Nikon D7100 Best Lenses between the two? (NY Trip)?

I plan on going to NY (Manhattan) and plan on using a few different photography, Portrait (with background clear and blurred), and Landscape (Ground level (Sculptures) and sky-view (such as Top of the rock (Similar to empire state building.

I'm looking at two different lenses:

Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX AF-S G NIKKOR (2003-)

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1755.htm

and

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 FX AF-S G ED NIKKOR (2007-)

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/24-70mm.htm

I was told that both lenses are compatible with D7100. I don't care about the price, I just want to know which would be better out of the two (for my needed uses). One person recommended the FX (because I want to do Portrait and Landscape and the portrait would be better for this lens) lens I was just wondering since the DX lenses was built for the D7100 why wouldn't it be better?

Any suggestions for first SLR?

Hey! :)

I have a question which has been asked multiple times on here. However, I'm going to ask it again as i have a few questions to go along with it:)

I am very interested in getting into photography. I currently have a Bridge Camera (Nikon L120) and while it's an okay camera I am not overly happy with the picture quality or the features. I find the picture quality on my Phone matches the quality of the l120.

I mainly take nature photos/photos of lakes etc and there is no way to change the shutter speed, aperture on the camera. This leads to ALOT of blurring in moving objects. While close up objects look amazing anything far away looks blurry and awful (This could be my lack of technique/skill though?)

I don't really know ANYTHING about photography but I am starting a level one basics - adult course in August.

I was just wondering a few things.

1: What would be a good camera for somebody starting out? I am thinking maybe a SLR that bridges the gap (technically and financially) between my £130 L120 'Bridge' camera and pretty good SLR. If I enjoy the course I can then splash out a bit more at a later date (3-4 years time). Any suggestions? I don't want a professional £700 bare bones camera but I also don't want a cheapy camera that is very limiting.

2: I currently have a budget of £400-500 MAX budget. Is the above possible with this budget?

3: Should you stay away from a second hand cameras from Ebay/CEX etc?

Is it worth buying a Nikon D4 if I'm not a professional photographer?

Photography is just something that keeps me busy. I never sold any of my pictures. I'm only 2 years photographing as a hobby. What's your opinion about it, is it worth or not?

Which camera to buy? - 2

Hi,

So, I'm trying to buy a camera now, a DSLR and here's my options

Canon 650D or also know as Rebel T4i (2nd Hand) - With the basic kit like 18-55mm lens, etc… She seldom uses it and needs money though. I believe she bought it at around $800 USD and she's offering me the product for only $500. Roughly more than 1 year with her though.

Nikon D3200 (Brand New!) - With the basic kit as well (Cost just about $500)

Some review says Nikon D3200 is good, but 650D is great as well! I'm actually torn right now. Please help.

Thanks!

Odd digital 'koch' smearing on footage?

Background: The lens is a Zeiss Distagon 50mm, the camera is a Sony PMW-F3 with Nikon mount. The smearing effect is consistent across shots and is priapic in shape. It resembles a creamy white residue on the lens, however there appear to be no contaminants on the lens itself.

Why can't I take a long exposure photo during the day?

I've done some long exposures at night with steel wool photography, but today I wanted to do a long exposure of a waterfall I saw. The camera (Nikon D3000) said the subject was too bright, and after taking the photo it was completely white, you couldn't see anything. I haven't changed anything in the settings but making the shutter speed a little longer (it was set for 15sec from my last project). How can I fix this?

Thanks!

Is this considered a real camera?

i was out and about taking pics with my D7100

there was a couple, a man and a woman, nearby talking

the woman pointed at me and said, "now THAT is a real camera"

i just smiled and said thanks (the guy with her was twice my size so i got outta there before he thought something was up lol)

anyway, i do not know if he or she were professional photographers, but would a pro consider that model of Nikon a "real" camera, whatever that means:)

amateur / aspiring photographer:)

What lenses are compatible with the Nikon D3100? - 1

Basically my main question is when searching online for a lens how do i know if one i like is compatible with my cam. What do i have to look for?

For example in the link below i saw this lens which is at a pretty good price but i noticed the format is FX and my other lenses are DX format… Is that an issue?

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/AF-Zoom-Nikkor-70-300mm-f%252F4-5.6G.html

And yes im a rookie at all of this… Hence the rookie level camera…

Thanks for the help!
