Tips on photographing a small outdoor gig.?

Hi everyone! I've been asked to shoot a small gig next week that some friends of mine will be playing at. The trouble is, I've never done anything like this before and would love some tips.

The band will be probably playing outside (evening time), but may come inside to a dimly lit room if it rains. Either way they will be fairly close. A few stage lights are available inside though I'm not sure exactly which kind, more than likely green or red. This could cause problems I know.

I am by no means a professional or even relatively experienced photographer-I have a Nikon D40 that I use mostly for sports/outdoor activities (pictures of pets and horse riding) and general snapshots. These usually turn out quite well. I have a basic understanding of ISO and aperture ( assuming I am right in saying that I should up the aperture for darker rooms?)

I use 3 lenses- a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G, which I think will not be helpful in this situation.
a Nikkor 50mm 1.8, I think I will probably shoot with this although I am least used to it.
and the Nikon D40 kit lens, 18-55mm.

Any and all tips and helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated..what are the most important things I should remember for shooting indoors versus outside?

is this a good tripod? from it's spec it can handle 20Kg weight. I'm going to use Nikon D7000 with tokina 12-24mm lens.It can be 189cm high with the center column extended and 160cm without extending. Though Chinese one, I suppose it is a good one. Please, give your valuable advice on this one.

Cheap pretty camera bag?

I am trying to find a cheap under 40 camera bag. Something cute, more so of a shoulder bag. I have spent literal hours on eBay and amazon trying to find one in a resonable price. I need one that is larger enough to fit my Nikon and two other lenes

Is GCSE Photography more theory or hands on work?

I am taking GCSE Photography and I just want to know if the course is more theory based or hands on based work. I would prefer it if it was more hands on. I am getting a DSLR (Nikon D3100) regardless as I have wanted one for a while and have a passion for photography. Also, is there any accessories that you could recommend to me (within a reasonable budget for a 14 year old boy [>£25 per accessory]).

Good mics for recording audio on computer?

I am making videos on my computer using smooth draw and recording it but i want to record my audio with it.are there any recomendations for a mic that is compatable with a computer.and how to get my laptop to record this.

i have about £100 to spend on it i want good mp3 sound.

Going on Vacation and going to buy a new camera?

Well I'm going to Çeşme İzmir and I'm my parents promised me a New Camera ıf I go honor roll and I did. I was thinking the Canon 650D(730-800Dollars) or the Nikon D3200(550-650Dollars), But ıf anyone has a better recommendation please do share my price range would be from 800 Dollars to 1.000 Dollars. I also want it to me relevantly new, and It doesn't have to be a Dslr you could also reccomend a Milc.

Getting started in photography?

Alright now I dont plan to do this full time just as a hobby. I have a decent camera (Nikon D3100) I just don't know what to take a picture of that may sound stupid but that's where I'm at. What i really wanted the camera for is for taking pics of lightning and severe weather but we don't always have a storm. Really my question is what do i take pictures of in between storms?
