I see it has a live view mode which is different than in d3000 model.does this live view only work when recording a video or can you also use it to see what you are going to take a picture of?

Macro Filter Suggestions?
Hi I have a Nikon d5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens. I don't have the money to purchase a macro lens, however I would really like to shoot some macro shots. I have seen people using these filters that attach to the lens, and I have seen several cheap on ebay. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some reputable and good quality filters. Thanks!

Which entry level DSLR? - 1
My dad is giving me the choice of a Nikon D3100, Canon 1100D or Sony A37 for Christmas. I'm leaning towards the Sony right now but I'd like some second opinions. Thanks!

When will we see the Nikon D7000 (Body only) fall in price to £500 GBP?
I am going to wait until the Nikon D7000 (Body only) falls to £500 GBP (brand new on Amazon) I am not buying 2nd hand before anyone says buy an almost new one. You get 2 Years warranty with a brand new one, You don't with a 2nd hand one.
They are down to £630 GBP on Amazon, But I suspect they will fall even more in price to £500 GBP.
My question is this… When will we see the price of the Nikon D7000 body fall to £500 GBP.
I Predict it will be around October 2013 (ish)

I want to buy a digital camera that's AT THE MOST $300. I know it's not much but I'm not in any shape to purchase a $600 camera yet.So I had a Nikon digital camera for 3 years but it recently broke. How beautiful is Dominican?
I'm going in March 2013 (3 months!) for my cousin's wedding.It's my first time going to Dominican and I'm unreal excited. I'm staying at the Majestic Colonial Resort on Bavaro Beach. I've been down south before but not on a resort, it was an outdoor ed grad trip to Belize.So I don't really know what it's to stay on a resort.Is it really hot in March? Should I bring my Nikon camera? Are the sunsets beautiful? How much money should I bring for excursions? (I'm really outdoorsey) AND will I love it?

New DSLR sigma lens 18-105mm, very dark photographs?
Hi, I am a relatively new to photography, so please bear with me. I have been using the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens that came with my D3100.
Recently, I bought a new sigma lens, 18-105mm. However since using it, my photographs became very dark.
I shoot in aperture priority mode & in the same room with my 18-55mm lens, with an f-stop of 5.6, & ISO of 100 the shutter speed required would not be so slow, & allowed me to capture the room well lited.
But with my new lens, with the same f-stop of 5.6, the shutter speed would be about 1-2s in the same lighted room. Why is this so? Is it a camera setting or the lens? Please help me & once again, I am still relatively new to DSLR lens & equipment! Thank you! :)

Camera Advice (mirrorless vs DLSR) for Beginner?
I want to learn about photography and how to take good pictures in a more manual-type setting. I know that cameras have great auto modes these days, but I want to learn about Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO.My price range goes up to about $600 USD and Amazon has great prices right now.
Right now, I am looking at a Nikon D5100 DLSR camera with a stock 18-55 mm lens. Thoughts? It's currently selling for around $550 USD on Amazon.
I have heard that compact system (mirrorless) cameras are taking over, and that DLSRs will soon become obsolete. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? If I were to look at a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses and highly accessible manual settings, what are my best options?

Photographing an indoor party?
I have a Nikon D3000 and a 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens. I did have an 18-200mm Tamron zoom lens, but unfortunately that had to be sent off to Tamron for repairs about a week ago. I have a tripod, but I have no external flash, just the pop-up flash on the camera.
Though I'm shooting an indoor party, it's at around noon, and my client has a good number of windows in their home for natural light, so it shouldn't be too dark.
What is the best strategy for getting the best shots possible? I'm going to take shots of the decorations and things, try and get some candid shots, and a family portrait.
I'm obviously not a professional (getting paid less than $50), but I want to do my best since I've committed to this job.

Taking warm/cold white balance photos?
I need to take two pictures of a subject where one is had a warm white balance and the other has a cold white balance.
I use a Nikon D3000 and I tried doing it but I am not sure if I am doing it right. I can't find my manual for my camera, so I would not know which white balance settings to use (fluroscent, sunny, etc).
When I do need to change the balance, would I need to take a new photo using a new balance or do take the picture and then edit it to a new balance?
Also what subject would be good for showing the white balance?
I got this camera off my brother as a present so I only had this for a little while, also it was second hand so i think he might have lost the manuel.

Increasing shutter speed of Nikon D3200 while using the built-in flash or a speed-light?
Hi there,
I am very new to DSLR photography having recently bought a Nikon D3200. I was trying increase the shutter speed in an evening shoot so that I could darken the background while still illuminating my subject ahead using my built-in flash. I then realized that I could not increase the shutter speed beyond 1/200th of a sec.
My query is that it possible to increase the shutter speed of my camera using speed light specially the entry level ones like Yongnuo YN 560-II or Nikon SB-400 or I need to go for more higher end version.

I have to take three pictures, and two of them being rule of thirds and deading lines. I can't find my manual for my camera so I need to ask here.

Are Tamron lenses better than Nikon's?
Or at least the 70-300 VC. I went to camera shop to ask about lenses and everything to get a sense of what I needed to start saving, and I originally asked for Nikon lenses, but the clerk steered me toward Tamron. I don't doubt the Tamron I'm speaking of is a good lens- I tried it out myself and he showed me shots from a promotional book taken with it - but he said Tamron is better and mentioned how they've been in business for quite some time. I've always been under the impression you should get lens from Nikon or Canon and I was surprised he started to try to sell me this. Just want info from more photographers.
