Are these dslr cases really waterproof?

I'm planning on buying the nikon d3200 this summer. I would like to take some underwater photos so I would like to buy a waterproof case. Do you think this one is safe? I really wouldn't like to destroy my camera as soon as I buy it. Thank you in advance. Here is the link to the case:http://www.amazon.com/Koolertron-Underwater-Waterproof-Canon-Nikon/dp/B00DR97XQU/ref=sr_1_23?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1401582805&sr=1-23&keywords=nikon+d3200+accessories

Tips for shooting good photos in Forests?

I have a Nikon D80 with a sigma 'hyperzoom' macro (it's not a true macro lens) 28-200mm lens. I was wondering how to perfect the exposure in a forest because it can change a lot. Is it best to go early/late in the day or mid day because of the different light. I know how aperture, shutter priority, iso and white balance work. Any other tips would be appreciated, thanks:)
Added (1). *because the light can change a lot.

Manually focusing tips?!

So, I am currently using a Nikon D3000 and have begun shooting manually since I have gotten used to the aperture and shutter speed and whatnot.

However, while I do know how to take a nice picture, manually focusing is what is bringing me down. Since the Nikon D3000 does not have the ability to shoot video, I am forced to use the viewfinder to focus my photos.

Sometimes it becomes too difficult to see through the viewfinder and I don't exactly know if the photo is focus at that moment unless I take it and make sure.

Are there any tips on manually focusing aside from trial and error? Thank you!

Sigma 70-200 2.8, Tamron 70-200 2.8 or Nikkor 70-200 2.8 VRII?

I'm in the process of selecting a new lens for my camera, a Nikon D7100 that works perfectly for sports, birds, landscape, street and people photography. I'm new to the whole photography thing (merely a year give or take) but I just don't know if I should invest in a professional-grade lens or on a 3rd party lens that brings "similar" quality to that of professional lenses.

I don't want to say that money isn't a problem at all but I am well aware that I could save a ton getting the sigma one but my thinking is: if I am going to invest in good lenses, why not go for the "professional" ones if I will eventually someday end up with a flagship lens either way? -- but then again, since I don't make money off of this and it's just a hobby I can't really justify the need of buying a $2,400 lens even though I'm taking photography courses just because I like it so much.

I've read many reviews on the sigma vs the nikon and it seems to me that for what I do and the cost of the lens, I should go ahead and get the sigma since we're talking about a $1,000 difference here.

Update: I did a bit more research and found the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR I for about the same price as the Sigma ($1,200-1,500 in near mint condition used, 8.5/10). Should I get the used Nikkor instead?
Added (1). I forgot to mention that I've considered the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 (latest iteration) since it is sharper than the Sigma wide open at 70mm and 200mm. The only thing that bothers me is the slow focus.

Printing photos from Lightroom 5?

I currently did a a senior photo shoot. I shoot with a Nikon D3100 and in Raw format, I then imported the files and edit them on Lightroom 5, After doing so I exported them onto my facebook and my website adn they looked perfect. I exported the files for email as well to the customer and when she went to print the photos at wal greens she said they were coming out grainy. She was going to use them as a graduation invite size 11x7.
What did i do wrong in the process. What do I need to change in Lightroom so the pictures won't come out that way?

Why do people think they're amazing photographers on instagram?

Seriously, we've all seen this: "hey everyone look at this really crappy image of a sunset that I am going to put 3,000,000,000 filters on! WOW so cool!" It's irritating because a phone cameras' quality is abysmal at best, and yet, they think they are amazing photographers. Along with the redundant posting of food, shadows, feet, faces, etc… 99% of the people on instagram don't know what rule of thirds is, or even how to frame an image. I could go out and take a picture of grass with my Nikon D7100, and people would think I'm god, but I don't because that's retarded. I don't even have an instagram, but somehow people's photos leak onto Facebook. And oh god… The horrible depth of field filter! "look at this blurryness on this image with this atrocious filter!" A) it's called bokeh B) that image is as sharp as a wooden sword C) there is so much grain I can't even tell what the image is D) the white balance is off E) over saturated and F) why is the subject in the center of the frame. I could go on and on, but what do you guys think? Has instagram ruined what amateur photography is about?

on a side note, people don't even go out and buy DSLRs they just use their garbage phone camera.
Added (1). It's not the images I have a problem with (some I do like food). It's the people who think their images are stellar works of art.
Added (2). Joedh, I care because it's people like them who give amateur photography a bad name. Also, as soon as you go above what seems to be iso 300 on a phone camera, the grain starts to get really heavy. If you compare the worst dslr (nikon/canon) to you average Iphone camera, then the Iphone camera doesn't even compare to the DSLR.

Nikon D7100 Best Lenses between the two? (NY Trip)?

I plan on going to NY (Manhattan) and plan on using a few different photography, Portrait (with background clear and blurred), and Landscape (Ground level (Sculptures) and sky-view (such as Top of the rock (Similar to empire state building.

I'm looking at two different lenses:

Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX AF-S G NIKKOR (2003-)

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1755.htm

and

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 FX AF-S G ED NIKKOR (2007-)

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/24-70mm.htm

I was told that both lenses are compatible with D7100. I don't care about the price, I just want to know which would be better out of the two (for my needed uses). One person recommended the FX (because I want to do Portrait and Landscape and the portrait would be better for this lens) lens I was just wondering since the DX lenses was built for the D7100 why wouldn't it be better?

Any suggestions for first SLR?

Hey! :)

I have a question which has been asked multiple times on here. However, I'm going to ask it again as i have a few questions to go along with it:)

I am very interested in getting into photography. I currently have a Bridge Camera (Nikon L120) and while it's an okay camera I am not overly happy with the picture quality or the features. I find the picture quality on my Phone matches the quality of the l120.

I mainly take nature photos/photos of lakes etc and there is no way to change the shutter speed, aperture on the camera. This leads to ALOT of blurring in moving objects. While close up objects look amazing anything far away looks blurry and awful (This could be my lack of technique/skill though?)

I don't really know ANYTHING about photography but I am starting a level one basics - adult course in August.

I was just wondering a few things.

1: What would be a good camera for somebody starting out? I am thinking maybe a SLR that bridges the gap (technically and financially) between my £130 L120 'Bridge' camera and pretty good SLR. If I enjoy the course I can then splash out a bit more at a later date (3-4 years time). Any suggestions? I don't want a professional £700 bare bones camera but I also don't want a cheapy camera that is very limiting.

2: I currently have a budget of £400-500 MAX budget. Is the above possible with this budget?

3: Should you stay away from a second hand cameras from Ebay/CEX etc?
Any suggestions for first SLR - 1

Which camera to buy? - 2

Hi,

So, I'm trying to buy a camera now, a DSLR and here's my options

Canon 650D or also know as Rebel T4i (2nd Hand) - With the basic kit like 18-55mm lens, etc… She seldom uses it and needs money though. I believe she bought it at around $800 USD and she's offering me the product for only $500. Roughly more than 1 year with her though.

Nikon D3200 (Brand New!) - With the basic kit as well (Cost just about $500)

Some review says Nikon D3200 is good, but 650D is great as well! I'm actually torn right now. Please help.

Thanks!

Odd digital 'koch' smearing on footage?

Background: The lens is a Zeiss Distagon 50mm, the camera is a Sony PMW-F3 with Nikon mount. The smearing effect is consistent across shots and is priapic in shape. It resembles a creamy white residue on the lens, however there appear to be no contaminants on the lens itself.

Why can't I take a long exposure photo during the day?

I've done some long exposures at night with steel wool photography, but today I wanted to do a long exposure of a waterfall I saw. The camera (Nikon D3000) said the subject was too bright, and after taking the photo it was completely white, you couldn't see anything. I haven't changed anything in the settings but making the shutter speed a little longer (it was set for 15sec from my last project). How can I fix this?

Thanks!

Is this considered a real camera?

i was out and about taking pics with my D7100

there was a couple, a man and a woman, nearby talking

the woman pointed at me and said, "now THAT is a real camera"

i just smiled and said thanks (the guy with her was twice my size so i got outta there before he thought something was up lol)

anyway, i do not know if he or she were professional photographers, but would a pro consider that model of Nikon a "real" camera, whatever that means:)

Nikon S3500 photos coming out weird?

i recently (maybe 2 weeks ago) bought a Nikon S3500 digital camera from Target. It worked perfectly fine until i turned on the camera today to take some photos. Suddenly the LCD has a purple tint to it and when i take a photo they all have a weird tint to it and fuzzy gray/black lines on them. I tried uploading the photos to my computer and the lines are still there.

here is one of the photos to show you what they look like:

does anyone know what the problem might be? Would it be the camera itself or maybe the SD card? If i do need to return it does Target accepted opened electronics as a return?

Looking to upgrade from a standard point and shoot camera to a good DSLR?

I am doing some research into buying a good DSLR camera with some lenses. I have been looking at the Nikon D5300 and Nikon D7100.

The main purpose of the camera is that i want to be able to take great photos of my family and upcoming family events, and then use these photos to print and display.

Question is, what is a decent camera to purchase, and what lense(s) would you recommend buying, as from what i have read, the kit lenses are perhaps not that good and i would be better off buying the stand alone camera and adding lenses to it.

I do also plan on taking a photography course so i can understand the functions of the camera much better, so would like to make sure i buy a decent quality camera.

Would love to hear peoples comments.

CAMERA WHITE BALANCE?

Hello guys, I have a Nikon D3200 which i use as holidays camera. But recently i've noticed a problem with it.Whenever i am shooting under ambient light situations. The camera just give me a plainly flat colour image(Everything is white, no visible ambient light). But whenever i use the flash with it(whether uner TTL or manual exposure:assuming the exposure is correctly set.), it gives me the pictures well exposed with the ambient lights. I would like to know how to solve it by myself before going to a technician because they just charge high money even if its something really minor(they are not fair at all on the pricing).Concerning the camera,i've tried preset modes and its a real pain, i dont want to use the grey card because it will be a hassle each time to reset it(unless am shooting for the kids of my uncle and then i want specific color temperatures to be visible.)This is being a pain for me to deal with the camera such because i most of the time shoot moody pictures(no flash at all).

Some hint which might help you figure it out for me: i've tried taking a shot of a light bulb which is warm in color temperature(yellowish), but the camera gives me a white picture(not yellow at all:( ). My problem is not yellow pictures but i know right there if its not working for yellow then it wont work for other colors as well under ambient light situations.

Thank you in advance. Have a nice Day.

Portrait photography?

I want to get into portrait photography. I enjoy being creative, but my artistic abilities are not so great. I'm hoping photography could be that creative outlet. This is not for a business or anything like that. I'm definitely new to photography and simply want to have fun with it.

I own 2 older Nikon digital slr's. The D50 and D3100, and I have a few old film slr's that produce awesome images. I understand the bare basics as far as iso, aperature, shutter speed, and white balance. I can compose a decent shot that is exposed well. My question is how do I go from producing everyday run of the mill shots to something dramatic and nice to look at? I've been experimenting with lighting but I don't want the plain olan mills family portrait look. I really like the look of the hollywood glamour shots of the 50's. Obviosly these were produced by pros but as far as lighting goes what can I use without spending thousands of dollars on professional equipment? I've been researching lighting setups for beginners, and i've considered buying a cheap amazon beginner lighting set. Any helpful hints for a clueless newbie?
Added (1). Thanks for the feedback. The word "client" doesn't have anything to do with me taking photographs. I think for some photography could be an art, for others it's a meticulous undertaking that results in getting a check to pay the bills. My question for the most part pertained to lighting.

Deciding on speedlights and wireless triggers?

Hi, I'm thinking on getting a speedlight for my photography. I have decided on Yongnuo YN-560iii as they are great speedlights for their price. My first quetion is whether I should buy only 1 speedlight or two as on Strobist.com and many other sites and such, I have seen that a double speedlight setup results in much more creative control, espcially for some of the shots I have in mind.

Second question is, can a Yongnuo RF-603 C1 flash work with a Nikon D3200 or are there some limitations? I know the cable release won't work, but doesn't the thing act as a wireless camera trigger? Please explain in depth.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-HandFree-Camcorder-Video-DV-DSLR-SLR-Camera-Shoulder-Mount-Support-Pad-AU-/251321009460?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a83e64534&_uhb=1

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Handheld-Camera-Steadycam-Steadicam-Video-Stabilizer-for-Canon-Nikon-DSLR-LF327-/171298778410?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item27e233ed2a&_uhb=1

Both have a slight difference in price. But that aside, which tool would be more ideal if I am going to run with the camera?

Thanks

Should I upgrade from my Canon EOS 350D/Rebel XT in the near future?

I currently own the Canon EOS 350D. Yes it's 2014 and its almost 10 years old and blah blah please don't mention its age, I love it for the features it gives me and the images are great. I also love the features it has, I learned how to go slr with this camera years back and I would never need anything more in image quality.'

The one thing I'm really concerned about is the build quality. I'm worried, that if I drop it it will shatter. I have big hands and a big grip, it feels a tad small and plasticy for my tastes. I like the fake leather design and heavier and metal clad build of the amateur and professional bodies.

I could just buy a battery grip and keep it, this is where I ask your advice.

Other things, such are burst fps, the clickwheel for adjusting in manual mode (soooo much faster than the buttons on the Rebel lineup) and the weather sealing are other factors that make me consider another camera.

Now, since I have a Canon I am looking at other Canons. I like the looks of the 20/30/40D, but I've even looked at some professional models such as the 1D mkII. I also am fond of Nikons, but once again I would have to state a new inventory of lenses if I bought one.

I don't want to pay over 350$ for the body really. I don't need much better image quality or noise performance than my 350D has, either.

I plan on using the body for general purposes (all scenarios, the lenses are what I change regularly).

And please don't question my shooting experience.

Quality photog backpack for Haiti trip?!

I am going on a missions trip to haiti this summer and am looking to buy a nice backpack to carry all of my gear in. I am taking a nikon d3100 body with a grip, the 18-55 kit lens, 55-200, 35mm prime, and other small stuff (hoods, filters, batteries, and some personal items)
I am hoping to spend less than $150.00 on it and I am looking for a backpack that will provide good security (while I am wearing it/if I ever were to take it off--don't plan on that), enough space for everything, relatively small(carry-on size), and water/weather-proof.
I understand that it is kind of a big order for so cheap but hopefully someone can help!
I looked at the lowepro flipside 300 and LOVED it but after doing some research I found that it wouldn't fit my camera well with the grip on it.

Taking a DSLR To A Concert?

I'm going to One Direction next week and was wondering if they allow you to take DSLR's into the concert (I have a Nikon D3200) people say that you're not aloud to take professional cameras into the event but I don't think it particularly a 'professional camera' as I'll only have my kit lens on it.

Promaster lens wont fit Canon EOS Rebel XT digital camera?

My cousin sent me back home with an SUV full of stuff to sell for him. Within the plethora of guy crap was the camera mentioned above with a Promaster for Canon lens, a Promaster 70-300mm lens and a Nikon 35mm film camera with a lens. I was asked to sell the Canon with the 70-300mm lens together. I looked it up on ebay and found the exact same lens and camera bundle i had sitting before me. I listed it locally, not on ebay, and it sold for about the same price as that listing i had seen.

The guy that bought it texted me tonight saying that the extra lens didnt fit the canon. He tested everything here before he took it home. Im not quite sure what to do about this. How can one tell if the lens is for the right camera? I know nothing of photography, just that im going to strangle my cousin if he ever asks me to sell his crud again.

Tmaron 18-270mm or tamron 70-300mm?

I have been using the kit lens (18-55mm) that came with my nikon D3100, and now i think its time to change to a bigger one.
i made some research on the internet and i found 2 lens that I'm interested in.
the first one is the tamron 18-270 with this great focal length i can use it in almost any situation.
The other one is the tmaron 70-300mm i found that the image quality are a bit better with this one, however if i chose it, i would have to carry my 18-55mm every where.
in addition the information i got are not very specific and ill be thankful if someone could help me with this decision.

Long exposures with Nikon D5200?

I've been looking everywhere for an answer to this, but I can't find anything. Is it even possible to do long exposures with the D5200? And by long exposures, I mean 15-30 minutes-long. Is there a setting for it? I tried using the bulb mode with my remote (wr-r10/wr-t10), but the shutter still closes after only 60 seconds. So, if this is possible, please let me know how!

(Also, I have a D80 that I don't use much anymore. If it isn't possible to do very long exposures with the D5200, would it be possible with the D80?)

Thanks in advance!

Travel Lens for Haiti Trip?!

I'm going to Haiti on a missions trip in a couple of months and I'm bringing my camera with me. I was wondering what a good lens would be to bring since I don't really want to deal with multiple lenses, changing them and cleaning out dust and dirt. Does anyone know of any lenses that I could get for relatively cheap that would work for portraits and wider angle shots? I use a Nikon D3100 and right now I'm stuck using the kit lens which is 18-35 and a telephoto 55-200. I have a budget of about $300.00, maybe a bit more if it is absolutely necessary.
Thanks!

Opinions on my photography? - 1

Now before I start I want to make one thing clear, I'm not trying to promote myself or attempt to increase my followers like many do on here which is a rather pathetic way of going about it. My aim is to receive some constructive criticism as opposed to praise, though if you do have any compliments they too will be more than welcome:) I'm pretty confident in that my photography is decent and I feel I'm at the stage that I have little more to learn in terms of how to use a camera but my expertise is limited when it comes to lighting and perhaps even composing. I use a Nikon D800 aswell as a D700 with the following Nikkor lenses, 24-70 f2.8, 12-24 f4, 105 f2.8 and quite a number of AIS lenses which I use almost as often as the G lenses. I'm a cinematographer at heart but only recently acquired the means to shoot video when the D800 came into my possession. The only reason I have this incredibly expensive equipment is due to the fact my Mum is a photographer and recently I figured if I have this sort of equipment so readily available I would be mad not to learn photography for myself and now I would say I am very experienced with how to use these devices, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc I am more than familiar with.

So have a look at my Instagram 'samrielly' (I know the pictures are very small and the compression is horrendous but I pick my best images to put on there whereas on Flickr I put just about everything.)
Added (1). Alternatively look at my Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/92680644@N08/with/14009262751

Or one of my videos,

Don't worry it's not real coke XD

btw my instagram shots tend to get a lot darker and less punchy but more moody and sincere most recently so also have a look down the line where they are more colourful, it happens pretty abruptly haha
Added (2). P.S. I use Lightroom very extensively for the majority of my shots.
Added (3).

haha sorry one more, the first one I feel is better but this one has much more diversity in it's shots and lighting etc.

Low end full frame or high end crop sensor for a beginner?

Trying to get my head around this but I just can't.First off I am beginner. I have a point to shoot and I've been always praised for the pics I shoot.I've shot birthday parties and few Christening party of my cousins, newborns pics. I will most probably do a portrait and fashion photography course. In addition to that i will be doing some low lights and a bit video. I won't be changing my gear or glasses for at least 2 years or 3.Apart from the money for the body that is $1700-$1800, I have $1000-$1200 separate for lenses and other accessories. The big hurdle which i am stuck on is should I go for a low end full frame or high end crop sensor.Low end full frame Nikon D610 or Canon 6D.High end crop sensor Nikon D7100 or Canon 70d.Want advice from someone experienced. Why won't my S360 nikon camera focus during videos?

I just recently bought a (used) s360 nikon camera in a perfect condition. I don't think its broken, I just think that I don't know how to use it. I can focus perfectly in a picture but in a video its hard to focus up close and it's frustrating. I know to focus you have to half press the shutter button but I hold it and keep doing it over and over and it doesn't focus. The manual says the exact same thing to half press it but it doesnt do ANYTHING. I would like SOMEBODY WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH CAMERAS, especially nikon, to help me instead of someone randomly guessing. You're not getting 10 points by simply telling me to read the manual or call the company. Thanks! :

Should I clean the fungus in my lens?

I know that i a pretty dumb question. But heres the thing, I have a Nikon 18-55 mm vr lens which is around 6 months old and now fungus has started growing due to the high humidity in my area. It hasn't spread very much and doesn't show up in any images. When i took it to the repair shop they said, to use for some more time and then repair as cleaning will make it regrow. What should I do? Please help.

Photography ideas - Is a photo-shoot at the time of an aurora a good idea?

The aurora aka northern lights is perhaps one of the most beautiful things ever. I have always wanted to see one, though the location of my country has never permitted me to see one. However, I was wondering, when I go to Norway or Finland, would it be a good idea to click some pics of mine with the aurora in the background?

Is there any photographer here who can give me a good idea about this? What kind of a camera should be used? Since it should be able to capture the aurora very well, with good clarity and sharpness I know that a very good camera should be used.

Also by what time of the year does the aurora appear? I am sorry I have no clue about it because I haven't seen or known about them.

Would it be dangerous to stay on the road/ground of wherever, when there is an aurora?

Please help. Thanks x

P.S. For any one of you who does not know what an aurora is, here's a picture and some information about it.

Nikkor 18-200mm or Sigma 18-250mm?

I'm going to be using this lens on my Nikon d3200 for travel and general all around shots. I have used the Nikkor 18-200mm a few times and generally like it except the fact it is a little on the heavy size and like other lenses it has barrel creep (which I don't mind too much). How to do Star Trail Photography with a Nikon D5200?

Is it possible to do that with a Nikon D5200 camera? (and get nice pictures)

I don't want sites given to me on how to do it or the Nikon 5200 website with info on the camera.

I just want to know if the exposure can be set long enough on it to be able it do it and I know there isn't a Bulb mode on this particular camera.

"You'll need a camera that can take very long exposure photos. An SLR or digital SLR with Bulb Mode is perfect".

Since it doesn't have a "Bulb Mode" on it which other settings would be a good substitute?

I know it needs the lowest ISO setting and wide aperture.

So for the love of god please do not comment if its not helpful just so you get your dumb points for answering questions.

Photography as a career?

I'm 14 and ever since I've been 12 I've been really interested in photography. I started off with a digital camera, then a bridge then I saved all my money and bought a Nikon D3200 which came with a kit lens and I honestly don't think my photos are too bad haha. I want photography to be my career and I hope to get university and everything. But the only thing is I really don't understand things like ISO, exposure, what different shutter speeds do and all of that. So is it pointless in me wanting to be a photographer if I don't understand anything on a DSLR? All I know how to do is point and shoot…
Also is a NIkon D3200 a bad camera to have whilst doing my GCSE's/A Levels? Like is it high tech enough?

Any advice would be very helpful! So thanks a lot:)

Help and advice on camera lenses?

Hi so I am quite new to the world of dslr cameras. I have got to grips with the settings of my nikon d3100 but I want to buy a few lenses for a little treat but there are so many different kinds I am very confused.

And finally what's the difference between this lens:

Taking multiple photos with different lighting/effects on a Nikon D3100?

I'm in a photography class in high school, and I constantly see advanced photo students taking duplicate photos with different filters within the camera.

I use a Nikon D3100, and I understand the parts of the camera and use manual mode, but don't necessarily understand every single feature it holds.

I want to know if there is a way I can take two identical photos, black and white and color, at once, within the camera.

I searched through the features in my camera camera, and tried checking out my manual about this, but I just don't know how to properly word it, or where to find it.

Any advice?

Video noise even at low ISOs?

I am new to dslr film making.

I have the Nikon d7000, and the kit lens 18-105 mm.

Even when I film at iso 160, the video is VERY noisy.

There is noise on the whole image, particularly the shadows. I have no idea what is wrong, I have tried various different combinations of ISO/ shutter speed/ aperture and I get the same results.

I'm filming in 1080p, 24 frames per second.

I have included an example of video at ISO 320, aperture f 3.5 and shutter speed 50. This is around the least noisy footage I can get and there is noise in the shadows, particularly under the desk in the example. Please help, how do I over come this noise? Is it a case of in camera settings or merely just the light in the scene? I am also using an IR filter (HOYA HMC uv 67mm), but its hardly relevant.

Please help me over come this noise, and any good sources for introductions to dslr film making are greatly appreciated.

Nikon D3200 White balance?

So I'm a complete beginner with DSLR cameras and wanted to try time-lapse photography. I have a Nikon D3200 and wanted to try some simple time-lapse of clouds to start out. I know the auto focus should be off, and use manual mode. Im somewhat familiar with the manual settings (iso, shutter speed, ext) and the 24-30 fps for smooth time lapses.

My main question is how to turn off the auto white balance? If i set the camera to manual mode does that automatically lock the white balance? There doesn't seem to be an "off" setting for white balance it just lets you choose between different scene modes (clouds, incandescent, ext.)

Also any good tips for shooting cloud time-lapse or any other scenes?

18-35mm lens for my Nikon D80?

I wanted a lens in the range of a few hunred (maybe 400/500), can i get a nikkor lens (or one that fits on my nikon) with a focal range of 18-35mm, with autofoucs preferably.

Any make, as long as it fits on the D80. Just a list with prices please.

I am right in thinking that a smaller zoom results in less problems with distortion/sharpness etc? Which is wy i'm avoiding an 18-55mm. I'm still new to lenses…

Best Point & Shoot for Quality Photos?

I'm a blogger and I normally shoot with my Nikon D5000. I have found that sometimes carrying around a big dSLR/camera bag, etc can be a hassle depending on what is going on that day. I'm looking for a smaller (not necessarily point and shoot) camera that I can fit in my purse and travel with ease without compromising quality.
I got my dSLR in 2010, and it's been just as long since I've taken any photo classes, so I'm out of loop as far as what's new and a good buy.

Any recommendations? I've been looking around at the Canon Powershot, possibly the SX50, or the Nikon 1 cameras.

Will this HDR trick work? Can somebody confirm?

I have a Nikon D3100 which does not have automatic bracketing exposure feature. So I decided to take 3 shots of a scene with low,mid & high exposure modes and then combine it for HDR effect. Though I used my tripod, there were slight variations in all the 3 pics because of having to change the shutter speed for different exposures.
Now, I have a random thought of taking just one pic and then edit it in light-room to produce 3 different pictures of different exposures and then finally combine them for HDR effect. Is this a good idea? Has someone tried this?

How do Canon and Nikon compare?

I am 14 and I really love photography so I am getting a Digital SLR. Could anyone give me some advice on which brad and model?

I am tossing up between Canon and Nikon and I need a camera that is good for a beginner but that wouldn't limit me as i am planning on learning new skills, taking courses, etc. Something under $600 (AUD) would is what I'm looking at, but I am going to Hong Kong soon, so I can get one cheaper there or in Duty Free.

If you could give me an un-bias opinion on both brands and tell me which you prefer as well as narrow down the model options and possibly recommend one in particular, I would be ever so grateful.
Added (1). At the moment I am leaning towards Canon as they have a good website and provide good courses, competitions, etc. What do you think of this?
Added (2). Also, what features are some of the most important that I should look out for in a camera.
Added (3). I will be using it to take creative photos of things around me such nature and the city in the day and night (so a camera that takes good pctures of city lights) as well as my family, friends and dog. I will take it on holidays as well in city environments and more 'wild'/natural environments.
I just want to be able to do great photography out of what I see everyday and learn new skills to do so.

Considering buying a new camera for my trip…what should I ask?

The description of the camera (Nikon D40) is this:

Parts included: camera body, kit lens (18-55mm), lens caps, lens cap keeper, battery, battery charger, USB-to-mini-USB cord, and manual. (No memory card.) Virtually no visible marks on body or lens, just a few very slight scratches on the LCD screen. Nothing that affects functionality. The automatic focus on the kit lens will very occasionally get "stuck."

Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera Dark Images?

Hi
Today i have just bought a Nikon D3300 DSLR and need some help. I was using the camera fine and getting amazing photos. This is where i made the mistake of attempting to explore the camera more. Now even in the bright sun outside the photos coming out are so dark you can just see an outline of what im photographing. On the readings it says the image is too dark and the exposure marker is going past -2. This is even after ive opened the Aperature to 5 (Biggest opening possible with lens), Put the ISO on 1600 and put the shutter speed to about 1/60. I want to take photos of fast action e.g. Car racing but i cant even take a still photo without blur due to long shutter speed. What do i do?
