I have a Nikon D5100- working perfectly, except that my tripod got knocked over and the lens broke off the camera. Camera seems to be fine, but the lens wont stay on and the hood for the lens is broken. I have a 3 year Blacktie protection plan with accidental damage coverage. When I bought this, it was purchased as a bundle, so when I went to go see if I could get the lens replaced, they told me that just the camera was covered.
This is fine- the lens wasn't super expensive and it still works- just wont stay on the camera itself.
Now, my real question. This plan is set to expire in January of 2015. I'm wondering if they will replace it for me if there happens to be any substantial damage to the camera. I mean- I purchased a replacement plan, not a repair plan… But I understand the limitations to the coverage. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience here.
I told the guy what happened and that I didn't know if any of the pieces went into the camera or if the camera sustained any shock damage due to the fall. He just gave it a once over, turned it on and said it was fine. I was annoyed. I just don't want things to be fine for the moment, but then as soon as my insurance expires, it decides to start freaking out on me.
Any serious answers would be appreciated.
