How to turn off the grid on the Nikon D3100?

I turned off my camera then i turned it back on and there was a grid there. Anyone know how to get if off?

The Nikon D3100 is on sale right now, and there is a version with and without the VR objective(on the picture).. The thing is, there is no difference in the text below the camera.

So what is the VR objective?

And should I buy that? (Costs 20$ more)

Good camera to start with?

I'm currently using a canon powershot S3 IS and it's nice but I have to share it with my mother. While she doesn't use it as much as I do it'd be nice to have my own camera. I've got a fair amount of experience with this camera so I think I might able to handle something more advanced. Any suggestions under $700, preferably either canon or nikon?

How to turn NEF files into JPEG files?

I have a D3100 Nikon camera that I just got and had taken almost 900 pictures on the memory card that I have and downloaded them all onto my computer. I'm trying to upload them to walgreens.com but it wont upload the NEF filed pictures. How do I change the format of these NEF files into JPEG files? It seems like the NEF files are like 4 times bigger than the JPEG ones and I just don't get it.It's getting quite frustrating.

Is the Canon 7D a big enough upgrade from the Nikon D90?

I just got my D90 almost 6 months ago, but now this amazing offer for a 7D comes along. I'm not sold on either Nikon or Canon… I have honestly never tried out a Canon, but I kept thinking maybe the next time I ungraded it would be a Canon. Sooooo, what I'm wondering is, is it worth it to upgrade to the 7D, or should I wait a few years, then upgrade to say, the Canon EOS-1D X, or something of the sort?

Transferring DSLR memory card to another?

From my friend's SD card, I transferred our school project's videos and photos to my own SD card, it was successfully copied but when I inserted my memory card back to my Canon DSLR and scanned the files, only the photos can be seen not the videos. Though when I connect the memory card to the computer I can see the videos saved in the SD card.

What can I do? I need to have a copy of the videos, I should be able to watch the videos in my camera.

P.S
If this helps, my friend owns a Nikon and I own a Canon, I transferred the files from her Nikon's memory card to my Canon's.

Camera body or Lens problem?

I have Nikon D5100 with 50mm prime and 18-105 VR lens. Whenever I take a picture, the subject (my girlfriend who has long legs, slim) looks short or sometimes she looks normal.Is it because of the focus point. Are there any reference point where the picture will look lean and slim. Or should I just switch to full frame camera.

I dropped my AF-S DX NIKKOR G VR 18-55mm lens. Is it worth it to get it repaired?

When I attach the lens to my camera, it is open/not attached on the one side. The lens only focuses when zoomed in, and even then only focuses the one side of the image. When I shake it gently, I can hear a rattling, and when it's autofocusing it makes a crunching noise.

Should I just buy a new lens, or would it be worth it/cheaper to get it repaired?

Cf and sd card in d300s?

Hello all, I am planning on setting up my nikon d300s with raw+jpg basic.My idea would be to have both cf and sd cards in the camera at the same time and save the raw file to the cf card and the jpg to a eye-fi sd card. This way i can have my laptop open and see the jpg pics right away on my laptop as i take the pics and have the raw copied to the cf card for later downloading. I would delete the jpg and only keep the raws. The jpgs is just so that i can preview the images right away on my laptop screen. Does anyone see a problem with this setup? Would the buffer clear slower in my camera cause it has to write 2 images to 2 different cards? thanks

How to get better photos with my Nikon D3100?

I have a lot of trouble getting nice sharp photos with my camera. Auto focus works for still objects usually, but isn't quite as precise as I would like.My biggest issue is with action shots though. I take photos of horseback riding, especially jumping.It is very hard to get photos right as the horse leaves the ground, so I often focus on the jump and wait for the horse to get closer. This works great on my parent's digital camera, but I haven't yet figured out all of the details of my new SLR.My photos often turn out blurry, unfocused, or dull and dark. What are the best settings for my camera when taking these kind of action shots, and how do I set them? Thank you to anyone who can help me1

Signs of a damaged camera mirror?

Ok I cleaned my dslr mirror with a special pen provided by nikon which supposedly is suppose to clean my mirror properly. However, my friends told me that I must NEVER touch the mirror.So I went home to check out my camera and looked through the viewfinder and luckily, didn't see any scratches or smudges. However im afraid I have damaged my mirror somehow. Can someone tell me what are ways and the signs and symptoms I can use to identify damage on my dslr mirror

Can i use Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D Lens on Nikon D5100?

As we know Af lens don't have autofocus, it depends on DSLR body but D5100 didn't have autofocus motor.So, it is possible to use Af lens on D5100.
Will it be really to tough to focus manually.
My budget is tight, that's why i am going for AF not AF-S.

How to identify damage on my dslr mirror?

Im being paranoid here. I read about cameras having coating on their mirrors and that touching the mirror would cause permanent damage.So how do I go about identifying any damage to my mirror. Wheb I look through the viewfinder, it's clear and theres no smudge or scratches. But how can I identify hidden damages??? Btw, im using nikon d5200

I have never had a photoshoot done but it seems quite expensive. Price includes makeover. I have seen one shoot for £95 and plus the price you have to pay for photos. EXPENSIVE.Is it better just to buy a camera? We have a Nikon D90.

How to keep lens from fogging up and how to clean it (nikon DSLR)?

My room is really cold (military base so I have no control over room temp and no idea how cold it is in here) but the weather outside is usually really humid and warm. I stepped outside today and soon noticed I couldn't take pictures b/c of foggy lens.
The condensation cleared up on it's own soon after I came back inside but i'm worried that this will eventually damage my camera/lens and would like to know how to prevent this problem in the future.
This is my first owned digital camera and I plan on buying a camera bag eventually. Will the camera bag help?
Added (1). I forgot to mention the fog was inside the lens where I would need to take the lens apart to clean it myself. Not sure if that info is something you will need to know.

My camera is set to 400 film speed but my film is 200?

It's a Nikon FM2 - and due to its age, it's difficult to change the ISO settings [the dial is broken in someway, the last owner put sellotape across it and I don't want to remove it for fearing of something falling off]. If I use the 200 ISO film, will it turn out alright, or should I try and fix the ISO setting on the camera?

What are some good software programmes for improving your photos?

I had a Nikon camera from 2008 to 2012 and it was really good but sometimes photos came out too dark and other times the colour of photos came out too pale. What software can you recommend to help fix this? I'd prefer something that would automatically fix the photos. And I don't mind paying if it's very good (but I'm not up for paying subscriptions, I just want a once off payment).

Hello, I am 14, and I love photography. I currently have an older fujifilm Bridge camera (not point and shoot, but not DSLR either) so I'm going to buy a Nikon D3100. Anywho, I have seen art shows where people around my age are selling their photos for like 200-300 dollars! Good air rifle setup for $600?

Hello everyone. I am looking for an air rifle (I've had experience with them in the past, so I'm not new to airguns) that is PCP, as breakbarrels bore me. I have $600 to spend, and SO FAR all I can find that is good quality is the Benjamin Marauder. That is $485 just for the gun, which really gives me no money left. After the gun, a Nikon scope would suit it. But after the scope, I have no money left. I would still have to buy a HPA tank and all that other stuff that goes with it (not to mention gas money to drive to a scuba shop for a refill).So my question is: what is a good air rifle that is PCP that I could spend my money on and still have money left over to buy a scope and a HPA tank (pumps dont fill the gun up completely, therefore I dont get as much power)?

Hi guys, I am a teenager from Singapore and i'm starting to take photos more and more often as it really captures memories that may not be remembered as time pass by. Little problem with my Nikon D3100?

The little flap that covers the USB port doesnt close anymore. If you click the link above you can see it. If I try to jam it in there it just pops back out. I heard that rubber expands in heat so I was wondering if that was the problem. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it? I thought about cutting it a little but I want to sell this camera when I upgrade.

Nikon d3000 not auto focusing help!

Hi guys so a couple of days ago a friend borrowed my camera that i have only had for about a year and dropped it.the problem is that now it doesnt auto focus when you go to take the picture the lens keeps going in and out of focus and just wont take at all unless i press the key lock button but even then the photos are out of focus and i am unsure what to do as i do not have a lot of money to buy a new one or go to a specialist shop and im in my final year of a level photography so i need to fix it asap. How to disable my Nikon microphone while using an external (Azden) Microphone?

I wanted to start a youtube channel so I invested in a Nikon D3200 with an external Microphone (Azden ) after recording a few shoots I noticed that there is this really loud and disturbing scrunchy background sound coming from the recording of my Camera's Microphone.

tl;dr: I'd like to disable my Camera's microphone while my external microphone is plugged and recording, how can I do that?

Yes me and my friend thought it was from the Azden mic at first and tried to fix it but after days of work we finally found out that the problem was the Camera itself that records some weird background noise (it sounds like the wind is blowing on the camera)

What kind of camera should i use for photography business?

Right now I have a nikon d3000, and i have alot of different types of lenses for it.i'm kind of a lens hoarder i bought a bunch of different kinds, but what i need to know exactly is what type of camera should i use? i know mine isn't top notch and if anyone thinks i could make it work (to start out) then which lenses would i need? i'm interested in doing all different types including wedding, engagement, portraits, children, newborns, and even pets.

I don't know what each lens is called that I have so if you can leave a answer with the lenses that I would need I can look in my awkwardly big bag and see what I have… lol (:

I need settings help with my Nikon D3100 DSLR camera?

I have a Nikon D3100 DSLR 18-55mm VR KIT AF-S DX nikkor f/3.5-5.6G camera and i am wanting to take videos and photos of fireworks and would like to know the correct settings i have only had the camera 7 months so still getting use to it I also want to know the settings for filming and photoing the Illuminations along Blackpools coast as some lights come out like white light instead of the actual thing i am taking.

I need to know as much as i can as i am an amature photographer and want the best for my business and clients so if you can help me that would be great.

some other details

its has 3.5mp 8mp 14mp settings and built in flash it has auto programme sports portrait aperture and shutter speed settings and maual hope i have given you enough info oh and i am using a SDHC 4 class card at 4GB per card and have 3 of them.

Should I start charging for pictures?

I've been taking photographic pictures since 8th grade and I am now a freshman in college (just turned 18 btw). Of course I am still learning and I believe I have so much more to work on/grow. Well, I have a nikon d5100 w/ stock lenses and had it well over a year now after saving up; I've wanted a dslr since Christmas in grade school. I've been taking pictures of family and friends for free till yesterday I felt comfortable charging, a few family members & friend insisted. Well I just got a 50mm lense as a birthday present and shot a couple pics with it and I love it, I think it's great for portraits now.So I asked for $40 from two friends since they offered to pay. I just have two lenses, few memory cards, camera bag and thats allI. I also spend alot of time on photoshop/Lightroom too.Im really critical on myself and my work so ive never had the guts to charge or anything like that. I want the true opinons of people outside my immediate friends and family members (idk if they're just telling me what they want to hear). With a whole bunch of pictures I've taken over the years I've finally created a portfolio. Can anyone please give me some opinions on my pictures and skills? And should I start charging? Can you have a DSLR refurbished?

I have had mine (a Nikon D5000) for 3or 4 years now, since it first came out.It was my first camera of this type and to be fair I haven't treated it as well as I should have.It still works ok, but the piece of rubber round the viewfinder is broken, and I am just worried that the bits and bobs inside could do with being tightened up, or cleaned- can that be done? I also need a new lens cap.
If so how, where, how much?
Added (1). Oh and a couple of tiny screws on it look bit rusty now.

Ar-15 scope rings and turkey hunting?

I want to replace the scope rings i have on my ar, i have a front sight post and a nikon p223 with ncstar rings.i want the rings to be repeatable because to change my handguard i have to take the scope off. I dont want some crazy expensive rings that is worth more than the scope and rifle combined.

now for the turkey hunting question. I hunt in north mississippi and i was on the fish and wild life website and i couldnt find out if i needed a plug in my shotgun to turkey hunt. only thing i found was shot size restriction. reason i ask is because i took my plug out to compete. I have a remmy 1100 with a 2 3/4" chamber, and i was wondering if anyone had any turkey shell recomendations?

Save for mirrorless, or continue investing in dslrs (Photographers?)?

I'm a little conflicted. I don't know whether i should stop buying lenses/equipment for my dslr. I'm a pro photog. Although it's a little side job and not a full time thing, i'm still worried about the change and what the future will hold for me.

I know right now mirrorless isn't even there yet. Maybe 2-3 years it'll really becomes the standard. I also heard about some photogs who have switched to mirrorless. But i don't think that being a pro photog with a mirrorless is really even possible to pull off right now.

I guess i just want some of your own opinions. Have you considered cutting equipment upgrades and stuff and started to save/sell for mirrorless?

I use canon. I also assume that because it is a new format, that it's not possible to even use dslr lenses without an adapter… so why even buy more lenses and be screwed over(to put it bluntly) and have to start over again. Compared to slr where it was very similar to dslr, and nikon being able to use the film lenses… it just won't be possible this time around imo.

How are you handling all this?

I guess the main reason i'm worried is, i would like to buy a nice $800~ lens but at the same time, maybe buy a Fuji XPro2 (if it comes out in 2014) for a second body upgrade.As well as to use for travel purposes to be discreet etc. The lens is a lot of money for something that might not last too long…

Slight water damage to my camera?

I have a nikon d3100 and I was out shooting pictures of waves (my camera isn't waterproof) and an unexpected wave came up and splashed my camera. I took it out and dried it off thinking it wasn't that bad. Later there was fog under the screen and when I took a picture it was overexposed (I am positive I had my exposure correct) I had the sb400 flash and kit lens attached. I removed the battery, sd card, lens and flash until I got home then placed it in rice. Should I take it to a camera repair place for inspection or do you think it will be fine?

Nikon SLR- suggestions on a good lens for a beginner?

I see this part of Y! A doesn't get much traffic, but I'm hoping someone can help with a few questions of mine- any kind of suggestions/recommendations are welcomed!

I'm looking to upgrade from my basic digital camera to entry level SLR, but I'm still very clueless when it comes to all the lenses out there. I don't have a particular field I'm interested in shooting in right now, so I'm looking for a versatile lens that can handle a little of everything; from landscape, maco, action, ect. I feel I'll mostly be working with action-y type scenes with animals, but it has to hold up with day to day activities.

After talking with some other SLR savy people / professionals, prime lenses seem to have better quality to them, right? Would a prime be an alright choice for a beginner? The lens I'm looking at is this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-35mm-1-8G-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001S2PPT0

In the upcoming months, I'm planning on buying a refurbished Nikon D3200 body and buying a decent lens separately- it will probably be my only lens for a while (a year+), so like I mentioned before, it'll have to hold up with a bit of everything until I can invest more on lenses. Keep in mind, I'm only a beginner with all of this and I'm on a budget ($800 max, $600/$700 would be better!)

Added (1). I forgot to add, how do you tell the difference between a zoom and prime lens? When I'm looking online at lenses, nothing jumps out at me if they're zoom or prime. I don't to accidently buy a zoom when I want a prime (and vice versa), but the descriptions in the lens don't even have it posted. Say a lens is 35mm and another is 15mm-55mm (for example), the 35mm is a fixed length and the 15mm-55mm is zoom?

Getting images into Gimp?

About 4 years ago I finally got into digital photography, and was able to use Photoshop in the local Camera Club. However, since then I have moved to another town where there is no camera club, but have downloaded Gimp instead. Unfortunately, the last 4 years have been a bit of a nightmare so that I have spent more time in hospital than I have outside and have had 7 operations. The outcome is that when I started reading a book on Gimp that I bought, it started off by saying they assumed that the user knew how to import images to Gimp from a file. But it's been so long that I can't remember how to do that. If it's any help, my camera is a Nikon D5100 so that I can download images directly from the camera, or I could use HP Photosmart, but for the life of me I can't remember how to get an image into Gimp (or Photoshop for that matter). Can anybody help ?

Which DSLR Camera is best?

I love taking photos and I thought I'd love to get a DSLR camera as I feel the regular point and shoot compact cameras have had their day for me and I want something a bit more 'advanced'. I am a complete beginner with the DSLR cameras so have been looking for a nice user friendly step up. Buying my first dsl.?

I'm buying my first dslr, but I can't decide on the brand or class of the camera.
Canon, nikon or pentax? I'm considering buying few extra lenses too.
Canon 650d (or 60d) vs Nikon d5200 (or d7000) vs Pentax k-30 (or k-5)?
I am on a tight budget, in Croatia (Europe) I can get 650d for 600 dollars, k-30 and d5200 for 850$ (kit lens). I really like pentax but their lenses seem expensive and they are rare in second hand shops. Canon is the cheapest and I've seen some of my friends using it, but nikon and pentax on reviews have better IQ.
I enjoy taking portraits and landscapes, and blured backround bokeh that I cant get on my nikon bridge camera so I think that dslr is right thing to buy. Help me!

Buying my first DSLR and kit?

Ok so I'm going to finally buy a DSLR, so Its actually a couple of questions in one,
1 - some good online uk sites to buy, so I can compare, there's no shops where I live so going to have to buy one blind so to speak, so -
2 - recommendations, - I know that everyone has very different opinions so I'll narrow it down a bit, I'd prefer Nikon or canon and I'm looking at up to max of £1000, (for both camera and lens) poss more for accessories. I'd like to be able to get both a good compatible telephoto zoom with IS and decent macro lens along side.plus all the good things u'd want on a DSLR
3 - what other kit items are 'indispensible' for general use and macro, ie filters, flash, ect.
4 - anything anyone thinks I might have forgotten to mention.

Aperture Nikon d3200 Error?

I bought a Nikon Nikkor AF 35-135mm F/3.5-4.5 AF Lens some weeks ago, but i haven't tried it until now because i have one just like it, but when i turn on the camera + the newest lens it says "Lock lens aperture ring at minimum aperture (largest F-number)" even tho i have locked it in the largest F-number! and it works perfectly with the other identical lens i have!

I want to be a photographer but so does everyone else?

My ultimate dream is work for magazines like The Rolling Stone. I had a photographer teacher that said her first job was taking pictures of bands as they were on stage. That's what I'd love to do because I also love music.
I can tell you anything you want to know about any rock band/artist.

My mom was a photographer, so it's always been something I wanted to do. Not because of her, but I've always been around it and cameras.

I'm even "dropping out" (homeschool) so I can get a job and save up for a professional camera. I have a Nikon D3100 right now. I want a D3X and eventually I want to switch to film.
I take photography classes over the summer as well, and I'm trying to get to go to a month long summer program at a college.

But I'm having anxiety because it seems like EVERYONE wants to be a photographer. Everyone my age posts pictures on tumblr and flickr and they're all photo majors in college or planning to be.

In a way it annoys me because they're all looking to take "pretty pictures"… not necessarily something that has meaning.

Last year at the summer thing, our teacher asked us what photographer inspires us and none of the other kids had a favorite photographer. They didn't even know any other photographers… they're all egocentric.

Do I have a right to worry about finding a job and doing what I love?

This is for dental school, so I'll be taking pictures of peoples mouths and teeth. Since I'm getting a DSLR camera I would probably like to take some nice pictures of scenery and people living life every now and then.

I would like to spend less than 600 on the body. People have suggested to me to buy the Canon SL1 but I've also heard that I should maybe buy an older Nikon D3000

DSLR HD Movie? Having problem transferring movie to PC?

I shot an HD 1080 video with my DSLR Nikon D5100. The size is 2GB. However the problem is that I am not being able to transfer it to my pc. I connected the usb cable and tried transferring through Nikon Transfer software but couldn't.I then tried directly copy-pasting the movie but after a while pasting completed but the file size on pc showed 0 bytes. I am just not being able to transfer.

Can somebody help me out please?
Added (1). The memory card is the one I got with the package. The video plays fine in the camera though. Any way out?

Nikon lens problem? Help if you can?

My Nikon 18-55 lens is broken, kind of. When you take it off and put it on, pictures come out great. But the second you take that first picture after putting it on, it fades to black and takes dark pictures. The only way to fix it is by taking it off and putting it on but that only works for 1 picture. Anybody know the problem or how to fix it?

Get the most out of my nikon 3100?

I love photography and I recently bought a Nikon 3100 and I want to get the most out of it. Although I'm reading the manual. I think there still must be so much more to learn. I'm trying at every opportunity to go out even in my local town and take photos to improve but im wondering whats the best way to learn about photography and the Nikon 3100 in gereral? Should I do a course? Is there any good tutorials on you tube etc?

What size UV filter do I need to buy for my Nikkor lenses?

Hello,

I'm in process of buying two lenses,
- Nikon 24-120mm f/4G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR Lens
- Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR FX Lens

I've searched the web and almost everyone recommended to get a 77mm UV filter a general one so I can use a step-up rings when it's to be used with other lenses.

So the question is, is this a good choice to get this one (I'm going to get a B+W one), and do I need step-up rings if I bought this one in order to use them with the above mentioned lenses?

Why did my long exposure (star trails) photo come up with all of this noise?

I took this star trails photo: http://imgur.com/kaHqZnA (go ahead and enlarge it) and it came up with a bunch of red and green noise. I've never had any problems like this before, just on my new Canon t4i. I've shot star trails for this long (long exposure, about 2-3 hours, ISO 100, large aperture) on my old Nikon D5100 and never got any sort of noise. I shoot regularly on this camera and even do other long exposures for shorter amounts of time but never get and noise.No, there was no big light behind me or anything, all light was natural. I've shot in the middle of the woods and had the same problem. Any suggestions?

Nikon D50 camera Help!

I used this camera about a month ago it was fine. Now every picture I take is completely black. Nothing has been changed on it that I know of. I've tried a different lens and its not that. I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it. Help!
Added (1). I've tried it on M, Auto, and everything else. Inside and outside. Every picture is still black. Also, it wasn't my camera originally so I didn't have access to the manual and such. Thanks

Would this lens autofocus on my Nikon d5100?

Silent focus on Nikon d5100?

I have a Nikon d5100 and use it for movies- when I'm using the AF-S 18-55mm lens the noise It makes when in auto focus mode is quite loud.Is there any way of getting the focus to be silent? Weather it's a setting or a new lens? (I am in no way a professional photographer so apologies if this doesn't really make much sense! if you could tell me a setting or lens or whatever I would be very grateful!)

Nikon d60 what size sd card?

Hi, I currently own a Nikon D60 and I'm planning to head to Europe in about a few weeks from now. The main question I have is what size SD card will my Nikon D60 be compatible to? I am new in taking photos and etc and I own a 2gig SD card… To be realistic… I dont think that 2gig card would be enough… Especially for my travel to Europe.
I've been seeing mixed reviews on the Nikon D60 where some people say it can support an SDHC 32 gig card while others say it can only support either a 4 gig or an 8 gig card…
Could anyone tell me whats fact and what's fiction?

also… just to specify… I'm planning to purchase a Sandisk card… I just don't know what my camera can and cannot support

List of DSLR prime lenses to have?

Buying a Nikon d7100 and need a good list of lenses that will cover most of my needs. From macro to tele, i need a good list to start off with. I have about $800 and primes seem to be cheaper so i want to try to get as much coverage as i can, Im sure a long range telephoto is out of the question due to price but what about a list of others.

How to be a photographer?

I want to buy a Nikon camera because I absolutely LOVE photography. I want to rent a booth @ the flea market so i can blow up pictures for home decor & such, but its nearly 150 $ to do so, & I don't want to risk losing money. I also dont want to spend 200+$ on a camera & then have no use for it. Any advice? If I can't sell my pics is there anything else I could use my camera for like hobby-wise? Or maybe I could sell more than just my art, maybe I could sell homemade dog treats as well or something.

Focusing Nikon D5200?

So my dad got me the new Nikon D5200 this summer and I'm still trying to work out the kinks. What I don't understand no matter how much i study this thing is why it doesn't always focus when I'm recording something. Like it'll focus if I set it on that thing right away, but if I let's say.start off by recording a water bottle, but then switch over to a book next to it, it doesn't focus on the book. Why is that? Any tips and help would be nice. Thanks guys!

Looking into buying a new camera. I need to decide between the Sony a77 or a Nikon D7100?

Also would the NEX 6 or 7 provide the same image quality of the above? I'm would like to be able to make prints that go on my wall. I'm assuming all of these are ok for that. I'm open to possibilities. If there are better cameras please tell me.

Nikon D7000 lens for filming plus tips and tricks?

I'm after a good lens for my Nikon D7000 for filming things like extreme sports. BMX, skate, 4wd, motocross etc.
I'm after something that won't constantly be hunting in and out of focus as they go past or as I move around them as I will be using a glide cam for some good shots.
Any tips, tricks or pointers would be handy also.

How to take clear action photographs using a Nikon D3000 camera?

I currently purchased a Nikon D3000 camera and I have gone through the user's manual and video to figure out the best way to take clear action shots and I have been unsuccessful. I have the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens but not sure what are the best settings on the camera to help me get the clear pictures I want. The pictures that I am taking are at dusk and at night in a football stadium where my son plays football. I have tried making adjustments but with no luck. I am feeling very frustrated since I am new to using these types of cameras. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

How to take good photo for cristening?

I am taking a feww good photos to a friends child christening. The photo would not have any extra lighting just natural light through windonws which is not enough. How can i use autofocus on my nikon d3100 in ordern to capture good photos since he baby its gonna be moving? and which mode to use my nikon sb 600 speedlight? how can i use autofocus and speedlight together.if i put the speedlight in auto mode it will do all the work? thanks

Red/Blue line going through pictures taken with Nikon D5100?

Last night I took some pictures of one of our cats laying in a flower pot and when I when I put them on my computer today there was a vertical red/blue line going through 9 out of 10 pictures I took last night. The camera is only a week old. Hasn't been dropped or anything. This is the first time this has happened out of 700-800 pictures I have taken with it and any I have taken today don't have the line going through them. Any idea what could have caused this?

I dont care about photos at all, only which one is better for video. Should i buy the Nikon D5200, or one of the Canon Rebel series of equal price (Might be t3i or t4i no idea)? Which does better for video, not photo.

Best walk-around lens for a Nikon DX camera?

I asked this question just the other day and got some great answers but im going to ask it in a little bit more of a broad term.Im buying a Nikon d7100 and will be taking college photography lessons soon after.Im not sure as to what specific lenses i will need so im just choosing myself. I have a budget of $800 And need the best lens for multiple situations. I can't decide between a prime or a zoom and with every lens i look up there is always someone giving a contradiction as to why another lens is better. I figure a walk-around lens is best for me since I may be taking photos in doors of pets and the next minute i could be taking sports pictures. I know there is probably not a real all in one lens solution since other lens will do specific ranges better but any recommendations for lens is highly appreciated.

Good Nikon lens for sporting photography?

Ok so i have a Nikon D3200 with the 18-55mm lens
im wanting to take sport photography specifically swimming, diving, and football

i like the lens that came with the camera, its great for portraits and weddings that i've done, but i know i need a slightly better one for sports
i do have a budget im not wanting to go over $600.00

im looking at
Nikon - AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Telephoto Zoom Lens
Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Telephoto Zoom Lens

i want one that has good zoom, yet can capture mid air shots of divers, some clarity of strokes from swimmers, and un-blurried shots of football plays

Nikon D3000 autofocus problems!

I have had my D3000 for about two years and I have never came across this problem. I can't take a photo when I'm in any mode besides guide or when I press the AE-L/AF-L button but the photos come out blurry. I have reset my camera and my shooting options but it still won't focus.My focus mode IS on autofocus. I have the original 18-55 mm lens the camera come with and I would like to know if this is a problem I can fix or if I should take it to a shop.

Recently I had a problem with my photos where the bottom half would be black, I figured out it was a mirror problem and I fixed it. Now my autofocus won't work, could these problems be related and can I fix the autofocus problem in a small amount of time?

My Nikon D50 Manual Setting isn't working?

Hi, I have a question about my Nikon D50. I don't have a manual for this camera, so that's why I'm coming to you guys for help! Okay, so my Nikon manual mode says it's in night portrait mode, and my night portrait mode, says it's in macro mode.So I have two macro modes on my camera. I've tried resetting the menu and restoring the factory settings but this did not work. I don't know how this happened. This camera is used, I got it from my sister who gave it to me, and I'm not sure if she did something to it or now. This issues is really annoying, especially when I'm taking photography classes and I'm supposed to be using manual mode. I'm not able to get the pictures I want without it. Please if you have any advice on this issue, share it!

SDXC Not Compatible With Camera?

I Just Bought an SD Card for my camera and when inserted into my camera (Nikon D40) It says "Card is full" I Have Tried formatting the card in disk utility but that doesn't seem to work. I think my Camera may not be compatible with the SD card as it is an SD-XC and more modern.Is there any way I could make it compatible?

By the way, I use a Macbook Pro, 64GB Sandisk SD-XC Card, And A Nikon D40 Camera.

I am having diffuculty to decide which one to buy. A 32 inch LED TV, or a 35mm prime lens?

I am planning to buy a nikkor 35mm 1.8G prime lens in addition to my arsenal. While I am at the mall, I saw this Devant 32inch LED TV. Now I am starting to decide which one to buy with the budget I have. Please help justify.
Added (1). My first priority actually was the prime lens since I am into photography. But I also realized I need a TV as well.since I don't have a TV in my room. I only use my desktop computer to watch movies and episodes. What really got me in considering the Devant LED TV is they are on sale!

Best walk-around lens for d7100?

Ill try to describe best what im looking for in a lens and see if any of you have any recommendations.Im buying the nikon d7100 body only and need a lens that's better than the kit. Ill be taking photography school and hopefully making a career out of it so id rather have a better lens right off the bat than the kit lens which will potentially only last me a little while.Id prefer a zoom, all in one lens but the quality of multiple lenses seems to be too appealing to me. Point being, im looking for a walk around lens that doesn't have a huge zoom but does great from a small range. A lens that i can do everything with for the most part, Portraits, landscapes, flowers. Maybe there is no such lens and im grasping for a needle in a hay stack.My limits for a lens is $800 not a penny more.i was previously looking at 16-85VR but not sure if that's a good lens or not. Any recommendations are great. -thanks in advance.

Best lighting for home birth photography?

Hello,

I'm looking for some lighting advice for a home birth photos that I will be taking in October. This is my first experience with birth photography and I'm a little worried about the lighting. If the baby arrives during the day I will have the room light and natural light from outside but if the baby arrives at night I will only have room light available and worried that might not be enough. I know there's a good chance I will need to use a flash but I don't want the flash to distract the mother, father, doula or midwife. I've been looking at some Lumiquest equipment (soft boxes, etc) but not sure which would be best for this. I want to be able to provide light but not be distracting (soft light).I would like to practice in advance so I'm comfortable the day of the labor. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I hav nikon d3100, i have all equipment for long exposure except my camera dies.It is also hard to find the correct exposure, I live on 3 acres of land and I would enjoy capturing a trail.

DSLR camera's come and go. Which ones are the the top five ever made (So far)?

Here is my top five list.
1) Nikon D90 (It has EVERYTHING fitted to the camera you need and no bits of fluff you don't need, It is solid and well made yet was inexpensive to buy..It produces images the same as a D300s but at half the cost)
2) Canon 5D MK2 (What a gem of a camera this is..Full frame and well made..Would have been my number one had it not been so expensive)
3) Nikon D2X (This camera was light Years ahead of its time)
4) Canon 550d (One of the best budget DSLR camera's made before Canon lost the plot and fitted stupid screens on the back that spin around??)
5) Nikon D40 (Most people first DSLR camera..So easy to use..well made for a budget DSLR and produced nice quality punchy photo's)

DSLR for first time user?

Hi Folks,

I am a 24 year old guy very passionate about photography. I am planning to buy my first DSLR within a budget of 34k INR with 18-55 lens.

I got many recommendations for Canon 600D and Nikon 5200. Also I came to know that Sony A58 with SLT technology can perform better in terms of video (with AF). With all these info I am confused.

Can anyone please help me in making in the right decision.
