Photography ideas - Is a photo-shoot at the time of an aurora a good idea?

The aurora aka northern lights is perhaps one of the most beautiful things ever. I have always wanted to see one, though the location of my country has never permitted me to see one. However, I was wondering, when I go to Norway or Finland, would it be a good idea to click some pics of mine with the aurora in the background?

Is there any photographer here who can give me a good idea about this? What kind of a camera should be used? Since it should be able to capture the aurora very well, with good clarity and sharpness I know that a very good camera should be used.

Also by what time of the year does the aurora appear? I am sorry I have no clue about it because I haven't seen or known about them.

Would it be dangerous to stay on the road/ground of wherever, when there is an aurora?

Please help. Thanks x

P.S. For any one of you who does not know what an aurora is, here's a picture and some information about it.

Autofocus on Nikkor 55-200mm not working?

Is there any way I can fix this myself? If not does anyone know about how much Nikon charges to fix it? Thanks!

How to find out where my camera uploaded its pictures?

I have a Nikon L120 that I just uploaded all the pictures from. However, the little window that pops up that gives you options to look at, upload, or manage media on my device, in addition to changing import settings, does not give me the option to see where it puts my photos after uploading. How do I find this out?

Nikkor 18-200mm or Sigma 18-250mm?

I'm going to be using this lens on my Nikon d3200 for travel and general all around shots. Right now I can get the Nikkor 18-200mm for $350 (slightly used, very good condition) and the Sigma 18-250mm for $350 (new). I have used the Nikkor 18-200mm a few times and generally like it except the fact it is a little on the heavy size and like other lenses it has barrel creep (which I don't mind too much). I haven't used the Sigma 18-250mm so I can't say anything for that one. Which one would you purchase and why (please list some pros and cons) thanks!
