A quality Nikon camera under $300?

So I saw I was really interested in doing photography lately on my iPhone 5s and I wanted to do something more practical than taking them on a phone. I was looking at Nikon cameras which I prefer over any other, I also want really nice HD pics with lots of cool filters and effects, I'm not crazy about having the best zoom in the world but quality zoom is preferred, and I want one with lots of space for pics AND video. I do want one preferably under $300 and over $270 is a bit much for the budget I have but please help I don't have experience with cameras much🙈

How to film from my Nikon but show up on my Macbook Pro?

I want to film a video for my YouTube channel but I want to be able to see what I'm filming, whether the camera is focused or not and whether it's in a good position for the lighting to be good. I want to know if there is some way I can hook it up to my MacBook Pro so that I can see what's filming on my Mac without having to use mirrors to see what's on the camera. Is there a special lead I need to get or is it something I have to do in Final Cut Pro X? Cheers.

What DPI is okay for large scale printing?

Hello, I have recently displayed some of my photography in a gallery for the first time. I only printed relatively small prints at 300dpi which with my 18mp camera was around A3 size. I know the best resolution for print is 300dpi but many other exhibitors images were huge A2+ sized. With my 18MP camera or in fact even a very high end Canon/Nikon SLR that has a similar number of MP it would mean printing at around 200dpi or lower for A2+ sized images.

My question is how low can I go with the dpi? I understand in a gallery you are viewing them from a distance but even so these huge images were still quite sharp close up. I guess they may have been shot with a film camera. I would experiment with sizes if I had a large scale printer myself however it costs a lot to get a large print done so I can't afford to experiment, it would be nice to have some opinions from fellow photographers.

Thanks in advance.

How big of an upgrade is this?

so, my wonderful hubby went out and bought me a Nikon D7100 with an 18 to 105 lens as well as a 55 to 200 and 85mm micro to go with it. ( i like sports, wildlife, and macro photos)

my previous camera was a Sony NEX 5r, nice camera but nothing like this

how big of an upgrade is that do you think and what tips / advice can you give me for the dslr world?

Tips for black & white / monochrome photography?

I have really gotten into monochrome photography

it seems to me that not all of the same rules would apply given there is no color obviously

but just wondering, what are some b & w photography basics / tips?

my D7100 calls it "monochrome" under picture control settings yet a b & w" message blinks when i am taking the picture, so apparently Nikon does not recognize any difference between the two, just wondering if you can?

Speedlight for Nikon?

Hi, Im looking for a Speedlight for my Nikon camera since I do portrait photography, but I cant afford the really expensive SB-800s and so on, so I looked around and found the Yongnuo YN-565EX. However, it said "for Nikon SB-800, SB-900, etc". Does this mean it has to be the slave for an SB-800 or such? Or can I use it on the camera on its own. Thanks

No time to upgrade? Do you agree?

a fellow photographer i converse with from time to time suggested i upgrade to a full frame camera like the D610 for example

i said, although i have taken big strides in photography over the past year that i was not ready for that big of a plunge

i still am figuring out all my D7100 can do

i feel my photography overall is still well into the amateur stage and not ready for the pro FX side yet, plus, to be honest, i think the full frame benefits are a bit overrated / exaggerated, but as i say i am not a pro so i may see differently in time

NOW, if Nikon comes out wiht an improved D7200 i may do that, but not full frame… Yet!

so, what do you think, good decision, hold off until i master the DX and then move on up?

BONUS Q: just wondering, how many pro photographers shoot with DX? A lot, or is it mostly FX?

My Nikon J1 keeps turning off?

Everytime I go to change the shutter speed/aperture/pop up the flash, lately it's just been shutting off. I'd have to take the battery out and put it on the charger for a few minutes, and then put the battery back in. It isn't that the battery is dead, and I don't know what to do. It is new and hasn't really been used that much. Should I just see about claiming a warranty (that hopefully my mom bought, don't know though.)

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have suggestions as to how I should fix it?

Thanks. :)

Nikon D7100 for A beginner?

Hey guys
So I want my first DSLR and I was looking at d7100 which I can afford with a 18-105mm VR lens. I did a photography course for 2 years at my school, I tried the entry level camera d3200 for a week. (borrowed from my friends) I found it easy and I really wanted better programmers so I could be more in charge of the camera. I really like learning and willing to learn this camera inside and out as this money is coming out of my own hand of months and months of work. So my question is, is d7100 good for a beginner or will it be too much of a stepping stone?
Thanks

Please, Please tell me which camera to buy?

I want to purchase my first DSLR camera, mainly to take photgraphs of moths/butterflies etc (macro photography?). I have NO knowledge of DSLR cameras and have spent days reading information on which camera to buy - for a beginner. After countless hours of reading, I cannot decide between a Nikon, or a Canon. Please, TELL me which one to buy.

As an absolute beginner - and on a limited budget - I don't want to waste money making a costly mistake.

Please, could you advise on a camera and lens that I might be able to buy for less than £800.00?

Thank you very much for your help.

Is it worth upgrading my Nikon lenses?

I currently have a Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm f/3.5 kit lens (no VR), and a 55-200mm telephoto (also no VR). I'm looking to get more into photography and I don't know if I should upgrade my lens and/or my body. Would it be worth it to get better lenses or a body? I was thinking about getting the same lenses but the newer versions with VR. I'm into a lot of types of photography. I haven't really found my niche yet but so far I like street, scenery, and portrait photography.

Nikon D80 and 'waterfall' picture?

I am a novice photographer. I have a Nikon D80 and a tripod that I would like to use for taking a 'waterfall' picture (examples here: http://ipad.wallpaperswiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Blue-Waterfall-Costa-Rica.jpg) where the falling water gets blurred. I have seen several answers that describe this, but none easy enough for me to follow since either they describe what to do with a different camera or it was not step-by-step and easy to follow.

Can someone describe what should I do to take a such picture step by step using D80 buttons and controls?

Miranda RE2 camera battery, do I really need one?

I just picked up a Miranda RE2 from a yard sale for super cheap. The guy of course claimed it worked even though it doesnt have a battery because the battery was just for the light sensor thing. I havn't gone out to get any film yet because I wanted to ask the internet about the battery thing.

Was the guy telling the truth? Will this thing work without the battery? I might look into getting one/a suitable substitue eitherway eventually because the light sensor thingy sounds like a neat feature, but until then I'm very happy to do without.

It seems to be in great condition otherwise.

Should I start a YouTube?

Ok. So I've been thinking about starting a YouTube channel. I have a Nikon d3200 and I've had a lot of experience with social media ex: Instagram, tumblr, etc. And I've had 14k on Instagram with "tumblr" pictures, oh god I regret that phase. And I have 2k currently on Instagram because my 14k got disabled. I am a 13 year old and I saw that someone that was 13 (Ella elbells) monetizes her videos. I thought you had to be 18? Is this true? Obviously I have some experience. But I'm kindve scared of what my parents will say. I think that they will say yes considering I have told them about my Instagram and such. I'm also kindve scared that the people at my school will make fun of me. Will they? Thanks so much:)

Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 too heavy?

I'm upgrading from a nikon d300 to a d610 and I'm torn about buying it with the kit lens or buying body only and buying the 24-70 2.8. Obviously the 24-70 is the better performing lens, but I'll be travelling to the uk for the first time and I'm just worried the lens would be too heavy to cart around all day. Also, my hands aren't the steadiest and the 24-85 does have vr (for static subjects)

My only fx lens at the moment is the 50mm 1.8 and that isn't a good travel lens as it's not wide enough

Any thoughts?

Persuade to get the 7d?

So I asked my dad and he said he was expecting me to pick out a camera in the $1000 range. The 7d is on sale $500 and its about $1300. Although Ive never played with the camera, I do know most of the features, how tos, and just about everything you need to know for an enthusiast. However, We discussed that the 7d is like a pro camera, but people say its a high mid level camera and could be viewed as beginner pro (if that makes sense).

We are looking at other cameras and particularly canon since my sister has a t3i and the lens are interchangeable. I dont want to get the same one so the only option is something below that which won't happen or the t5i. BUT, te t5i is about $1000 at best buy. $300 more and we could get a pro like camera the 7d. The 70d is another option but about the same price as the ongoing sale for the 7d so why not get something better for the same price?

I really do not want to get the t5i and if he lets me get the 70d, why can't i spend a bit more for the 7d?

How can I get him to compromise for the 7d? I suggested to put my money into it and still he says its expensive for me.

Its my 16th birthday and instead of a car I asked for a better camera than something entry level like nikon 3200. I really do not want to miss this sale opportunity if he does decide yes but then realize its $1800 when we couldve gotten it for $1300… :(

Nikon Wide-Angle Lens?

Hey everyone. I have a couple of Nikon DSLRs (not full frame). At the moment, I only have the standard lens and the Nikon 18-200mm VR 3.5-5.6G lens and I'd really like a wide-angle lens such as the 8mm and above ones. I have a really low budget so nothing over $400 so it's obviously been hard finding the best lens. Any suggestions or lens you've previously owned and what you would recommend getting. It doesn't HAVE to be under $400 as I'm open to all the recommendations but I'd like it around that price range. Thanks

Nikkor AF-S 55-300mm Lens Barrel?

I just got a Nikon Nikkor 55-300mm AF-S 4.5-5.6G ED lens and have a question regarding the zoom ring. When zooming between 55 & 100 it is fluid and easy to zoom, however between 100 & 300 it gets stiffer to turn (while not unbearable). I was just curious if it was normal for this to be the case or if it will work out with use. Thanks!

Is taking photos easy?

Does it seem to me or nowdays anyone with a decent camera can take good photos without knowing to much about photography. You take a fine Nikon or Canon, click a button and there it is. Nice image, focused item sharp as a knife, background nicely blurred, like a real professional photo. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Yashica Film SLR lens to Nikon DSLR lens compatibility with the help of an adapter?

Here are the facts. I really need an expert opinion on this one. :)

1.) I have a Yashica 50mm ML lens from my FX-7 film SLR camera.

2.) I have a Nikon D5100 Digital SLR.

3.) I want to use that 50mm ML on my D5100.

4.) I saw an adapter for a cheap price that says "M42 Lens to Nikon Body Adapter" with a description of "Make M42 mount lenses (Zeiss, Pentax, Praktica, Mamiya, Zenit) can be used on NIKON cameras"

5.) I've read several articles about the relationship between Yashica and CZ lenses but I just don't get it.

The main question now is, will the 50mm ML work on my Nikon DSLR if I buy the adapter? Thanks a bunch!
Added (1). I am aware of the hassle that I will be going through, like having an all manual setting (with no light meter), and not being able to focus to infinity. :)
Added (2). about the main question, that should be "will the 50mm ML 'successfully and perfectly mount' on my Nikon DSLR if I buy the adapter?"

Any lower-priced fixed aperture Sony E-mount zoom lenses? (under $500 US)?

I am noticing that the Sony e-mount lens system is very limited. I did notice there are some fixed aperture lenses that range from 800 to $1000.

I understand fixed aperture lenses are generally more expensive anyway. But just to make sure, I am not overlooking anything here, correct?

Sigma and Tamron appear to make great lenses for the Sony A mount, but without buying an adapter for the E mount, it wont communicate with the body. I generally use manual lenses anyway. However, I am considering the Sony A6000, which has fast autofocus, but the only zoom lenses that look native are f4.5-6.3

Am I missing something? Is this just the climate that we are in now where the lenses arent as robust as the Canon and Nikon lineups?

What should I do with my Nikon D7000?

I purchased the camera in 2011 and it was a good camera (though I could never get a super crisp shot no matter what I tried) but now my D7000 got a shutter failure. Honestly I don't even want to bother getting it fixed because 1. It is expensive to get it fixed 2. I'm pretty sure the sensor was scratched by the messed up shutter which will cost a lot more for nikon to replace 3. It would probably fail again very soon 4. I was never completely happy with my D7000's images (I used my bros D3100 and the photos look way better IMO). I don't know what to do with the body. The top screen is also broken (I tripped running up a staircase a while back and the screen broke).

So, what should I do with my broken D7000?

Why does the iso on my DSLR get worse as my camera gets older?

I've owned my Nikon D60 since 2008. It used to take some pretty nice photos at an ISO of 800. As it's gotten older the ISO quality has slowly degraded. Photos taken at ISO 400 began to look like they were taken at 800 and now images taken at ISO 200 looks pretty bad. It's so. Incredibly. Grainy!

Thoughts? Suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Should I sell my Nikon lens for money to buy a pentax k1000 with 50mm lens?

Well I had my d7000 and 35mm 1.8 lens and I was happy with it until the d7000 got a shutter failure. It would cost a lot to fix, and I don't know if the sensor got damaged too, PLUS it would probably fail again anyway… I don't really know what to do with the broken d7000 BUT the 35mm lens is almost brand new so I could sell it. I was looking on craigslist and I found someone selling a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm lens in "nearly new condition". If I sell my lens I can definitely afford it (it's $75). Is it worth it? I never used a film slr before so I want to try it. Plus I would like to get a sony a7s in the future so I guess I could use the pentax lens with an adapter. I also don't really want to sell my 35mm lens because my brother has a d3100 and I can use it sometimes…

So yea, should i sell my 35mm 1.8 lens for a pentax k1000 with 50mm lens?
Is shooting with film worth it anymore?

I really don't have $75 dollars to be wasting unless I sell my lens.

Sunpak DX 8R Ring Light/Macro Flash compatibility to new dslr?

Did not realize and purchase a Macro flash that was made for film slr cameras
It comes with a Nikon adapter. I have read forums that stated older flash has higher voltage sometimes

I found out the nikon d3100 is a 250 v
the sunpack is 6 volt

but then I also read the the trigger has a different voltage which is usually lower
but I can not find anywhere that tells me the voltage of pc socket on the nikon

Nikon vs Canon - which brand provides better value for lenses?

Please answer the question that's been asked, do not try to read between the lines something that's not there. Asking about lenses only, not cameras or flashes.

I've been an avid user of Nikon DSLRs for a few years. However, I'm finding that I can't find perfect combination of lenses for the kind of shots I'm doing (mostly taking pictures of my toddler, who's constantly moving, most shots done at 6-15ft), and was considering getting a secondary DSLR from Canon, just to try it out.

So, the primary reason for this experiment is to try out the lenses. If you've had both Nikon and Canon in the past, which brand did you prefer, when comparing available options, sharpness (and other factors resulting in picture quality), speed of autofocus, and overall value for money? Anything particular you like or don't like about Canon lenses generally?

Only looking for lenses released past-2005. Primarily, because I want to get every last bit of sharpness out of them (which most older lenses can't provide, since they weren't made for 20MP sensors), and IS is a must. I'm planning to only buy Canon lenses, not Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc.
Expecting to spend in the range of $300-400 for zoom (will be buying used, likely just one universal, in the rough range 20-120mm, hopefully something fast and with IS), and maybe $150 or so for primes (also will likely only get single prime, f/1.8-f/2, 35-50mm). My favourite Nikon lens now is 24-85mm VR, though I don't like its semi-slow AF.

Film Photography multiple Exposure?

I was out earlier shooting some images (using a Nikon FE, just in case that helps) when I was testing to see if a switch did as i thought. It did, it allowed me to make a multiple exposure, not advancing the film when I push the film advance lever. Only problem is, I assumed i'd be able to abort it. I spent a little while trying to see what I should do, it seemed as though the only way to make the film advance would be to take another exposure. So gave up and just took another, but I covered my lens (with the lens cap and also my hand) as well as pressing the view finder to my chest in case any light got in that way. I did also put the settings to F22 and 1/1000th for even less possibility of light. I'm assuming that because no new light got in, there wont be any change to the first image? Is this correct? And also if there is a different way to abort making a multiple exposure on a Nikon FE I'd be glad to hear it. Thanks

Can the Nikon d3300 pick up infra red?

I am trying to think of a way to make the night vision on my Nikon d3300 work in dark rooms, it works fine when filming with a source of light nearby such as a lamp post or a light in someone's window but when I take it down into my cellar it doesn't work at all. Now I was thinking if it could pick up infra red the maybe I could strap a light to it and be able to film in those really dark rooms without using a flash light, potentially being unseen, if not does anyone else have any ideas about how I could do this?

DSLR OR POINT AND SHOOT?

hi. Im looking for a camera.
im having choice in point and shoot nikon L830 and dslr nikon d3100 or d40

i have read lot of reviews about nikon L830 and im little bit satisfied but the one issue is it uses alkaline battery. Where nowadays even digi cam comes with lithium battery.

if i go with dslr it is bit costly as in dslr cam every year new model exists and replaces the old one.
as im not professional one i adopt to be a photographer.

so im confused whether to buy point and shoot and can later buy a good one or
one dslr which i can use lifelong. So please help to take correct decision.
thank you

Why do my pictures become gritty when I make a collage?

Hi, I have a Nikon camera that takes really good pictures… I uploaded some and put effects on them with Ribbet, com and they came out beautiful ( you can zoom in with the site and you don't see a pixel)
Long story short, I can't decide between two pictures so I made a mirror-like collage. The problem is it's all grty and it looks like you took the pictures with a potato, it's even worst when you zoom in… Can I fix it? If not, can someone recommend some good sites to do this without this problem?

Sorry if the terms I use are weird, I'm french lol
Thanks!

Achieving Off-Center Focus with Canon 6D Focus Points?

Attached is one of the photos taken by loyanzi from Flickr.
I am on the way to get Canon full frame system this year.
I was considering the 50mm f1.2L and 135mm f2 L.
Now, I do not have the budget for 5D III after 50mm f1.2L, but then again, that creamy bokeh is just astounding from the 50L.
I have also considered a Nikkor manual AIS 50mm f1.2, but the bokeh is a "little" harsh, just a little.
So, I was thinking about 6D either. Later, after a few years upgrade to Mark IV maybe.
Maybe you get used to the 11 point focus in 6D, but how did loyanzi achieve these focus? I know the focus points layout from 6D.
Are these the far left /right focus point mostly, or, did loyanzi use manual focus override?
Or maybe just crop it down?
What about focusing "on the eye"? What would I do with a Canon 6D?
I have heard NOT So FAVOURABLE things about "focus and recompose".
*I have asked loyanzi. I haven't got a REPLY yet. I just want your opinion. I'm deciding between lenses. Thank you!

Is it worth it to get the Canon 70d?

I have $1200 to spend on my first DSLR. I know a lot about photography and getting a 70d or complicated camera wouldn't overwhelm me. Is it worth it to spend it all right now on the 70d with the kit lens, or go down a step to the t5i or Nikon d5300 and use the rest for lenses and flashes. With the 70d I would be able to get another 50mm or 35mm lens around Christmas time, but I wouldn't be able to get another lens until next summer. What should I get? Is it worth it to get the nicer body but not have as good of lenses for a little while? Or would you get the less nice body with a nicer lens or two?

Problems with photographing star trails?

So today I decided to try and shoot a star trail. I have a nikon d3200 with an 18-55 kit lens and I used an shutter release timer remote. I did 60 1 minute exposure with one second in between exposures. I think that is where I went wrong, with the interval timing. here's another example very similar to what happened to my photo ( I don't own this photo)

Looking for a reasonably priced fair quality camera?

I wish to start dabbling in the art of photography, because it pertains to the future career I am looking to engage in. The camera does not need to shoot video if it doesn't have the ability. D7000 water/impact damage err - Help?!

Hello, yesterday I was using my underwater bag camera case with my d7000. I set it down to the side on a boulder to climb up this rock and my friend slipped down the boulder and kicked it. The camera flew about 2 feet, bounced off a rock and landed in the water. I got it and it was still working but had got some water in the bag. We were pretty far in this swimming spot so I drained the bag and it was left in the bag with a little water in it for about 1 hour so it was pretty humid but it still worked for the first 20 mins. I finally got it out of the bag and it shows the ERR blinking on the top lcd. Frantically I removed the battery, SD card, and lens. I dried it off and when I took off the lens, there was absolutely no water inside the camera so I'm wondering if the err is from the bump on the rock or the water? And any tips on how to fix this? I am a college student with no money to send to Nikon to get repaired but I am 100% ok with doing any repairs myself. Thanks in advance!

Best resolution for a picture book?

Any good DSLR camera recommendations?

Hello!

I've been looking for a decent DSLR camera for a quite awhile now. I'm not exactly a 'great' photographer, I'm only a beginner.

The camera I have currently is GE x550, but the amount of money I waste on batteries for it is ridiculous. Also since it is a bridge camera, I cannot change the lenses and I would love to.

This year is my first year in high school and I am taking photography and would love to already have a decent camera for class.

My budget is $550, so anything less than that would definitely help!

If you could find the cheapest DSLR camera that would also be lovely! Thank you!

Ps: Please do not be rude because of my lack of knowledge on cameras.
Added (1). Oh, and if the camera has excellent video quality that'd be nice!

Thanks.

When using my sisters Nikon with a Nikon 55-200 lens, everything's fine, but when I want to use that lens on my canon (for filming), then the aperture closes up and everything becomes dark. Is there a way I can leave the aperture as is when switching cameras?

What is the purpose of the ring in the middle of the Nikkor 18mm - 200mm lens?

The ring goes from infinity to 3 ft. I misplaced the manual but I believe it was for macro photos which I don't do. Also does it have a name? It moves automatically depending on shutter and aperture.

Interested in photography, not sure what to do college wise?

I just recently graduated high school. About 4 years ago I picked up a simple digital camera, and my best friend would model for me. Since then I've bought a Nikon D5100, and I know it's not the worlds best camera, but it's a huge step up to the $100 camera.
Anyway, as of last year, a lot of people were saying I'm doing a really good job. But it's hard to tell if people are just saying that to be nice or if they really mean it. I've decided to believe they say it cause it's true. So I'm interested in pursuing fashion photography, but I'm not quite sure where to start. It'll have to be community college cause I don't have anything to show for that I'm worth any college's time (my parents were d!cks and didn't prepare me at all).
And I'll show a photo (by me ) just to see what you think…Interested in photography, not sure what to do college wise - 1

Hey people, I'm looking into getting a 50mm lens for some portrait photography.

Looking at the "Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D" but have read that the focal goes to around 75mm on my make of camera body.

Recommended digital cameras?

I've been interested in photography for a while. I am finally taking a photography class. The instructor said to get a camera with decent aperture and something else… I can't remember:(
First, what exactly is DSLR? I know it's digital single lens reflex, but what is so special about it, and can you get interchangeable lens with them?
Also, what are compact system cameras? Those seem more expensive.
What about cameras with a flip out/around screen?
I also want burst mode.

It seems like a lot of questions, but I really want a decent one. Any suggestions?

Lost all photos from computer/camera?

Hi. I've been in London for the weekend and when I came to put the photos from my Nikon D3100 onto my computer, they vanished.
I plugged the camera in as normal, selected the photos I wanted, created a new folder and moved the photos to it
When I opened photoshop, the folder wasn't there. So I checked in my pictures library, and it wasn't there either. I checked on my camera, and the selected photos weren't on there either.

I'm quite upset about this, and I've unplugged and replugged it into my computer twice and removed the SD card once. Help, please?

I want to utilize a batch of cheap webcams as standalone surveillance cameras?

these are usb cameras, made by Hercules for Ubisoft or some such (packaged for the Wii). I opened one up, there are maybe 3 ics and a bunch of other (passive) components mostly. Obviously this can be done readily with a single board computer with usb ports and an sd card slot. Can anyone make any recommendation?

Would also like to alter the firmware in my Nikon L105 camera to make it record longer then 30 minutes of video. Need help. Would I be endangering the hardware by doing this? IOW would the extra heat be detrimental? I imagine a fan installed in a judicious fashion would alleviate that.

Would the Nikon d5300 good for sports?

I have been researching a lot and I believe I am going to get a Nikon d5300 as my first DSLR. The other camera I was heavily considering was the t5i, but the Nikon seems to slightly have the edge. If you disagree let me know. The one thing I am concerned about is how the Nikon will preform when shooting sports. Will the AF be satisfactory? Can the camera track fast moving subjects well enough? I will be photographing some sporting events at my college so I want a camera is good when shooting sports. How do you think the d5300 is at this? Would you recommend anything else?

Change to canon from nikon?

I have a nikon d7000 with 50mm 1.4G lens and is the only lens I have.

I've been thinking of changing to a full frame canon or 7D as the lenses I find are cheaper than nikon and I know nikon lenses are better built. There are a few canon lenses I have in mind but when I compare the same lenses to nikon, nikon are double the price.

I'm also going to be doing a photography course in September and want to expand my variety of lenses with having to spend more than £500 on just one lens.

Thoughts?

Can't make up my mind?!

Hello, i need help with buying a camera. I want to switch from my smartphone to a camera, i was thinking about a DSLR, like a nikon D3200, but i barely know any basic photography functions like apperture, ISO. Then i started looking through superzoom bridge cameras like Sony's cyber-shot HX300 or the panasonic DMC-FZ70. I might learn most of the basic photography features by school year, because i need the camera for photography lessons. If any of you could give advice on one of these cameras, or recommend something similiar, that would be great.

Wildlife and nature cameras?

So, I am looking to get my own camera, as i have been using my dads Nikon for a year, and we are starting to have disagreements over it cause i use it a lot now.
I mainly take pictures of nature, like flowers or trees, and animals, like my dog or cat.
I want a camera that is $600 or less (preferably $500 or less, but $600 is doable).
My dads camera is a Nikon D5000. Not sure what either of the lenses are, but they both have manual and auto focus. One is a short range, the other is a long range.
I know my way around that camera, but am not an expert.
Does anyone have any cameras (and lenses) under $600 that is fit for outside wildlife photography, but isnt insanely hard to figure out how to work?
Thanks a lot!

Choosing my First DSLR Camera? - 1

I'm planning on getting my first DSLR soon and I am truly indecisive. I've been to my local electronics shop and they were somewhat helpful but they kept on pushing the more expencive models such as the Canon 7D or Nikon D5300 onto me. Would the Nikon D5300 be a truly ideal entry-level camera or is there something else? Would the D3300 be well worth it?

I'm planning to use the camera for:
-Vacation photos
-Taking pictures of my kids at their sporting events
-Scenery photos
I'm just trying photography as a new hobby

Some other cameras besides the D5300 that I am considering are the Nikon D5200 and D3300, or the Canon T3I,T4I, OR T5I. What are some recommendations?

I greatly appreciate your help! Thank you:)

Nikon D3200 settings problems?

I just got my first DSLR, it's a Nikon D3200 and I am extremely happy with it, but I am having issues with ISO, aperture and focus settings. Before, I could change the ISO all the time by holding in the "Fn" button the side and scroll on the wheel to the right, but now that doesn't work. Aperture I haven't figured out how to use, it says that I should click the +- button on the top right and scroll the wheel, but nothing happens. The third problem I have is my focus settings, yesterday I could just switch between auto and manual by clicking the info button, but the option for focus is greyed out.

What am I doing wrong here?

P.S. Keep in mind that this is my first DSLR like I said so I'm more or less clueless when it comes to these types of technical aspects of photography.

What camera to get next? Upgrade from D5100?

Hi, I am an amateur photographer. I bought my Nikon D5100 about a year and a half ago and I think I am outgrowing it and I want to move up to a better camera. I do work professionally in photography so the quality is mattering more and more with each job. I want a new Nikon camera with a more impressive ability to shoot in low light situations as well as greater megapixel. I understand that lenses are a big factor as well. So I just want help picking a camera.

I am willing to spend about $2000 total. However, I want to use some of that on a nice lens. So a camera costing under $1400 would be nice. I am considering the D7100, D610, and D800. I would love to get the D7100 because I can buy it right now. It's about $700 refurbished and I have that. But if I wait about three months, I can afford the D610 or D800. So my question is, is the D610 a whole lot better than the D7100? Worth the wait? And is the D800 way better than the D610?
Can I use my current lenses on those? I have a 50mm f1.8 and an 18-55mm VR. Last question, what is a really nice overall lens that would go with one of those models? I predominantly shoot portraits, family photos, and conceptual art work.

Nikon D3100 lens compatibility from other brands?

Hello. I have a NIkon D3100 camera and I am looking for new lenses. I only have an 18-55mm (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens) and I am looking for something up to 200 mm. Preferably beginning with 55mm. I am no expert as I am only a beginner and I am beginning to love this hobby. My question is how do I choose a compatible lens for my DSLR? I am not set on staying with Nikon's Nikkor lenses as I do not want to be restricted to choose if I can actually look for other brand lenses. I am not looking for Nikkor lenses compatible with my camera. Is there some red flag I should look out for If i buy other brand lenses? I am also looking for a lens/lenses that is not muy caro (expensive). Thank you very much, your help is appreciated

Trouble with trying to transfer images?

I have a Nikon D5100 and have previously transferred images successfully to my PC for printing. Unfortunately, for the past year or so ill health and visits to hospital (several!) have prevented my using the camera at all until a few days ago. I find that now I can't transfer images at all. The instruction book tells me to connect the USB cable (with the computer switched on) then switch the camera on (same for transferring by using the SD card in the slot in the PC), then select from the dialogue box. Trouble is, no dialogue box appears and if I click on "Nikon Transfer 2) and then on "Source", there is no sign of any device in use! Am I doing something stupid? I certainly had no trouble transferring images a year ago. Incidentally, to forestall a possible suggestion, the instruction tells me to ensure the camara battery is fully charged, and it is. Any ideas would be welcome, so thanks in advance to all those who try to help.

What DSLR to get for a beginner?

I love taking pictures
Right now I have a Canon Powershot sx 40 hs and I love it. But I think it's time to upgrade and I want to try DSLR cameras.

I've had both Nikon and Canon and don't really have a preference. I don't need video so that's not important. I would just like a camera that has the best image quality - with the starter lens (I plan to upgrade to better lenses once I get the hang of it)

I've only looked at the Canon t3i and the Nikon D5100 but can't decide

Is there a camera that has better image quality than those 2?

Also I don't want to spend anything more than $600

Torn between a Remington and a Savage?

I'm looking to buy my first hunting rifle (.270 for mostly white-tail), and I'm torn between a Remington 700 ADL and a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP.

Going from 55-200 to 55-300… Much point?

hey guys!

I currently own a D5100 and a standard 18-55 with a Nikon 55-200 lens ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-55-200MM-F4-5-6G-Black/dp/B0009HN57Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404574683&sr=8-2&keywords=55-200mm+nikon )
I was just wondering is there much point in selling my 55-200 and buying a Nikon 55-300mm ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-AF-S-NIKKOR-55-300mm-4-5-5-6G/dp/B003ZSHNCC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404574741&sr=8-1&keywords=55-300mm+nikon) or an equivalent 55-300mm lens?
I have heard that it's not worth the money going from a 200 to a 300 as you only get a little closer and it's is so minor. The only time it is worth it is if you're upgrading the lens considerably. Looking at the above two lens would it be worth it? Is what i've been told true?

I normally shoot scenic photos and Wildlife.
