My Nikon D7000 isn't shown when connected using Lightroom 5?

So i haven't used lightroom 5 in ages and never use to have problems with it, but for some reason my camera isn't showing up when using the tethered cable to connect it to my mac. This is a problem because i want to import photos from my camera and eventually export.

Thanks.

My camera didn't come with a USB cable. Is it okay to use my phone USB cable or I have to buy a Nikon's cable?

The photos transferred without a problem using my phone USB cable.

Is it fine to use a cable that isn't from Nikon's?

Creating a diy polymer lens filter for the solar eclipse and I want to make sure I'm not damaging my dslr light sensor

Question:
I was wondering if using this film would I need to use a certain f/stop or ISO to ensure the sensor is not damaged while shooting. Would simply using this film would prevent this from happening?

Details:
Recently bought a Nikon D3300, this would be my first time owning a DSLR. I have taken classes during high school and I know how to use and take care of a camera (no concern there).

There's a solar eclipse happening this weekend and I want to be able to take images of the event. I understand that you can damage the light sensor inside the camera if pointed directly at the sun. I have seen lens that you can use and apply, but unfortunately would not deliver in time for my trip ( poor planing/ buying the camera was unexpected and not originally intended for this). My friend purchased this polymer film (he gave me the link below) that is suppose to be used for telescopes and was kind enough to give me some.

This would be my first time attempting to take pictures of the sun and would like to preserve the quality of this camera to the best of my ability.

I'm typically resourceful when researching this information online but l was unable to find specifics to ease my concern. Any personal experience / feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Recently bought a Nikon d3300 and a polymer sheet for a diy solar lens filter for my lens. Will using this damage my DSLR light sensor?

Are there certain setting I should use to prevent damage? ( like a closed appature)?

Polymer for diy solar eclipse filter?

Recently bought a Nikon d3300 to get back into photography (took classes in hs but never owned my own camera, I know how to work and take care of a DSLR). There's a solar eclipse this weekend and I purchased a polymer sheet to create a filter (link below). I wanted to make sure that I'm not damaging the light sensor inside the camera. Would having the f/ stop or ISO higher/ wider appature cause damage even with using this filter?

I typically do not ask questions because most the time there would be a comprehensive article regarding this, but I was unable to locate this information online. Also, me owning my first dslr /would be my first attempt at taking photos of the sun I would like to persevere the quality of this camera as long as possible. Any feedback/ personal experience would be great and thank you for helping me in advance!

70-200 2.8 on aps-c (Nikon)?

Is 70-200 f2.8 too long of a lens for outdoor potraits?

I'm currently looking for a lens for my crop sensor nikon body to get a "dreamy" potrait (lots of blur)

I already own the nikon 35mm 1.8 and sigma 17-50 2.8
both these lens are not giving me the dreamy look i'm looking for.

Is the 70-200 a useful focal range for asp-c sensor? Or is there other lens that could result in this "dreamy" look i'm looking for?

I will primary shoot half body but I wouldn't mind doing head shot and full body

Is it safe to take a photo of a solar eclipse?

I'm using a Nikon d5100 which is a DSLR. I don't have any kind of solar filter to use, but I was wondering if it is safe for me to quickly take a photo of a partial solar eclipse? I'm using an 18-55mm lens.
