Can you manually focus your camera and still use autofocus?

Is it good for your camera to use the autofocus and maunally zoom? I am new to the camera "profession." I use the manual zoom in and the switch the m to a for autofocus.It gives the picture the focus it needs that I can't get with the manual sometimes.Is this bad for the camera? Or is it normal? I have a Nikon d3200.

What lens is recommended for portraits 18-55 or 55-200?

I have a Nikon D60 and only the above lenses. I am going to take some pics of my daughter outside. I am a novice and would love some input!

But no image stabilization?

I wanna get a beginner dslr, i am a beginner and this would be my first ever. I wanna get the nikon d5100, or d3200 or something but they have no image stabilization automatically. I dont know how to do that, so if i got one would all of images be blurs? Thanks!

Which lens should i use?

I picked up my first SLR camera, it's a Nikon D3100 it came with 2 lenses (18-55mm & 55-200mm) and was wondering which one would be best for taking pictures of lightning and severe weather and the advantages of the 2 lenses? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is Nikon d40 still a good camera in 2013?

Found a used Nikon d40 I might buy. Not sure about a camera with fewer megapixels than my phone(6.1). Anyone with experience with this camera let me know how well the pictures turn out? How large can I enlarge a photo before it starts to look pixelated? I currently use a film slr (k1000) and a digital bridge camera(16.1 mp fujifilm) and just want to be sure I'm not taking a step back.

Good high quality canon eos camera?

Im mostly looking to just take nice high quality pictures of myself, and my friends and family etc.i want to buy a canon eos camera and i was wondering which one would be recommended? im only looking at canon eos so please dont try to tell me to buy a nikon or a different type of camera.ive heard the rebel works well but what others one take good high quality pictures? help is much appreciated

PHOTOGRAPHERS ONLY: Christmas photo lens?

Hi! I have a nikon DSLR with a DX sensor. I am taking my family's christmas photos and I am wondering what the best lens would be for this. I am looking for something wide, possibly f/ 1.8, but I want to get the best value possible. Also, I'm not sure whether I should go with a prime or zoom lens.It must have a good AF-S so that I can fire a remote.
