Photoshop effect on photography photos?

I'm trying to be a photographer and there's lately been a really popular effect on instagram, tumblr, and on flickr.It looks like they photoshop with little contrast, but I tried it with my Nikon D5000 camera and I just can't seem to get the editing right. Photo examples:

I hope this makes sense. I tried making the contrast low, but it didn't look like this effect. Help! All answers are appreciated. (:

Prime vs Telephoto, suggestions?

Hello. I currently have the Nikon 18-105 kit lens, and am considering purchasing a second lens. I'm torn between the Nikon 35mm f1.8 and the Sigma 70-300 macro/telephoto lens. Any suggestions?

What nikon dslr camera should I upgrade to from a nikon d3000?
Added (1). I have 3 lens with my little camera an 18-55mm (standard kit lens) an all rounder 18-200mm and a 50mm prime lens (my favourite.)

Which entry-level DSLR is best for a non-pro?

I've been travelling a lot lately and I'm planning to buy a new DSLR to capture all my journeys. Which entry-level DSLR would you guys recommend? Also which brand is better, Canon or Nikon?

If you could only have ONE of these DSLR Camera which would you choose?

A) Nikon D90
B) Canon 550d
The Canon has got "Bigger numbers" but does this mean it is a better camera?
Both of these camera have been around a while now the Canon dates back to 2010 and the Nikon goes way back to 2008.
The Canon has the Typical Canon "Kinder egg toy" feel to it..The Nikon D90 feels like it could survive a nuclear blast. That said Nikon has now watered down the build quality on its latest budget DSLR cameras..Like Canon have ALWAYS done.

Camera memory card is stuck?

I removed the memory card (to check on something) and when I put it back in, it didn't fit that much. I tried the other way but it was worse.So i went back to the other way and just pushed a little harder but now the memory card is stuck. What can I do to get it out? It's nikon d3200

What would be a good first camera for aspiring photographer?

Okay I've got tons of cameras already I just want one especially for work. I'm 19 so nothing crazy expensive. I'm starting to get jobs taking pictures for different occasions. I prefer nikon. Help!!!

Nikon camera photos aren't uploading?

I uploaded some photos from my Nikon d3200 to my computer and it worked fine. But when I tried it again this time, it wouldn't upload! Nothing is popping up. What's wrong? And how do you charge the battery?

Can this picture be considered as decent?

I went to a football training last night and I tried my best to shoot the best I can using my Nikon D5100 and kit lens (18-55mm) combo.

The colour of the picture was edited. Also, the original picture was much bigger and you can't barely see the face of the players. This picture in the link was cropped so it was kind of like zoomed in and the players appear much bigger in size.

Also, do you know any way (converter, software or something) that allows me to zoom in the picture I took without reducing the size of the original picture (like I wont have to crop the picture)?
