D7000 Focus Problem?

Just grabbed a Nikon D7000 a few days ago and didn't really use it until I grabbed a new lens (85MM 1.8 afs) quality is great. However I ALWAYS have to manually focus, its as if the AF doesn't work. I tried switching the dial that says "AF M" and holding the button in to switch to AF-Single, but everytime I hold the button down, no options come up. I hold it and don't see any options anywhere to switch between AF-S, AF-A or AF-C. Please help.

Where to get old Nikon serviced?
Added (1). I have an old Nikon F2 that I haven't used in years. I am seeing more people use film again and am interested in shooting with it. Is there someplace you'd recommend to take it for service? It's been sitting for quite some time so I imagine it needs a good once over. I don't think anything's wrong with it but it probably needs to be cleaned.

Canon, Nikon, or Sony?

So I've been shooting with an original Canon 5D for the past year now and am looking at upgrading. Currently only have a 50mm 1.8 and an 85mm 1.8 and one flash unit.
Basically I'm looking at some other systems as well as Canon for an upgrade and it's come down to either the Canon 6D, 7D MKII, Sony A7, or the Nikon D610.

I mainly shoot portraits, weddings, and architecture based street photography, so detail tends to trump outright performance. At this point I'm not too heavily invested in Canon so a switch (if worth it) would be doable.

Thanks!

Flash compensation not working?

I m using a Nikon D100 and the pop up flash (yes I m aware I should get a separate flash for the hot shoe) and my camera is on manual. Any suggestions?

How does the Canon 5d full frame CLASSIC perform in low light situations?

I am purchasing a used Canon 5d classic and I'm not sure how it will perform in low light. Right now i am using the Nikon d60 right now and it performs really horribly in low light. Even inside, i really have to push up my ISO to the highest i can (with minimal noise of course) and i have to have a Really slow shutter speed. Really slow. And my f stop is really low. DSLR won't focus with refractor telescope?

I have a Nikon D5200 with the appropriate T-ring and adapter for my Celestron 90EQ refractor. I was looking at the moon through the scope with one of the eye pieces and everything was perfect. Took out the eye piece and put my camera set up in and all was extremely blurry. I went through the full range of motion with the focus nobs on the scope and it never came in to focus. It seems like the further in I turned the nobs the smaller and more clear the image got but it was still way out of focus. Is there something I'm missing or not doing right? My Nikon does not have an internal focus motor so all focusing must done via the lens, in this case my scope. What else do I need? Thank you.

New camera, old lens?

I just bought a Nikon D750, my first fx camera, I have a 24 to 70 lens already but now I need a zoom. I've been set on the 70 to 200 f4 because the 2.8 is out of my budget at this point.

A friend suggested the older 80 to 200 2.8, it's older (came out in the 90's ) but still gets excellent reviews

Fun inexpensive camera accessories?

Hi ya'll

I have been asked to think of a sub £20 gift and I was thinking some camera accessory. I like film photography and I use Nikon (for their interchangeability).

So I'm looking for something for an F, F2, F3 or F4. If film camera accessories are not an option, something for a D200 or D300 would also work.

I'd like to note that I'm not even sure if it's possible to come up with anything for this price but thought I may as well ask. I was thinking something like a remote release or focusing screen etc.

Thanks for any suggestions:)

Budget ane cuma dibawah 6 juta. Kalo DSLR apa yg bagus, kalo mirrorless apa yg bagus? Saran yg saya dapat itu Canon T5i, Canon T5, Nikon D3300, dan Sony Alpha A5100? Gimana saran agan sekalian? Atau ada pendapat lain? Thank you.

Thinking of upgrading from a Nikon D5100 to a Panasonic GH4?

Would this be a good laptop for my needs? (HP Pavilion 15-ab028na)?

My current laptop is semi-old and slow, with pretty crappy specs (I can safely say this even as a person that's not too knowledgeable about computer specs:P).

I want to get a new one and I've been looking around a little bit. The HP Pavilion 15-ab028na caught my eye.

I use my computer for browsing the internet, editing photos and watching shows/movies and listening to music.

I'm mostly looking for a better, faster laptop, that can handle many tabs and applications being open at the same time without freezing, for me to be able to go about my "normal" use of the laptop without having to wait for the applications to start working again.

I'm also very interested in photography (I have a Nikon D7100) and blogging and I hope to start working from home (part/full time) in the future. It's still something I'm figuring out how to go about and I'm really not sure what the future will hold for me, but I know that it's an important goal for me, so I'd like to keep that in mind when deciding on a laptop. I'm not that experienced in photo editing, but it's something I'm interested in learning, so I'd like for the laptop to be able to handle the use of Photoshop.

I'm basically looking for a good laptop that's an upgrade from what I have at the moment, that would be good for the beginning stages of when I get more into photography/photo editing. It would be a stepping stone as I'd buy something more professional once the need arises. My price range for now is about 900 euros.

Nikon D3300 Autofocus Light problem?

When in single point AF mode, besides the selected AF point, some of the surrounding AF points also gets very slightly illuminated (as if there is some leakage from the main AF point). The brightness is much less than the main AF point. I tried various modes and subjects, turning off and on the camera but the problem persists.

Is this normal? Shall I be concerned and take it to service center?

How to make my D3100's shutter faster?

I own a Nikon D3100 camera. The problem is that when I go to take pictures there is this weird delay with the shutter. It focuses, closes and then a few seconds later the picture appears on the screen. This still happens even when the shutter speed is increased to the maximum. I have seen others with the same camera point it at the subject they are shooting and there is no delay what so ever with the shutter. It closes instantly and that's it. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I haven't been able to use the camera for some time now because of this issue. Thanks

Nikon mount 70-200/80-200 shootout?

I'm looking for a fast telephoto lens for sports/candid shots.

Obviously, the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 is the most optically superior (although it has an older VR system). I know that it has issues when focusing at close objects (at 200mm it is actually close to 140mm when focused close).

Another choice is the Nikon 70-200 f4, which is lighter and cheaper, but still over a grand. Although it has an excellent VR system (4 stops), it has a smaller aperture which cannot freeze motion as well as an f2.8 aperture can.

I have also ruled out the sigma 70-200 and looked at the Tamron 70-200. I have read positive reviews from it. However, I am still a bit skeptical of third party lenses but I am still considering the tamron.

The last choice that I have is the 80-200 Nikon f2.8 which has no VR and has slightly inferior optics as well as slower AF and has no weather sealing.

I'm torn on which one to choose! Please be aware that I am on a tight budget and own a crop body as well as a full frame.

Thanks

35mm vs 50mm mounted on a D3200?

Taller speedlight the better?

The Nikon SB-900 and 910 are taller than the SB-700 which would reduce the possibility of getting red-eye because it's farther from the camera. Does that only matter if you have a big lens? If you shoot with a short lens it will never block the flash. Now… Which lenses with the hood on are too big to use with a SB-700? The biggest lens I have right now is the 17-55mm 2.8 DX. Will it be fine with the SB-700 with a lens hood? But what if I plan on having a 70-200mm? Is the 700 tall enough for that?

I am an ameteur bird photographer and am planning to buy the nikon d7200 for birding. But im stuck on which lens to buy. Ive got 3 options.

The reason for the confusion is i dont know which one will give me the best results… If you r suggesting option 2 or 3 please tell which teleconverter or spotting scope i should use? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Charge Nikon D3200 Batteries without taking them out?

Hey. I am trying to make a Camera rig that charges all accessories at once with one plug-in. II have a battery grip and was wondering if there is any way to charge my batteries without taking them out and putting them in a charger. Is that even possible? Thanks!

P.S I do NOT want A/C batteries, they need to still be able to charge and hold power.

Any other scopes in this price range? Should I go better?

So I'm looking around for a scope for my new AR build. I'd say I'll be spending $500+ on the scope at least; probably won't have enough up for it until March of next year since I'm getting irons first. And I'm not sure about the mount I should use. But is a $500 scope good enough on a $1,500 rifle. Some are under the impression I should buy a scope that costs at least $1,500 if not $2,000. But I don't make $250,000 to $1,000,000 a year like they do.

I've been looking at the Leupold Mark AR MOD 1 6-18x 40mm rifle scope with the mil-dot. Granted I am looking at a couple others such as the Nikon M-223 4-16x 42mm but the Leupold stands out the most in my budget range. Wondering if it's any good since it is right at my pricerange. I doubt I'll be taking it out to 800 yards but is that enough or should I budget up to 1k for a scope? Am I going too cheap?

Looking for new Nikon DSLR?

Hi… I've been a professional photographer for about five years now and have been looking into a new camera. My budget for both the camera and lens is under 1600$ or so… I used to practice macro but now am looking to get into portraits… My question is what would be a good nikon dslr that is not expensive as the D4 but still offers some of the same professional perks and image quality of it?
also would sticking with the lens it come with be a good idea… Or should i invest in a certain lens for portraits… Thanks.

Why isn't my Nikon D3200 display not changing in manual?

My camera recently had a circuit problem (and wouldn't turn on) and today I just got it back from being repaired. It works as good as new - except one thing: on live view, on manual, the screen doesn't preview exactly what the photo should turn out as. It automatically adjusts the preview as if it were on automatic, instead of showing what my settings are. It worked fine before it had the problem I mentioned.
Does anyone know what the matter is?

Upgrading from really old DSLR Camera to a Mirrorless, but need advice?

So I guess I am what you would call an amateur photographer. I've had a Canon Rebel XTI DLSR for years now w/ the kit lense it came with. But I am thinking its about time for an upgrade to a newer camera.
I want to be able to be more advanced level than a regular point and shoot, but also can take video which could be used to create vlogs, and be small enough for travel. I want something to use for underwater photos so was considering looking into waterproof housing. Hoping to keep the budget under/around $800 lens included.

I came across the Sony A6000 and it looks promising. The negative reviews on the kit lenses are disheartening but it could be wonderful for me. The camera is decent priced that I feel like I could buy a Neewer/Meikon underwater housing (because I don't have the money for a Nauticam).it scares me about the possibility of it leaking and ruining my camera, though I have seen good reviews.

also interested in Nikon 1 AW1 due to the fact that the camera is already suitable for underwater, But I've read a number of reviews that claimed leakage and it ruining the camera, which makes me nervous.

I wonder if I'd be better off getting the A6000 or a cheaper mirrorless and buying a cheaper actioncam with underwater housing for any water photos on the side, like the Xiaomi Yi, though I feel like I'd be sacrificing quality of underwater photos. Even though I know the Gopro is good, it would probably put me over my desired budget if I got it alongside a Mirrorless.

NIKON D5200 autofocus?

Okay so I have the Nikon D5200 which I use to record video. But when I use the AF-F setting the camera continues to "search" so a new focus causing my video to keep going in and out of focus every few seconds and making a loud lense noise which ruins the video. Is there a way I can have it autofocus but not as often? And a way to fix the loud sound? Would getting an external mic help?
Thank you!

Best Lenses for Nikon D7100?

Recently bought a Nikon D7100 and I am looking for an everyday lens. I am mainly looking for a couple of lenses, like a solid 0ne-two punch for the camera. I currently have the 18-105 lens from the kit and got a used lens from a family member (55-300). With the 55-300, I am limited to very far pictures and cannot get the full scene in the frame and I do not believe the 18-105 is going to cut it in the long run. I have heard the Tokina 11-16 is a nice wide angle lens as well as the Sigma 18-35 for an everyday. Are these two pretty good choices? Recommendations?

Thank you!

Tips for switching to film?

I've been interested in photography for several years. I'm by no means a professional, but I know my way around a camera and I have a bit of experience. It's a hobby, but a fairly serious hobby. I have a few friends who are also photographers and some shoot film- they all started out on digital, in this modern day and age, but switched to film for various reasons. The most compelling one I have heard is that film forces you to really think about what you're shooting, because you have to pay for the film and pay for development and you can't just go and shoot several hundred shots in an afternoon. I have been thinking about joining (or at least trying out) the film world. I have a camera that was once my father's. I was just wondering if anybody had any tips for the technical aspects of switching. For example, I've heard about the sunny 16 rule (or something similar) where on a sunny day, at f/16, you can shoot ISO 100 film at 1/100s, or ISO 400 film at 1/400s, etc. I would mostly be using the film camera for landscapes and stick with my Nikon for sports.
If it helps, these are the cameras/lenses
Digital:
Nikon d7100
Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6
Nikkor 35mm f/1.8

Film:
Minolta SLR (not sure which model, as it's still shipping from across the country)
Minolta 55mm f/1.7
Minolta 28mm f/3.5
Saligor 300mm f/5.5

What lens would be good to replace my Nikon 18-55mm kit lens?

I am an amateur portrait photographer and am looking into replacing the 18-55mm kit lens. I have a 40mm f2.8 macro lens that I use for close up shots, but I am looking for a lens that can counterbalance what I use that lens for. I like the range of the 18-55 mm, but the lens is old and the focusing is a little off. What would be a good lens to replace this in quality and function? I am looking into the Nikon 18-105mm f3.5, the Nikon 18-140mm f3.5, or maybe the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8. I would love to find a lens that can still be used for close up shots but that I can also use for group shots or to get more of the scenery in the picture. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

What alternate lenses will work for my Nikon D3100?

I am searching on eBay for a cheaper lens to play with for my D3100. I don't know what to look for.

Another reason I believe this is right time to get a decent resale value for D5100.

As for buying Nikon, I learned when I started off shooting that Nikon makes better glasses than Canon.

Macro photography with a Nikon dx body?

Ok so macro photography is something very new to me, but has always seemed very fascinating and fun.

To start off I have a Nikon D5000 so I can't even really consider any AF-D lenses if I want to still have auto-focus. I've been looking into things such as the 85mm f/3.5 DX and the 60mm f/2.8 FX. To be completely honest, I don't know if either of these would do the trick for macro photography or even how good/bad of an idea it would be to use a full frame lense on a dx camera.

Any kind of advice on what I should be looking for with this sort of thing would be awesome as well as knowing possible third party lenses that would do the trick for this like Sigma or Tokina.

If possible, I'd like to stay in the price range of $600 or less.

Thanks anyone and everyone for the help.

Improving my photography (pics)?

I love taking photos of my daughter and I'd like to improve.
I'm using a Nikon D3100 and the basic kit lens.
I've taught myself how to shoot in manual (thank you youtube). Now I've just started using photoshop. Just for basic brightening and some sharpening.

What would be the next step to improve would you say?
I was thinking maybe I should start with getting another lens. Any recommendations?

Here are some photo's I've taken. Please offer some constructive criticism but don't be to harsh as I'm just a beginner to the DSLR world:)

Nikon aw1 or sony nex 5n? (with waterproof case)?

I was looking for a good mirror less camera. And i came across the Nikon aw1.
I liked it because it was waterproof and had interchangeable lenses. It was perfect for me because I'm not really careful with electronics, or anything:/ then i found the Sony nex 5 and a waterproof case for it. Now I'm having trouble deciding of which camera to buy.
What do you guys think?

How to click a picture by nikon d60 in auto mode, keeping multiple subjects in focus?

Suppose you are taking a photo of 5 people standing side by side. The camera automatically focusses at a point. If the photo gets clicked in this mode, the face in focus remains sharp and the other things gets a bit blurred. I have tried it in totally zoomed out mode, but the result is same. How can I solve the problem keeping the cam in auto mode?

Shutter speed changes automatically for different shots?

I'm currently shooting a short with a Nikon D3100. I shoot wide open with a shutter of 1/50 and have the camera set to manual mode for obvious reasons. I'm now looking back at the previous scenes I've shot and I noticed that some shots have motion blur (which is expected from 1/50 shutter) and other shots in the same exact scene have absolutely no motion blur at all. I'm looking at a person move their hand and there is motion blur followed by another shot where someone is moving their hand with no motion blur AT ALL. It looks like I shot it with completely different settings which makes no sense at all because I ALWAYS have it on manual with 1/50 and f1.8. Is this a common problem? Is there a factor I'm not taking into account? Is the lighting screwing with me? Is the camera mentally slow? I'm so confused right now and I was hoping someone might have a clue.
Added (1). It looks like as if I'm shooting 1/250 shutter when it clearly says 1/50.

Nikon D90 with 18-55 mm lens focusing issues?

Nikon D90 with 18-55 mm lens focusing issues?
Added (1). I have a Nikon D90 that I have been using for portrait photography. I have an 18-55mm lens thats probably 10 years old that I use. I now realize that this is a pretty old lens, but it still works pretty well. The biggest problem that I am having with it is that when I use it to take photos, it tends to focus on what is behind the subject rather then their face. Do you think this a back focus issue? Or am I just not using the focus correctly? Is there anything I can do to change this?

Great cameras for studio photography?

Hi, I was wondering what are some good camera upgrades from the Canon T3? I was gifted that camera about two years ago and I have thought that its time for an upgrade. My main focus in photography is studio work. Product photos and portraits. I know its best to get more lenses but I have many already, so I don t think its in my best interest for right now. I don t particularly have a budget but anything under $600 would be great. I am looking or a Canon camera but if you have Nikon recommendations, please let me know! Thanks for the Advice!

D810 Low Light Perf?

I know this isn't dpforums but… Practically, how does the D810 perform in lowlight? I don't need some DXO number bs. Setting? Dimly-lit street/park. Lens recommendations for 70d video?

I have done small films before and am looking to get into DSLR. I have $2000 to spend for everything, and I've decided that the 70d is the best camera for my needs. This eats up half my budget though, before I get audio, a tripod, extra batteries and sd cards, and all the other little accessories I need. Lucky for me, I already have a 70-300 efs USM lens(http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/397663-USA/Canon_0345B002_EF_70_300mm_f_4_5_6_IS.html) and a 17-85mm of the same type.(http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/351548-USA/Canon_9517A002BA_EF_S_17_85mm_f_4_5_6_IS.html)

I am planning to do off camera audio so I'm not worried about them not being stm, but are they any good for video? And what other lenses should I consider?

Thanks in advance.

How to set up AT897 Line and Gradient Condenser Microphone with Nikon D5300?

I have a passion for photography and films and have recently gotten into the hobby of film-making. For my birthday, my family researched good microphones and bought me the Audio Technica AT897, which has a great reputation. However, as I am only just beginning this hobby, I have very limited knowledge about it and have no idea how to use it, with instructions and the internet not helping too much. I was wondering if there was some way i could mount it to my Nikon d5300 and what cable I would need to connect it? I have no idea how to even turn it on or transfer the audio to my laptop. Do I need a boom pole or a shock mount or can I just attach it to my camera somehow so I don't have to buy all of these things before I can get started?

Will the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G work with my camera body, the Nikon D3100?

A few months ago, my standard lens broke off the camera body and it would still work, but it wasn't always attached.

Which lens are best for filming with a DSLR?

First off, I understand camcorders are best for filming that a Digital SLR, but my interest is both Photography and Videography, so I went with could benefit me both. At the time, I only had enough money for an entry level DSLR, the Nikon D3200. My style of film is cinematic, and my inspirations are vigilante/ superheroes type show. Even romance. For me, my best interest is to have as little noise as possible, and as happy as I was with my kit Lens, I've been taking interest in a Nikon 50mm Len. Is that a good choice, and if so, which model specifically. I'm also torn between Auto or Manual focus. I know it's all on preference but I'd love to hear your opinions on which you prefer. Thank you.

Photographing Stars?

Hello all. I am currently in Helen, GA for a weekend getaway. Tonight the stars were so pretty and I desperately wanted to capture the beauty. So I unpacked my tripod and set up my Nikon D3300 to take a few shots of the night sky. I was nowhere around the city, and there were no bright lights messing with the view--not even the moon. I tried to manually focus with my 35mm lens and got nothing. The live view screen remained black. I tried again and action to no avail. No matter what I did, all that appeared was a black screen, and it was the same when I did a test shot. And yes, the lens cap was off. I have tried googling for some info on this, but all that really comes up is to make sure your focus ring is at infinity and you are in manual focus and no other light source is present. I did all of this and had no luck. None. Could someone with much more experience than this poor soul who loves to capture the world as she sees it please help said poor soul out? Is there something I am just missing? Thank you!

Nikon DSLR not working?

My Nikon D3200 camera stopped working. I bought this camera 3 yrs ago. Today I was taking time lapse pictures after connecting it to an Aputure intervalometer. The only light glowing is the short green light which glows after inserting a memory card. My Nikon D3100 won't auto focus?

So I bought a Nikon D3100 around 7 or 8 months ago and till yesterday, I had no problems with using it. However, yesterday when I grabbed the camera to take a picture I realized it couldn't focus on anything automatically. I didn't insist on the problem and took the photo manually but today I saw that it wasn't a temporary situation. I took off the lens and placed again but didn't it solve anything. I behaved my camera very well and I swear I didn't do anything that I think could damage the camera. And I'm using the standard lens comes with the cam.

What might have happened? And what can I do? I purchased it from Abu-Dhabi so I assume the warranty isn't valid here in Turkey?

Upgrading from Nikon D90?

I currently shoot with a Nikon D90 (raw, manual, usually with a 50mm f1.4 or 35mm 1.8, primarily people). I am looking to upgrade to something with better high ISO capability and more focusing ability (for example, I feel like I have to up the f stop too much to achieve focus on more than one eye). $1500 is the top end of my budget. I am looking at the D7200, although the D7100 has also interested me since the D7200 has lowered it's price. I have done some review research but was looking for "real life" advice.

It's a smallish camera (for a DSLR), and I will have a prime lens on, but I'm afraid it is too 'professional' looking. I know the venue says no cameras with a detachable lens are allowed, but I've been to others venues that have stated that and there are TONS of people that still bring them in. What would they do if I still tried to bring it in? Has anyone ever been stopped and turned away because of it?

Why won't my camera turn on?

I was just in the middle of taking some photos, when my camera went off. I left it for a while, tried again and then it turned on. But the next day it wouldn't turn on at all. I have a spare battery and made sure both were charged, and tried both. I've removed SD card and lens, nothing. Normally when you remove lens or SD card a light flashes (provided battery is in), and that didn't happen. I've checked the battery contacts and they're clean.
My camera is (was?) a Nikon D3200.
