If the Nikon D3200 has manufacturer warranty in the US, it has to be real right? Fakes cannot have warranty. Or can people put fake parts inside and have the code on it?

2) He has 98.8% positive feedback and I've checked and people have written positive things about the camera.

3) How does he get these cameras? Is how he gets it risky? Or is there a LEGAL way for him to sell these cameras?

4) He does not accept returns, but most, I think all don't accept returns and I'm covered by Ebay Money Back Guarantee.

I usually worry over things like this a lot so if you can help me out that would be great.

Which lens would you use?

So, doing some friends a favour and photographing their wedding for them. I did explain that I'm not a pro and my gear is mediocre at best, tried to get them to pay for someone else but they've convinced me they'd rather have me do it. I'm crapping myself to be honest as I've only seen photos of the venue (small room with room for less than 60) but won't be able to see the room in the flesh until the day due to how far away it is. I realise I'm in over my head, but they're not being too demanding and insist "it's no big deal". I want to give them great pics that'll contribute to their own memories, I know it's not going to be easy.

I have 2 lenses, a kit camera 18-105 nikon DX 5.6g, and a 35mm prime 1.8.

Which lenses should I use during the ceremony? The zoom would be nice for choosing my focal length but isn't the best quality. The 35mm will be better quality but I'm worried it might distort the image and I can't zoom. I have no friends with lenses to lend me, nor can I afford to rent or buy a new lens

Perhaps I should use the 35mm for the after party and the zoom for the ceremony.

Any help would be welcome.

Ebay buyer opened case for a 2 year guarantee sticker on front of camera box?

saying they cant activate it because it runs out after 30 days. I didn't state in the description about the sticker and have no idea about it. I sold the item as new other - its in excellent condition but has been opened. No warranty has been activated on the camera. They then said they called Nikon and told them the camera takes long time to focus but the superzoom bridge cameras like p600 take ages to focus anyway at long focal lengths. They said it must be faulty so they are using it against me in a case. What do i do?

How important are megapixels in a DSLR when choosing to buy?

I did a lot of research on cameras and went to lots of stores to choose the right one to buy but I still can't decide.Obviously I'm a beginner so I want to know how important the difference between megapixels in a camera is. My top choices are the Nikon d3200 and the Canon 600d.Nikon has more megapixels(around six more) but the Canon has better color depth while shooting and also a flip-out lcd screen which i believe is really helpful.Of course the lens is important and the person behind the camera to make a good photo. I would be really grateful if you could help me to choose and explain it to me. Thank you in advance!

How to know if this camera is not fake on eBay?

I want to buy a Nikon D3200 on eBay. I messaged the seller since his item was on tuition to see if he had any more and he said he did and I can buy it. He said that we can do it by PayPal, outside of eBay. I said can you make it an eBay listing and he said after this listing is done since eBay lets him only put one listing time by time.

I am looking through and the camera says Country / Region of Manufacture: United States. (Aren't nikons made in Thailand or he did not know and guessed US?)

Second, it says that the camera has manufacture warranty. So, is that a safe bet? Or can people just stick some serial code or something?

From 414 transactions, he has 98.8% positive feedback. He has been rated negative once from the person saying do not buy from this person but maybe that guy was easily ticked off.

What do you think?

DX lens effective focal length?

After understanding the difference between FX and DX and their pro's and con's now there's a new growing perplexity. What would be the focal length if a Nikon DX format 35mm prime is used with Nikon d7100. Will the focal length be the same 35mm or the added crop factor of 1.5x would covert it to a 52.5mm. Is the Nikon D3200 still a good DSLR?

Im looking to get my first DSLR. I was looking at the Nikon D3200 as it is good for both pictures and 1080p videos. I only really looked at Canon and Nikon as there probably the most well known for DLSR. The 600D doesn't have auto focus, I think the D3200 would be the best choice for me. The only thing that put me off it is the fact the it is a few years old. Is it still a good pick? Or is there something else in that €400- €500 price bracket that i have just not come across yet?

Is the sensor on DSLR scratched?

Please be mature on this post! Ok, so, I'm on vacation and I was taking some very good landscape photos. Then all of a sudden I see a spec in the sky that shouldn't be there. I cleaned the lens to make sure that wasn't the problem then I checked again, still there. I figured it was on the sensor. I have a dslr cleaning kit with the rocket blower. I used that to see if the spec could be removed that way. Nope, and it seemed like it got worse. Before I used the blower it was one somewhat dark spec, afterwards, it looked like the spec split in two and there was a slight smear. So I took it a local camera shop. The salesperson told me the sensor was scratched and needed to be sent to Nikon for repair. I looked at the photos he took and you can barely see the specs. Did he fix it or what? I took it to another camera shop for a second opinion and he told me that the sensor is just dusty. Should I be worried?

Which of these camera deals are better?

Hi, im NEW to DSLR and I need some advice.

I am planning on using the camera for landscape shots, semi close shots (2ft in front of me) and also Wildlife shots. In my mind (correct me if im wrong) I'd need a telescopic lens, (56-200ish) and standard (18-100ishmm).
My budget is £420 (£450 at a push)

I have set my mind of a D3200 which is £250 body and £350 lens kit. Which of these would be best suited for me in the long run…

1: This was my original plan; Buy a body for £250 then get this lens http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-18-105-Lens-Nikkor-18-105mm-DX-ED-AF-S-VR-New-IN-UK-3-YEAR-WARRANTY-/151322702506?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item233b8932aa . This would give me a good starting point to learn the camera with a good lens. After a few months I would then buy a telescopic lens (56-200ish).

2:I went onto Jessops website and saw this deal. http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/nikon/d3200-18-55mm-vr-lens-tamron-70-300mm-lens-89152/show.html The only problem is from what I see is they are both kit lens and not that amazing which is represented in the price. My friend who knows a tiny bit about cameras said Option 1 would be the best as you will end up with two good lens for around £550 (Body+Standard+telescopic) compared to paying £400 for two semi decent lens. And then having to pay £300 ish for better lens in the near future.

Would you say that my friend is right and Option two is a point pointless?
Added (1). Also, is that a good price for that lens? Its the cheapest I can find and it looks like a very good seller with a v.high rating.

Also, sorry for typos. I am typing on my friends tablet. I hate the things hehe.
Added (2). *face palm* Nvm, I've just found that 'telescopic' lens review… And turns out its a macro lens. As i said.I'm a n00b lol
Added (3). Thanks for replying Andrew. When you say "Both lens" Do you mean the one in option 1 or the two in option 2?

How to convert large.NEF pictures to.JPEG on a Macbook Air?

Dear readers and potential helpers:)

Recently my art-student friend had made some pictures of me for a school project. She made these pictures with a Nikon of her uncle, since her own Nikon broke a few days before.
The pictures she made are truly gorgeous, and I would like to have them for myself in a.jpeg format. However, the Nikon made all pictures with a.NEF format.
I have tried to just change the extension from.nef to.jpeg, but then the pictures become Really small and they lose all their quality!

Since there are about 350 pictures, I was wondering if someone has a good solution for converting a large amount of pictures from NEF to JPEG without losing the quality.

I have a Macbook Air by the way.

Thank you!

Is the Canon Rebel T5i a good buy?

I have been researching this camera a lot and there is a lot of mixed reviews about it but the general conclusion seems to be that it is a very good entry level dslr. I am just getting serious in photography and I would like to buy a camera that I can use to minor or major in photography. I want to buy a good body at the moment but put a lot more money into the lenses. The t5i seems like a very good body to start out and is something that could last quite a while before upgrading. I have also been looking at the d5300. A lot of people say that the d5300 takes better images but the t5i images look just as good if not better to me most of the time. Do you think getting this camera is a smart decision? Any recommendations? I have looked at the mirorless cameras and I am not a big fan of the viewfinder, it makes me kind of sick. People have also recommended Pentax but I have always been a big Canon and Nikon fan. Please don't be mean. I am just genuinely curious, and would love some good advice. Thank you!

What should I do for my first youtube video?

So I'm a sophomore girl in high school and I've wanted to make youtube videos for a really long time, and now that I have a decent camera (Nikon D5100), I'm determined to start my channel. However, I have no clue where to start.

I want my channel to mainly be vloggy type videos as well as videos stating my opinion on certain topics/movies/books/internet stuff, etc. I've recorded so many introductory videos just introducing myself but I look so awkward in all of them and I don't know what to say about myself to make a viewer come back to see more.

I would love to make an opinionated video as my first video, but I'm scared that it'll seem like I'm hating on whatever topic I talk about and it won't make people subscribe and continue watching my content. Any suggestions?

Is the Nikon d5300 hard to understand?

I have always loved photography but am just starting to really get into it and will soon be purchasing a dslr. The two main cameras I have been considering are the Nikon d5300 and the Canon t5i. It seems like the majority of reviews slightly recommend the Nikon over the Canon. However, one of the big things is that the Canon is much easier to learn on and to handle for more of a beginner. My question is if the Nikon is that hard to learn on? If I bought a manual that teaches me how to use it will it be that hard to use and to learn on? Also, if anyone has any personal recommendations between these two cameras or other similar ones please let me know as well. Thank you!

Do lens make a big difference in photography?

I have a Nikon D3200 with standard 18-55mm lens. I've read you can take pro photos with any camera, you just have to know how to use it, but the lens can affect quality. So, can you take professional looking shots with standard lenses? And what do you think of my pic? Thanks.

Some good budget Nikon Lenses?

I bought a D5200 that came with the basic 18-55mm. I am looking for something to shoot landscape and another one for wedding pictures. I was looking at the 55-200mm and the 18-200mm VRII but the VRII is so expensive! Any recommendation on a cheap lens?

Advice on purchasing a new DSLR?

Hi, I have finally saved enough money up to purchase my first DSLR. I will be using this DSLR mainly for filmmaking and not so much photography. The only features I really need are having good video quality and having an articulating screen. The camera that has caught my attention the most is the Nikon D5300 and almost bought it a while ago. However, I held myself back as I was still unsure aboout purchasing the camera as I was hoping if anyone knew if there is a newer or better camera I should look at or wait for. My budget is basically $1k but I do not want to spend all of it on just a camera but I would consider it if the camera is really something worth getting. Thanks.

DSLR Photography: Expensive DSLRs vs CHEAP?

I recently picked up my first DSLR. I began shooting car photos with a Sony Cybershot 20.1 MP point and shoot. I needed a DSLR to improve my photography. So I went with a Nikon D3200. This camera is about 500 bucks with a 18-55 VR lens. I have been already shooting in manual mode and getting the hang of exposure.

To me, the sole purpose of buying a camera is to achieve the BEST quality possible. Isnt that what DSLRs are about? Getting the most crystal clear photo possible. With perfect exposure and colors etc…

I am browsing through many car photos on Flickr tonight and I see so many semi profesional photographers shooting great photos with $1500-2000+ cameras. I ask myself why? It may seem like a very stupid, naive question to most. But photo quality can only get So good before its impossible to get any better. With my Nikon D3200, with better lenses, I know i can achieve the EXACT same quality and image as a camera that costs 3x mine does.

I understand more advanced photographers need FASTER cameras to increase efficiency (faster SS, more features). I realize that top of the line cameras can shoot photos at great shutter speeds and can shoot 50 photos a second, etc. But i feel like a lot of money is wasted for some photographers when they can buy a great lens and slam it on an entry level DSLR like mine, and achieve the same quality.

I'm not saying I am right. I am just telling you my thoughts. And was curious to see what others have to say. Thanks!

Using a battery grip without battery in it?

This is something I really need to know before I rush out and buy me a Nikon D610 and a Pico battery grip!
I want a battery grip because the Nikon body is not big enough for my hands.
Now, please clarify, will the battery that is inside the Nikon body be enough, or is it compulsory for me to use battery, extra battery, inside the Pico battery grip to enable it?

I do not think I might ever use the portrait orientation.
I just need the grip to make the Nikon body look and feel bigger for a better hold.
So, will everything be ok if I am on just one Nikon body battery?
Your help is much appreciated.

I am from India

Hey, i am looking for an entry level Dsl-r camera. I did my research and came down to these two cameras

How to set the timer on a Nikon D60?

Before you say it, I did a search and found the following answer from six years ago, which doesn't work:

"Press menu
use the multi selelctor to get to teh custom shooting menu it will look like pencil icon
press the multiseelector right
use the down mulyiselector to get to menu custon settings 11
press OK or the right selector again
select self timer
press OK

Now the fn button is set to the self timer, you press the fn button and it will activate it then press the shutter release to activate it "

I have done all of this. I press "Fn" and it says "Self-timer" on the display screen. I press the shutter button, and it doesn't do anything. There is no countdown, there is nothing on the display to indicate that it might or might not be doing anything.

Twice, out of about 20 tries, it did actually work. Naturally it never worked when I actually had my shot set up, and most of the time it never worked when I was just testing it either.

What's the magic formula that makes it work?

Canon 70D for first camera?

Today I bought Canon 70D camera from Costco, and it came in a bundle for approx. $1400 - camera, 32 GB Class 10 SD card, case, 2 lenses, charger, HDMI to mini HDMI cable and a white cable and a couple other things.

I talked to many best buy employees about canon vs nikon and they said it depends, and i was asking in filming/noob professional photography. They said Canon is more reliable.

Is this true? I've been using Nikon my whole life cause it's more user-friendly, so it's my first time owning a Canon.

… I'm in a film course this summer so when I enter college I'll have an understanding of the film industry, but I want to take very good pictures during events, so this camera seems it's going to be good.

Battery life and camera age?

Just been wondering about something battery related.

Obviously, batteries lose power with age and become less effective. And given that I use, among others, a Sigma DP3 Merrill, I'm very familiar with poor battery life. I have four batteries in total, and now two of them (the original ones) are literally useless. They can't hold a charge, and the two which can will give me maybe 30 or 40 shots before packing it in. Luckily they're small and cheap to replace.

What I was curious about is whether there are other factors, like the connectors (if that's the word), or something else within the electronics, which also affect battery life.

I was checking out (with half a mind to buy; it was an extremely good deal) a very well used Nikon D3 last week, and I happened to notice that the battery life indicator was on "3", i.e. "pretty well used, gonna be time to replace it soon"). I'm guessing that it was the original battery.

Assuming I were to put a brand new battery in it, and run it through a few cycles, would it still provide the number of shots that it would have in a brand new D3 from 2007 (which, I believe, was hundreds and hundreds, even into the thousands, on a single charge)? Or will the age of the camera effect the performance of even a new battery?

I know some of you guys and girls still use D3s and cameras of that age - any experiences? Thanks in advance.

Would you buy a second hand DSLR camera/lens?

Im on a budget of £500 (£350-400 for the camera and £100 for a lens) and want to get as much as I can for my money.
Would you ever/have you ever bought a refurbished camera/second hand camera/Second hand lens?
If so. Where would you buy one from? Here's a list of popular second hand websites. Have any of you used these?

1:E-bay - Through a shop.
2:Amazon - Through amazon or a shop
3:CEX/Cash converters - My least fave option.

Any views would be appreciated.
Added (1). Spookily, you both have mentioned two cameras I am trying to choose between; the D5100 and D3200.
I am moving up from a VERY limited Bridge camera.(L120) which had minimal controls.
When i say "get as much as I can" i mean for e.g If i buy a d3200 for £350 that leaves me £150 for extras like lens, battery etc. If I bought a second hand D3200 for £250. That then gives me £250 for the extras and if theres nothing wrong with buying second hand. Why not?! Hehe:)
Added (2). Side question: I am torn between D5100 and the D3200. Most comparisons say the D3200 is better for beginners and has the potential to take better photos over the D5100. Anybody know if this is true? The D5100 is around an extra £30.

Can bright lights during night photography damage camera sensors?

So I've read in places the only way you can really damage your camera's sensor is from overheating the sensor. Such heat would only come from doing a long exposure shot of a really bright object (ie. The sun).

However, I have been trying to look at some different things with night photography and videography.

If when taking a star-trail picture a bright light flashes into the camera lens, the shot will probably be ruined, but will there be any internal damage? How much tolerance does a camera have for these things?

Additionally, is the effect on the camera different when shooting video vs. Extended exposure pictures?

If you get high-beamed at night while driving you go blind for a few seconds, but are soon fine again; is this true in cameras?

If this question can not be answered to be "In general," I have a Nikon D70 for night pictures, and for night video I have the Nikon D7000. 10 years separate these models, has technology to prevent this advanced as TVs have with burn-ins?

Thanks!

I just bought a used Nikon d3200 on Amazon, but realize that I have old Pentax lenses? - 1

Hi, I bought a Nikon d3200 camera on Amazon (my first DSLR) and it has already shipped. I could return it when it arrived.

My mother used to take photos with an old Pentax film camera and I found her old lenses. Would these lenses work with the Pentax K-500? Is it worth returning the D3200 because I found these lenses (I don't want to return the D3200 just because the Pentax is a better camera, only if the lenses will save me hundreds of dollars). I have no idea if the lenses work okay or not. One sounds like it has sand in it and has a hard time being twisted. Did I come across a box of junk box lenses or a gold mine of lenses? Thanks!

Upgrading from a Canon EOS 40D: What Camera to Buy?

As the title suggests I am looking to upgrade my Canon 450D and I am undecided, since there are a few options. Yes, I know a better body doesn't mean better images, but there are a few things I am wanting that I can't get with my current camera: higher ISO settings (mine maxes out at 1,600 and the noise is really, really bad.), better noise performance, better quality and a higher res image, and the tilty-flippy screen is really enticing for when I want to take a shot at an awkward angle or for when I am doing street photography and I don't want my subject knowing I a photographing them.

The 60D looks good because of the screen.

The Nikon D3300 looks like it handles noise really well and has great image quality, even though it is an entry-level offering. Would it be worth swapping brands just for this? I have already bought Canon's "nifty fifty" and have a cheap (well, it was about £70-80 used, so I'm not sure how much it is new) 70-300mm telephoto lens.

I'm also in debate between the 7D and have heard the 550D is quite good for its price.

Do you have recommendations? Which would you buy and why?

DSLR in and out of humidity?

I plan on taking pictures with my DSLR (Nikon d 3200) in a high humidity environment.

I've done this before and put the camera in a zip lock bag and let it change temperatures so it won't fog up.

But my problem is that I want to take pictures at and outdoor shopping mall, in Florida. So the stores are very cold, and outside is very humid and I'll be moving in and out of stores pretty often. How would I go about doing this so my camera doesn't fog. I normally put it in the ziplock bag, but that takes 30min to 1hr to warm up so it won't fog, and I'll be moving in and out of stores constantly. What should I do?
