I have a Nikon S9400, is there a program that allows for time lapse?

It's a point and shoot. I was wondering if there was a program that I can download or if there was an original setting that allowed you to take time lapses without me sitting there with it for countless hours and days (probably just hours but yeah). I know DSLRs come with such a fps built in program (at least a number of them do) but what about this Nikon S9400? Please refer me to a program or website that would help me. why does my SD card make copies of ALL of my photos? Is there any way I can stop this? I have a Nikon D3000 that I use it with and when the SD card is in the camera, its fine but when I put it into the computer it has doubles of everything. its really annoying having to delete every other photo when I upload 50+ photos. please help!

Is it worth buying the Sigma 70-300mm now or saving for a bit longer to get the Nikon 55-300mm?

Shutter lag problem with Nikon D5200?

I have observed that there is a small amount of shutter lag even when it is in auto mode. Also the burst shooting mode has been slow roughly 1-2 fps. The above problem of point 1 may be because of this shutter lag problem which do not allow me to focus smoothly for crisp shot. I am,using sandisk class 4 memory card. Is this happening because lower class cards and i use handheld more.

I re sized the image quality from large to small in both live view and view finder but, the fps remained same to 1-2 fps. Tried the experiment in automatic and macro mode in both manual and auto focus but the fps remained same. I am not able to understand what is the problem? [worried]

Which dslr can i get?

hi, i haven't owned a dslr yet, but i have taken good pics in mobile phone when i was studying and i was drifted away in work for 3 years,, i need to buy a dslr now. i have used my friend's Nikon 3200. it has good ergonomics. but many say canon is good. i will put my needs first and you could tell me what to get,,
I need to get different pics, learn about the lighting, aperture, iso.
whereas in Nikon i felt all pics were in same bright lighting, but in canon i noticed some different like the exact light what my eyes see i can get it in picture.
please tell me is that true or its my wrong notice.
next one,
i like to take pics on the move, either i move or the subject move.
and finally,
what makes really those two different, nikon and canon?
i am, a beginner, wanting to take different beautiful pictures, armature, but i am planning on doing high in photography, not just taking picture. but at the start i need more fun in photos than learning, so that i couldn't get bored.

Using a Nikon d5100 to film an interview? - 1

Hello there,
I'm a writer for a Toronto based music magazine (Raz Mataz Magazine), and I have an interview with a musician coming up tomorrow (Friday). I'd like to film the interview using my Nikon d5100 camera. Unfortunately it can only record about 20 minutes of video at a time. The interview itself is probably going to be at least an hour, and therein lies the rub. What can I do to film the whole thing, without having to stop the interview to restart the camera every 20 minutes?
Does anyone have any advice (and, no, "buy a better camera" isn't really an option for me)?

Nikon D40 will not focus when my flash isn't on?

I have a Nikon D4O that shoots just fine when the flash is on (I will talk about that in a sec) but when I put it on the setting where there isn't a flash the picture won't focus! It comes out blurry and it wont focus on anything. Also the sound when it clicks has a delayed click-click sound. (I'm not an advanced photographer I'm sorry). And when I try and take a picture of myself, the flash makes me look like a ghost! HELP PLEASE!

Camera extension tubes won't click?

I just purchased a set of Vello extension tubes for my Nikon D3200, and when I attempt to twist them onto the camera body they will not click into place. As a result, the camera tells me there is not a lens attached and I cannot take pictures.

Is there a fix to the tubes that I can do myself to make these work?

Which Nikon to upgrade to?

My fiance is using a D3100 right now and we're looking to upgrade. She photographs mostly children, new borns, toddlers, couples etc. She very rarely uses a studio, basically fields, trees, old buildings, barns etc. She has an 18-140mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm and whichever lens came w/ her D3100. My question is, which camera would be the most logical next step? D90, D5300, D7100? We'd like to stick with Nikon and have about $1,000 to spend, give or take a couple hundred. Nikon D3300 with Nikkor 85mm f/1.8d autofocus?

Hey guys,

So I'm getting the new D3300 because I just recently got into digital photography and was wondering if the 85mm 1.8d would be a good portrait lens?

I know it isn't AF-S, but that's where my question lies: Does the 1.8d not autofocus?
I've read everywhere that between the 1.8d and the 1.8g, you should opt for the 1.8g since it autofocuses.

I am confused on if I should get the 1.8d or not.

Best settings for photography, model specific. Samsung NX1100?

I have a Samsung NX1100 20.3mp with a kit lens 20-50mm f3.5-5.6 ED. I know I need more lenses to cover additional things like landscapes, macro, and varying portraits but I can't seem to find any help for my specific model. I also know it isn't the standard Cannon or Nikon so I hope the information is enough.

First, yes- I have checked my manual for settings and advice, and I have also tested varying settings for different things to experiment. Most people say f8 seems to be a good aperture for most things like portraits etc, like a sweet spot. But I would like to get more practice with this lens before taking the plunge for the 50-200mm etc which run around $300+ for this camera.

Second, I do look at tons of guides, blogs, and webinars when i can. It has helped me learn a lot. I would just really appreciate advice from people who have been photographers for a while on what the optimum settings would be for this camera specifically if possible.

The NX300 is the replacement for my camera, also I think the new NX30. I may purchase them at some point when I'm more comfortable with my current camera first. This is a link to the camera on walmart, which gives some more specs. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Samsung-20.3-MP-NX1100/24471469

What are some good beginner filmmaking cameras?

Hey everyone,

Me and my brother both go to school. I am a business major and he is a film major. Our goal once we graduate college in a year or so is to open up shop and become directors. We want to start making independent short films so we are looking for some good equipment. Currently we have the following:

Nikon D3200
Go Pro Hero 3+
Photoshop
After Effects
Sony Vegas

We would like to know if this is a good starting set up? We also want to get a new camera, one that is pretty cheep ($1,000) price limit. I have looked online but a lot of it is outdated. Will non-Ai lenses allow TTL auto flash metering on Nikon F4?

I have original non-Ai Nikkor 20mm f3.5 UD and 50mm f1.4 S Auto. When I tried auto TTL flash on Nikon F4 with SB-22S, it was not firing. But it was firing in Manual mode. The flash icon inside the viewfinder was blinking continuously when in Auto TTL mode. What would be the reason? Does non-Ai lenses not support TTL flash feature on Nikon F4?

Any tips for my first Boudoir Photo Shoot?

I am taking my first Boudoir shoot, next week. The location will be in a Hotel room around 5pm! The gear i will be taking will be my Nikon d3100, kit lens, 50mm 1.8, a Sigma 22-35mm 1.8 lens, a white umbrella with a speed light stand and a speed light of course. I do have wireless triggers! Any advice would be great! I think my main concern is lighting, i am still fairly new with using a speedlight and an umbrella, and it gets dark around 5:30 so i know i will be using my speed light eventually. I am so nervous i am going to mess up! I did explain to the girl i never done anything like this before, and i am still new to photography. Only been doing it for 2 years! ><

What settings work best for digital cameras when you take pics on Self-Timer?

Im not sure if its matter but Im using Canon G12 or Nikon D3100 when taking pics. Ive no problem taking pics in the regulare mode (no timer), but everytime I use the self timer the pics get so blurry when taking them on distant. Im going to start a blog about clothes (its a blog about outfits and wardrobe challenges) and I want my pics to be sharper without editing on pic-editing programs like photoshop (dont have that program anyway). So Im wondering:

Whats type of settings (P, M, No flash etc) gives best result when using the timer?
Just need the name of the settings (and search myself which icon/setting it could be) or a link to a website that wrote about the settings. Ive read the manuals but still lost. :S
Added (1). a pic example, Im used Nikon for this + the no-flash icon: -.- so blurry despite its a very good camera.
Added (2). Im not using a tripod, I put it on a shelf… LOL XD
Added (3). ah, its not for professional usage. Im just a noob with photography (self learning how to use it) and just want the details to be clearer so its easier to see all the elements in the outfit like this: its an hobby kind of blog (and I live in a OLD house. :P) .

Video and Audio Out Of Sync?!

Having issues with HD video outputting onto my computer?

So i have a Nikon P520 and it records up to full 1080HD video. This cameras like brand new, it was a gift for christmas. The SD card i use is a Sandisk Ultra 8GB. On my camera the video looks crisp and full HD. But once uploaded to my computer (its also a newer computer, less than a year old) it lessens the quality. Once put into a video editor, Windows Movie Maker, the quality decreases even more. By the time i am finished editing the final product is 480p, but i mean its a high quality 480. What could be decreasing the quality?

Pictures on my Nikon D3200 are saved in the wrong format?

ok, well i got a nikon D3200 digital camera for Christmas and i recently went to Bali and took over 600 photos on it, but i must have accidentally played around with the settings or something because the photo's dont cone up on my laptop, they come up as (for example) DSC_1041.NEF and when i try to open the file it says "an error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error code: 0x800736b1.

I have also looked at the photos on my camera and there are a few that i can access because i took them before i stupidly messed around with the settings, and they say in the bottom right corner NORMAL 6016x4000, but on the ones i cant access they say RAW 6016x4000.

It has to be the raw setting thats preventing them form coming up, so is there any way to switch the setting on the camera? or is it still possible to print the photos in this form? Preferably by not downloading a program that charges to convert them?

Please help i took a lot of tme taking these and i really with i could access them:(

i bought a nikon d5200 with 18-55mm kit lens recently, and i am having a problem adjusting the iso with the shutter speed fore example i want to shoot my cat running inside the house if i want the light the image comes too blurry and shaky, if i want the photo still, its quality is very bad, and when i use the flash its too slow and won't allow me to go higher than 200 in the shutter speed also the cat close its eyes and stop running… all i want is a still photos with a good light and have some quality. thanks;)

Good camera options?

I'm looking for a good camera for taking aviation shots and just general things I see around like nice landscapes etc. Pretty new to photograph so I want it to be relatively easy to use- just plug in by USB to the pc to transfer photos. I don't want the bottom-of-the-range option, but wouldn't want to pay much more than £350. I really want a great zoom to snap things far away and just generally very clear HD quality shots. Nikon D3200: Buy now or wait for price to drop further?

I am looking forward to buy my first DSLR and I have set my eyes on Nikon D3200. Well, we all know D3300 is announced and will be released on Feb 6, but I am not planning to get the newer model.

The price of D3200 (since November) has been around $500 ~ $530. I just got my 2013 bonus check and it is just enough to buy my a new camera. So, I am wondering if I should get it now.

Based on experience, is $500 as low as it can get within 2014 Q1? Will the price drop further within the next 2~8 weeks after D3300 is officially hit the market?

(I don't want to cry when the price drop to $450 3 days after I purchase the camera.)

Uploading high quality videos to YouTube?

Okay, so my friend and I have a YouTube channel (Tortia AndSalsa) and I record with my Nikon camera. It's a awesome camera that takes great pictures and pretty great video too! But what I have noticed is that the quality that gets uploaded to YouTube is completely different then the quality of the original video that I have on my computer… is there anything to do to fix this?! I know this is probably the opposite of what most people want, but I want my pictures to be a bit darker and have this kind of noise/graininess. Why does my flash not work?!

I just bought a flash for my Nikon and the radio flash connectors. my flash is on the stand with the umbrella, the radio connectors are on the same channel. What is better: a video camera or DSLR?

I'm looking at buying either the Nikon D3200, canon t3i, or a video camera. I would mainly use to take videos. Although still shots would be nice too.

I've read lots of opinions on this question. Most people have said that a DSLR is the new way to film videos. Apparently they give a more professional look and give you more options. I'm wondering if there are any specific advantages a DSLR has over a video camera or vice versa.

Any other HD video cameras or DSLRs to consider besides the two mentioned above. Also, if I got a DSLR or a video camera, would a plug in audio mic be a good idea? Thanks!

I'm curious to know if products sold in Europe (and other non-US countries too) are sold with power cords for the region in which they are sold. What do I compress.mov H.264 codec files to for use in Avid Media Composer?

I'm used to Final Cut and new to Avid. I shot on a Nikon D5100 that creates video files that are.mov with H.264, Linear PCM codecs. I'm using Compressor and had always compressed these files to Apple ProRes for Final Cut…should I do the same for Avid/should I just leave them alone/or how do I transfer to Avid DNxHD codec in Compressor? How to price beginner photography?

Hey everyone, Im a 21 year old beginner photography but i've been taking photos since I was younger just not professionally. I've had my nikon for about 3 months now and I have been making some money doing portraits for people with basic internet knowledge which is great because i catch on fairly well. The independent photography life is fine but I really need help with pricing my services. Thats something i'm not too good at. I feel like my talent is worth more then what I charge but I don't want to over do it. I do events, family portraits, cherished items and more. What do you guys thing of my work? and any advice on pricing would be truly appreciated, some examples of your own pricing is as well and tips thank you

Can I sue the TSA/US Airways?

I haven't traveled many times, and I stupidly put my Nikon D40 camera in my luggage last month on vacation. Obviously this was dumb, but they are still technically expected to leave belongings in people's luggage.

Anyways, of course it was gone when I retrieved my luggage, and a TSA slip was in my bag. I reported the incident to the TSA who said, according to their videos, they only had my baggage for one moment and didn't open the pocket my camera was in. Of course, they're refusing to let me see a copy of the video and are saying to blame the airline

The airline is "Looking into it" and said they'd contact me "if they found the camera." They then told me not to contact them further as there was no reason to. Obviously they're never contacting me again and are full of crap

I realize this was my mistake, like I said I've hardly traveled. But I still refuse to let this happen and will sue the airline/TSA if necessary

What should I do? Anyone else have experience with this?

My HD video won't upload to youtube?

So, I took a video with my Nikon d7100, which is very good quality. Then, I edited the video with iMovie. Now, when I try to upload the video to youtube, it says that an error occurred. What I don't understand is that it makes me wait 25-30 minutes before telling me that it won't upload. Can somebody tell me how to fix this? Thank you!

Which lenses should I bring to Thailand?

I'll be hiking, biking and kayaking throughout Thailand for 2 weeks next month. I'm an amateur photographer with a Nikon D5100 and 4 lenses:

- The kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5)
- A telephoto (55-300mm f/4.5)
- A wide-angle (10-20mm f/4)
- A prime (35mm f/1.8)

Of course, I want to take them all but that's a lot of gear to lug around for 2 weeks. I'm leaning toward just taking the prime and the telephoto. I love my wide angle and I'd miss it, but it is a bit bulky and quite heavy.

Astrophotography tips for a beginner? is it me or my out of date camera?

Beginner here, I've been getting into photography over the past 8 or 9 months or so. Recently tried my hand at photographing the stars and have had mixed results. I'm using a nikon D50. I've been experimenting with my 18-55 lens and have had bad results. With my 50 mm prime lens I get decent shots. I'm shooting from a tripod, I use a 2 second timer to reduce camera shake, I've varied from f5.6 to f1.8, 200 iso to reduce noise, and shutter speed anywhere between 10-25 seconds. I think my white balance set to direct sunlight has done the best. I can take several shots using same settings, some blur and some don't. I've removed the filter in hopes to reduce any glare. Any tips? How do I get good photos of the stars? I'm also interested in trying this with my 35 mm slr if anyone has any additional info. Thanks.

Is it better to get the 18-200 mm lens instead of the standard 18-55? Nikon?

For nature/pet photography.

I'm trying to get closer pics of my pets as well as nature and it seems 18-55 mm isn't as sharp as i would like it to be.

My question is the 18-200 better all around? If so, do ALL nikon lens fit for all nikon DSLRs? I have a D3200. Also I'm not sure why the pricing range is so different. Ranging prices for 500-800$ new but different "f " which I'm not sure what it means yet.

Will Nikon SB-28DX work in ITTL mode with D600?

Hi and thanks in advance for you help.

I am looking at buying a cheap new or second hand flash for my camera Nikon D600. I am new to flash photography and am not looking at spending allot till I get used to it and lean the basics.

I have a friend who is offering me his Nikon SB-28DX for only £50 but my question is there any limitations against or advantages for using this flash on my D600 and does the ITTL work or is it even important. I like doing portrait photography so I want to make sure it's ok.

Can you make a living with a crop sensor DSLR?

I have been an amatuer photographer for years and I've decided to try to go professional. I have been shooting great pictures with my Nikon D7000 and have accumulated a huge collection of great DX lenses. I have the funds right now to upgrade my body. I can afford the D7100 and I really like it, however I am concerned I won't be taken seriously with a crop sensor camera. I could probably afford the full frame D610, but is it worth selling off all my DX gear to get the much more expensive FX lenses? Can a professional photographer be succesful and taken seriously with a crop sensor camera?

Is a Nikon d90 worth buying when I already have a d40?

I currently have a Nikon d40 with 3 lenses: 18-55mm, 28-70mm, and a 70-300mm. Recently someone suggested that I should get a d90, as they are apparently much better.Is this true? Also, will the lenses I currently have work with the d90? (the lens diameter of the d40 is 52mm) Mainly I want to ask if the d90 is worth paying the extra several hundred pounds for, when I already have a perfectly good D-SLR.
As a subtext, I would also like to ask about filters.Do they make a difference? And how do you even attach them to the camera?

How to change aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure on a Nikon D40?

I am a new photography student and just got my first DSLR camera. I already finished a semester of Digital Photography class, and we learned nothing about any of the things I mentioned in my question. But those seem to be the 4 basic principles of photography from what I have been reading online. I can't figure out how to change them on my camera at all. Could someone please tell me step by step (including what buttons to press and everything) for each thing? I am so confused. Did I damage my focus motor? Newbie here. Nikon d7000?

Hey guys so I want to begin by saying I am totally new to DSLR photography.

When I first received my Nikon d7000 a couple days ago I latched on my 50mm f/1.8d lens. I didn't even know pressing the shutter button halfway down focused. So what I did for my first probably 10-15 shots the first hour I got my camera was I manually focused the lens by moving the lens focus ring then I would take the picture. All of this while my Autofocus was set to on. Now I realized my mistake relatively quickly and started only using the autofocus function. I didn't notice any problems but I read online the following day that that is a huge no-no. Especially with a lens like a 50mm f/1.8d because it uses the d7000 internal focus motor. I got scared when I saw posts saying that the internal motor has got to be damage/stripped/whatever.

However, when I was manually focusing it I didn't experience any hard resistance like other people talked about. Was it because I wasn't pressing the shutter button? Just manually focusing and then pressing to take the picture.

I would just like to here some more opinions on if my focus motor is probably damaged or not. What are some of the signs I should look for if it is?

I also have a Tamrom 70-300 vc and on some pictures it won't focus and take the picture. Is that a case by case basis and the camera settings or could it be linked to what I described above?

How much can I sell all this canon stuff for?

I've decided to switch to Nikon. Because Canon really disappointed. My 7d had to get repaired 3 times, focusing issue, program issue and something inside of it had to be replaced too. Had issues since day one that I bought it. Though it works now becasue it's been to the Canon factory three times and even though it works, I never want a canon again. I treated it very nicely and never dropped it or anything like that.

This is what I have:

Canon 7d
50mm lens
55-250 lens
battery
16 g extreme
8g extreme
Canon 450 ex 11

My 7d is barely used, because some of the repairs took like a month almost each. I will disclose that its been to the repair shop.
Added (1). Well I bought it new from amazon, and it had little problems at first then crocked totally like a month after. Yes I've heard how great it is but I'm sick of it. I had photography classess, and it was hard to go a month at a time without a camera for school. And my photo buddies all have nikons so we can borrow each others gear. Lol they always said it'd be bettter if I was a nikon. I still have the check and the box for this stuff too.
Added (2). I asked canon to get a different one, but they said they can repair instead. I only had the manfancture warrenty and that warrenty ended in 2013.

Good upgrade from bridge camera?

Would a nikon d7100 or d5300 be good.

The only features i feel would benefit me on the D7100 is the weather sealing, dedicated ISO button, and the better viewfinder.

Oh and by the way don't say that these cameras are "too advance" for me, I know the fundamentals of photography and could easily operate and use both of these cameras. I'm simply asking if its worth the extra money from people with experience.

How much should I charge for taking pictures?

I'm not a professional, but I know what I'm doing and that I do good work. I've been contacted by quite a few people to take pictures for them. (Weddings, Couples, Children, Senior pictures) But I'm not sure what I should charge and I don't want to over charge because like I said, I'm not a professional, but I want to be able to grow as a photographer.

Also, I have a Nikon D3100 if that matters at all.
Added (1). I'm pretty sure I don't need "a business license, a tax ID, and good liability insurance" for something that is a hobby and not a main source of income. Especially since the money I'd get would be used mainly for printing the images.

I'm 15 and I'm thinking of going into photography but first I need to get a good camera because right now I only have a small digital carry around nikon (12 megapixels).
I'd like to get a good Canon but I can only afford up to max 500 dollars. Also could someone explain the importance of megapixels? because I know that they affect the quality of the pictures but is that all? I have a NIKON D5100. I'm going to New York soon and was just wondering what are you're favourite lenses to take.
I'll be shooting street art and skyline (obviously).
Would you recommend the Nikon 50 mm f 1.8 for street photography?

I currently own the 18-55mm, 50mm f1.8 and the 55-300mm, all by Nikon.

I am able to purchase new lenses up to $250, so if you have any other lens suggestions from Nikon, tamron or sigma, that would also be fine.

How to get that blurry background and shark subject effect?

I have a Nikon D7000 SLR. I have its original lens: 18-105mm and I want to capture that effect where the background is blurry and the subject is focused and sharp! How do I do that? please tell me everything I need to do from iso and etc., I want all photos to be this way, so how do I change that? Should I also invest in a 50mm lens? I heard that was the best buy. Prime lens for NIKON to match my needs?

I purchased a Nikon D5100 a few months ago and I am slowly learning about it. I have a basic understanding of aperture, iso, shutter speed, etc. I have the kit lens and it came with an additional (telephoto?) lens as well. I adore my second lens (I'm sorry! I cant remember what it is exactly…still learning!) but I have to stand too far away. I am not a professional and would rather leave the serious stuff to the professionals. I mostly do portraits of my family and some personal events. What I am looking for is honest advice on a good lens that will serve my purposes. I want something that can take attractive portraits and yet be general enough I will not have to change out my lens constantly. Since my photography is for personal use, I cannot justify spending thousands on equipment. I am hoping to find something that will let me achieve a nice bokeh without having to stand in the other room. Also, and not sure if this is even possible, I am looking for something that will work well in low-light so I do not have to use the flash. Since most of what I photograph is candid shots or children, a slightly quicker lens would be appreciated.

For example, I want to take nice photos of my niece and nephews birthdays with a few crisp portraits I can frame for personal display. I also attend fundraisers for work, anniversary parties…etc and want to take nice photos that are dimly lit indoors without blinding everyone with flash.

If there is not a lens that is affordable ($500 or less range) I understand! I just am not sure what equipment I would benefit from the most to add to my arsenal.

I can't see or read out of my new glasses?

I just got new glasses, same power as my old ones and I can't read or barely see out of them. I see and read better without them on. What is the deal? My powers haven't changed according to my doctor, so why are these glasses worst then my old ones? My old ones were plastic lenses and my new ones are the Nikon lenses. I'm only 18 years old.

Is the nikon D7100 worth it over the D5300?

Would I be better getting the nikon D7100 18 - 140mm kit and a 50mm f1.8 or a D5300 with 18 - 55mm kit, 50mm f1.4 and a 24 - 85mm f3.5 - 4.5G. The main thing on the D7100 is the weather sealing for me. Can the D5300 survive a rain shower? Also is the image quality equal on both cameras. Oh and by the way I know there FX lenses on a DX camera but they will be worth getting for new cameras I get in the future.

Which Nikon Lens to buy next?

I am a serious amateur photographer and need some help deciding which Nikon lens to buy next. I currently have a Nikon D700 camera body and have accumulated 3 lenses: Nikon 50mm1:1.4G, Nikon 80-400mm 1:4.5-5.6D, Nikon 105mm 1:2.8 macro. I started and still primarily use the macro lens for shooting picture in the operating room. Its great for that. I now want a more versatile lens for vacation trips and traveling. Its very hard to change the 3 current lenses I have and the 80-400mm lens although great for telephoto is ungodly heavy when traveling. Are there one or two lenses that one of you experts can recommend to me for traveling purposes? This would be all around photography and I just want something that beats one of those "all in one" digital models. Thanks for any help! Mike

Good Camera for Photography Student?

Hello:)

I'm looking for a new camera, but I'm having difficulty choosing between Canon and Nikon. I've done a fair bit of research on both but I can't make up my mind, so I need some input.

I'm going into university to study photography. Right now I attend an arts high school and have been doing photography for quite some time so I'm ahead of most people my age. I've been using a Sony A33 for the last 3 years but the image quality has gotten very noisy and blurry (maybe I haven't maintained it right? If anyone sees a solution to this then please let me know), so I've figured I should upgrade. I'd like my new camera to last me throughout university or longer.

Canon? Nikon? Pentax? Something?

So, for my graduation present (which I have a $700 limit on), I want to get a nice camera, as I've always been into photography, and as I've been learning more and more about the technicalities of it, the more eager I am to have my own that is of good quality.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what would be a good idea to look into. I'm not looking for a universally "oh this one is the best" kind of answer, but more… recommendations? I just want an idea of a few cameras to look at, rather than every single one within that price range out there. Am I making sense?

I'm just sick of my sister insisting "ugh Nikons are horrible, get a Canon," when I know there are other alternatives, too.

What would be a good brand to look into, you think? And if you have any ideas for a specific camera (as I'm a beginner), that'd be much appreciated, too!

I have Meade Solaris telescope and want to adapt to a Nikon d3200 does anyone know?

Meade Solaris is probably old technology was given as a gift in 2005. Now I want to attach a Nikon dslr d3200 and don't know how? Does anybody know?

Should image quality numbers dissuade me from buying a camera?

all of the numbers given to a camera can make choosing one to fork over big money very confusing and daunting

example: several sites give the vaunted Canon 70D only a 68 in terms of image quality, lagging behind the Nikon D7100's 83.

even some mirrorless models scored better

so, is the image quality of that camera lacking?

how do you evaluate which one to buy with so much differing info?

Is the nikon D5300 weather sealed?

If so how weather sealed is it. If it is not weather sealed how much water can it take without breaking.
Added (1). Also it may seem a stupid question but is the 18 - 140 mm lens FX or DX.

Looking at nikon dslr's, which is best a novice?

My husband has some lenses he inherited, which is why I'm looking at Nikon. I'm not a beginner, but a novice, with hopes to get better. I want one with full control and have been looking at the D5100 and d5200. I am undecided.

Lens badly packed - should I seek to return?

I bought a Nikon 35mm f1.8g lens from a reputable camera store. The lens was new - so it came in its original box. However, there was nothing else to protect it. The seller just placed it in the small parcel - no protection like bubblewrap or plastic popcorn whatsoever. Could this have caused damage to the lens. I have tried it and it seems to work okay, but I can't tell if something hasn't been shaken up inside?
Added (1). I should say the box has been damages slightly - there is a hole in it.

Camera setting when attached to a telescope?

When I attach a Nikon d40 to a Celestron NexStar 4SE using the t-ring for a Nikon (93402) and the t-adapter (93635-A), it seems to fit properly. But when I press the button for a picture, it says no lens is attached. Is there some special camera setting to use?

Good Nikon Camera For Action Shots?

I love taking pictures and I'm also a horseback rider and would like to take pictures at my shows. I would like to upgrade from my Kodak EasyShare to a Nikon. My friend has one and it takes beautiful pictures. But I would like one that takes really good action shots that come out crystal clear. Should I just get a normal Nikon and buy a separate lense for it?

Also, I want a camera that can zoom really far and take clear shots. Does Nikon have a camera with both of these features?

Black pictures with my new Nikon D3100?

I just bought a refurbished Nikon D3100 and I took it out of the box, put the lens on and tried to take a test picture, and the picture is coming out black… It looked fine through the viewfinder, the lens cap is off, it's on auto (I know exposure levels etc enough to know that it's not just under exposed), and the screen works (the info shows up before I take the picture and at the bottom of the screen when I'm reviewing them)
I tried switching my lens to another one, and it's definitely a problem with the camera!
Is it something I'm not doing, or is it just a manufacturer's error? Please help!!! Thanks :)
