Is it really necessary to have an i-TTL flash for my Nikon camera?

I am a photo enthusiast and I bought a i-TTL flash (Sigma EF 610 DG ST) recently and have the option of returning it. After using it for two days, I really wonder if I ever need one. Firstly, my house is very brightly lit and I can always use some lamp to highlight my subjects. If things are a bit dark, I could crank up the ISO, use a tripod and decrease the shutter speed etc… Bounce flash is good but I really wonder if it is better to return this and use the money to get a good zoom lens as I always try to use natural lighting if possible. I have a Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm lens and 50mm prime 1.8 lens. I could use this external flash only in TTL mode, full power, 1/16th. There are no other options. I do not have full manual control. The maximum shutter speed I can set is 1/200 I guess and I can't use it in bright sunlight when my subject is having shadows on the face caused by the sun. I have to go for a reflector and I do not know if I can accomplish it with a flash. Moreover, the manual says that I have to use the flash daily in order to maintain capacitor operation. So what do you think I should do? I am confused. I don't use my DSLR everyday.

Best portrait bokeh lens for Nikon D7100?

I just upgraded from a D3200 to a D7100 and am trying to figure out a good portrait lens to purchase for it. I have the 55mm prime portrait lens but I feel like I have to back up too far to get a full body shot of my subjects. Weddings especially make this difficult, but I love the quality this type of lens gives me. My current portrait lens is also FX and I"m wanting the DX to get the maximum amount of quality out of my camera. Any recommendations for an inexpensive lens? (less than $400) I thought about the Nikon 35 mm prime lens. With it being shorter I figured I'd be doing less backing up. I'd rather have to move in closer than back up, especially if my space is limited.

What kind of zoom lense for bird photography?

Ok so i am pretty new to photography but i am getting better. I am mostly interested in bird photography. I have taken many pictures of birds in my backyard from hummingbirds to pileated woodpeckers. The crows are too scared lol
So i am looking for a lense with good zoom, at least 400mm. My current zoom lense is 55-200mm.

So my camera is a nikon d3300. I need a lense with at least 400mm zoom for photographing wild birds. I would like to photograph other animals too but i currently dont have the opportunity to. The lense cant be very expensive because i am a teenager and unless it is under $100 (ebay?) my parents will choose whether they want to pay it or not.

I put a picture i took of a hummingbird. The picture is compressed so it is blurry when you zoom into it. But the actual picture is very good. What kind of zoom lense for bird photography

Does the Nikon 105mm Macro lens work also as a zoom lens in a Dslr camera?

Does the Nikon 105mm Macro lens work also as a zoom lens in a Dslr camera?

Big doubt… Lol

Should I invest in a better camera body or lense?

I have a ~$2000 budget for camera gear and my shots will mostly be for a local newsletter. I want the ability to shoot all kinds of shots from sports (which may need telephoto) to portraits (which would benefit from high aperture lenses).

Assuming I wanted to go Canon, i'm thinking of investing in a mid-range DSLR camera body (like a 70D) and maybe a cheap telephoto lense to go along with the kit lense. Or I could buy a lower-tier body (like a T5i) and go with a better walkaround lense instead, or maybe even a ~50mm prime and a better telephoto.

What are your thoughts?

Camera or a Mobile Phone?

I know this is not an appropriate question, but I'm confused whether to buy a bridge camera or a smartphone. They are completely different but I need some help in deciding.

It's either a Nikon P900(83×Optical Zoom)or a Samsung Galaxy S7 (which will be announced on Feb 21).

I currently have a Galaxy Note 3 and I don't have a camera. Seeing the technology these days,it just confuses my mind. I like plane spotting as well. But the S7 phone keeps me from thinking again and as I told the phone has not been revealed to the public as of now I'm writing this post. Seeing all those teasers of the phone,am not sure if I should go for a camera or the phone.

**Please note** I know it's absolutely different matter to compare but I'm just looking for answers which would guide my way.
Thanks!

Why are my RAW photo files showing as only 18 in Photoshop?

Hi Guys,

This discussion has proved to be really useful as I've had the same problem and now I'm confused what I should do next. My RAW photo files are showing as only 18" in Photoshop. I need them to be printed at approx 40", would you just leave as is and send to print or re-size up to the correct size in Photoshop i.e in inches. Mine is displaying at 240 dpi/ppi but only 18" with RAW from Nikon. So not sure whether to leave it, scale up to correct size and keep resolution the same, or change both the size up and res to 300. Some help on this would be amazing.

Is it necessary to get a telephoto zoom lens for my DSLR?

I have the Nikon D5200 with the 18-55mm kit lens and the Nikkor 50mm 1.4g lens. The latter works great for portraits, street and low light photography while the former, which is a general purpose lens, helps me out in shooting wide shots. I do not have a zoom lens. More often than not, I find myself in situations where I cannot get closer to my subjects especially when I do wildlife or macro photography. Is a telephoto zoom lens (till 200-300mm) helpful or is there another way around to this? I do not wanna spend a fortune on this and my budget is less than $300.

Britek HS-1000 won't work with Nikon D100 and D50?

I just a bought a set of Britek light strobes and sometimes they will work with my D50 and D100. I am using a wireless trigger (Microsync) which works perfectly when I press the test button on the microsync. In both cameras, the strobe works sometimes and sometimes not, for no apparent reason, I have tried manual, auto mode, with cords, wireless…
Even the strobe wont work when I press the test button on the actual strobe… Weird.

Please help me if you have any idea… I read someone having the same problem with a D50 and a different Britek strobe. Thanks!
Added (1). FIXED! I found out that Nikon has a lot of hotshoe problems… Anyway, I scraped the metal contacts on the hotshoe very lightly with a pocket knife and voilá! It works perfect now…

For my fellow photography dorks- Nikon FA lenses, digital recommendations, camera bag?

I'm an aspiring photographer and I currently have a Nikon FA 35mm film camera that I usually shoot in black and white. I was doing a shoot this last weekend in Maine, and I realized that, with my current 35mm lens, I can't get a shot in focus that's any closer than about 18 inches or so. Does anyone have any recommendations on lenses I should look into? I do tons of portrait shooting and it'd be nice to have something reliable.
I'm also looking into getting a nice digital camera for my birthday (I'm talking Canon Rebel nice), if anyone has any recommendations on what I should consider, since I'm really into portraits.
Lastly, I have a camera bag right now that, while I love dearly, is getting pretty shredded from all of the use. Any ideas where I could get one big enough to hold a considerable amount of stuff (ie a digital and film camera, a few lenses, several rolls of film, and perhaps my portrait makeup collection) within a reasonable price point?

Is it worth buying the Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens for my Nikon D3200?

I have a Nikon D3200 and am quite happy with it. I am not a professional photographer but love the art. I have the kit lens but since i have a garnered a decent knowledge about photography, I am looking for a prime lens. 35mm and 50mm f1.8 seems to be economical, however the problem is the crop factor in the DX type cameras. I was thinking if Sigma 30mm will be better as it is three times the cost of a Nikon prime lens. The reviews and samples are so good.
