Why won't my pictures upload on my Nikon Transfer?

I have a Nikon s550 digital camera. I got it about two years ago and has been working great, but recently, I tried to upload pictures onto the computer. I plug in my camera and a menu pops up.It says "camera connected" and then is suppose to have a list of programs (I think) and it says "select the program to launch for this action:" Then the camera symbol on the actual Nikon Transfer program shows up. I press the button, and say "start transfer" but after waiting for fifteen minutes, it has yet to upload a single picture. Help please!

Nikon D3100 help? Bonfire photos?

I'm new to photography and the new proud owner of the Nikon D3100. I will be shooting in many different sporting situations (football, baseball, indoor volleyball, etc.) as well as portraits for friends and family. This fall I have been asked to take pictures at a friends birthday party and it will be a bonfire in the woods. I was wondering if there is anyway I could get quality pictures without using a flash at the bonfire? I'd like to use the most "natural" light from the fire as possible. If someone could tell me step by step directions to setting up the camera, it'd be greatly appreciated :)
Added (1). I have an 18 to 55mm lens and a 55 to 200mm lens. If that makes a difference…

What would you do? Would you buy a refurbished lens?

Would you rather buy a lens refurbished by Nikon than a generic brand like Tamron, I want to buy a 17-55mm f/2.8 but new is around $1400 refurbished I can find it at $ 1000 but I am not sure if the lens will be the same???

I really wanted to be in the photo when I picture with my friends. Sometimes I use the self timer mode, but I would still wait for 10 seconds just to capture one shot. Now, I want to know how to take photos in burst mode with self timer in D40

I'm currently considering Craigslist, eBay, and Adorama. I'm attempting to sell my Nikon D70 and my Canon SX20, as well as their equipment (lenses, batteries, chargers, etc.) What would you recommend?

Do all Nikon DSLR's use the same lenses?

I was hoping to surprise my other half with a Nikon d3000 DSLR camera this month, but I know that down the road she was hoping to buy extra lenses to enhance her camera. I've heard that Nikon Lenses are the best but do all their cameras accept all the different lenses they offer? Or do I need to buy a particular model to take advantage of the extra lenses?
