Nikon D40 will not focus when my flash isn't on?

I have a Nikon D4O that shoots just fine when the flash is on (I will talk about that in a sec) but when I put it on the setting where there isn't a flash the picture won't focus! It comes out blurry and it wont focus on anything. Also the sound when it clicks has a delayed click-click sound. (I'm not an advanced photographer I'm sorry). And when I try and take a picture of myself, the flash makes me look like a ghost! HELP PLEASE!

Camera extension tubes won't click?

I just purchased a set of Vello extension tubes for my Nikon D3200, and when I attempt to twist them onto the camera body they will not click into place. As a result, the camera tells me there is not a lens attached and I cannot take pictures.

Is there a fix to the tubes that I can do myself to make these work?

Can i get an unbiased opinion about Canon DSLR?

i am leaning towards buying the Canon 70D with the 18 to 135mm and 70 to 300mm lens

but i just want some honest opinions about Canon dslr's

are they as good as Nikon? what about the lenses?

Which Nikon to upgrade to?

My fiance is using a D3100 right now and we're looking to upgrade. She photographs mostly children, new borns, toddlers, couples etc. She very rarely uses a studio, basically fields, trees, old buildings, barns etc. She has an 18-140mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm and whichever lens came w/ her D3100. My question is, which camera would be the most logical next step? D90, D5300, D7100? We'd like to stick with Nikon and have about $1,000 to spend, give or take a couple hundred. Nikon D3300 with Nikkor 85mm f/1.8d autofocus?

Hey guys,

So I'm getting the new D3300 because I just recently got into digital photography and was wondering if the 85mm 1.8d would be a good portrait lens?

I know it isn't AF-S, but that's where my question lies: Does the 1.8d not autofocus?
I've read everywhere that between the 1.8d and the 1.8g, you should opt for the 1.8g since it autofocuses.

I am confused on if I should get the 1.8d or not.
