Lens recommendations for a beginner in photo/videography?

I own a Nikon D3300 with the standard 18-55 Nikkor that came with the camera when I bought it. I'm enrolled in film school and it's about to begin shortly, so I'd like to know what kind of lenses I would probably need for shooting videos. We will cover commercials, documentaries, some photography, short films, etc. I've been told to get a wide angle lens by a few people, but I'm thinking of a zoom lens as well… Anyway, any recommendations? Please explain in simple terms since I probably won't understand most of the technical jargon and I'm still a beginner. Thanks in advance.
Added (1). B K: I've learned about lenses and focal lengths and finished the first year of film school (sorry if my talk of being a beginner sounds like I haven't learned anything, but by rights I'm still very much a newbie compared to my classmates) and the 18-55 has been enough so far. But I was advised to get new lenses since second year will be more intense. I know I'd need new equipment sooner or later, and I'd like to buy them now since I'm on holiday and they're a lot cheaper in my home country.
Added (2). B K: Yes. I've tried to get more information on what projects we'll do next, but the best I got is "documentaries and short films." So definitely nothing crazy like wildlife or sports just yet. I guess I'm looking for an all-around lens that can fit multiple purposes? Sorry for the lack of information, but thank you anyway for your answer and consequent updates.
