Nightscape & Cityscape Photography?

I'm new to photography I have a Nikon d3100 and was wondering how to take cityscape photos. My photos also turn out overexposed or underexposed and I can't figure out why. Like what should I set my settings to Aperture and Shutter. For example in Times Square nyc what would be an ideal camera setting? & also shout I leave the exposure compensation at its default or? When exactly do I change that?

Decent astrophotographing solution?

Hello. I am still researching about astrophotography and recently joined an astronomy club. My hopes are that in about a year from now I will be able to buy a decent telescope and EQ-G mount. I am still in a research phase of the astrophotography field but I am not new to astronomy or using a DSLR. So far I've managed to determine what I want to achieve and that is, good astro photos and decent deep space observations, also I don't like the diffraction spikes that newts do. Here are a few telescopes that caught my attention:
1. Sky-Watcher Esprit 80ED APO Triplet
2. Sky-Watcher 7.5" f/5.3 Maksutov-Newtonian Telescope
3. Sky-Watcher 8" f/3.9 Quattro Imaging Newtonian Telescope
4. Orion 8" f/3.9 Newtonian Astrograph Reflector Telescope
5. Explore Scientific Maksutov-Newtonian F/4.9 152 mm

I am looking into either a refractor or a newt reflector telescope. The research I have done so far told me that a refractors or a maksutov-newts are better for astro imaging than a newtonian (mostly because I don't like the diffraction spikes), but since price is an issue I am willing to do trade-offs in effort to get the best for the money solution. Keep in mind I am only a novice and I am still researching. So here is my question, which of these telescope is best for my needs and what mount would I need for that telescope considering the weight of all the extra equipment needed? Also what extra equipment would you get for astrophotograping for telescope you recommend? I own a Nikon D7200.
Added (1). I forgot to mention the Orion ED80T CF Triplet Apochromatic Refractor Telescope.

Which camera will give best Image and Video with best Autofocus with kit Lens?

Samsung NX500 (my preference)
Sony a6000
Nikon D5500
Nikon D3300
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100

I will not make photography as my profession so I will never buy or invest in lenses so I will use only KIT lenses
Which camera with kit lens give best Image and best Video with fast Autofocus in Video/moving object

I know some are APS and some are Four Thirds, Nikon are DSLR and others are mirrorless but please consider regardless of type

I also noticed in Sony a6000 some time in live view I see black strip/zebra line on few random object (it’s not focus peaking, I know that) so this is a bug in a6000.

I will appreciate for your valuable review, please rank out this list order wise, if any of models which are better then above list eg from Fujifilm or Olympus or Canon then include that also (it should be Mirrorless and budget between $300 to $850 with Kit Lense)
Added (1). in Nikon 5500, 3300 we can't see the setting changes (eg iso, Sutter speed, aperture etc) on Live View before taking Photo and view finder is only the option so in real time we can't take decision and for best settings we have to hit and try, see photo change another setting till we get best on one of the setting, it's annoying.
Added (2). Forget to add few more
Canon EOS M3, Fujifilm X-E2,X-E1, Olympus - OM-D E-M10, OM-D E-M5 II, OM-D E-M5, PEN E-PL7

What type of camera to buy?

I'm a film student and I'm looking for a really nice, high quality camera to work with, preferably something that can shoot professional-ish grade stuff. I'm fine with most cameras, but I'm thinking something like a Nikon 3200 or something like that. I need something durable and can last but also shoots well.

If you have a camera you like and think it'd be good for me to use, please let me know! My price range is from around $200 to $600- $700, but I'd prefer it not to go higher then $650

Cheers!

Can i be a photographer if i am bad at maths?

I have no idea how to work out crop factors. It does in my head just to look at this stuff:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/51820565
Added (1). Frank - "First, it's "math" not "maths." So you may want to be equally concerned about your English skills as you are with your math skills."

First, I have an A-level English degree. Next, I AM English. In England we correctly say "maths", as it is an abbreviated form of mathematics.

Finally, if I ever need the assistance of some obnoxious, condescending loser who thinks he can teach me my own language, I will be sure to send you a PM.

Nikon D7000 Focus-lock besides AE-L AF-L button?

I just replaced my D70s with a D7000. The D70s allowed me to press the shutter button halfway to lock the focus, and then recompose my picture without the focus changing before pressing the button the rest of the way for a photo.

I want to have the AE-L AF-L button as a dedicated AE-L exposure lock only.

Is there a setting in the menu that allows the focus to be locked via pressing the shutter halfway? I've looked through the manual and looked through the menu and haven't figured it out yet.

Thank you for your help!

Astronomy stargazing binoculars suggestions?

Okay so I've been doing a little bit of research on what to get for my first pair of stargazing binoculars because I'm taking a astronomy course for school this year. The most popular pair on Amazon.com is 15x70. When I was researching it said for beginners anything above 10x was hard to use for beginners. I want a good pair of stargazing binoculars for a noob like me. My price budget is $100. It would be awesome if you guys could make some suggestions for me:)

100D Canon vs D3300 Nikon?

Hi guys, well im a bit stuck, I have held both the cameras at the store and they felt quite similar, but the Canon felt a bit, a very small bit better. Next thing I want to consider is the kit lens, what kit lens is better? So I have done some research and this is what I found:

Nikon D3300 -- Canon 100D

Image quality: 82 -- 63 (also I want to mention my friend has some (good)lenses and a speedlite)
Weight: Similar, very similar
Speed: 5fps -- 4fps
Noise: 1385 -- 843
AF: 11 -- 9
Dynamic Range: 12.8 -- 11.3

AA Filter: No (better) -- Yes
HDR: No (manual) -- Yes
Weather: I dont care about this one
Movie: 60 fps -- 30 fps
Battery: Nikon

So, I have been to a shop, held both, did some research, I still can't pick, keep in mind that this is my first DSLR, but I have used one and know the ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture stuff and want to experiment more. Keep in mind my friend has a lot of accessories for Canon but the initial Nikon specs look better, however it lacks HDR. So what one is better?

How to make a HDR in photoshop or other editing software?

My Dslr (Nikon D3300) doesn't take HDRs but I have heard that it if you pop the camera on a tripod and take 3 pictures of the same scent, one in lowest exposure, one in the middle and one at the highest exposure. Once you have the three photos what do you do?

Buying a new camera?

So I am in the market for a new DSLR camera and I'm really only looking at nikon or canon. The only type of experience I have is with the canon t5. I'm not too worried about learning how to use them as much as I am about a good quality camera. I feel like I'm more towards nikon and have been looking at the nikon d5500 or 5300. Would love multiple opinions my price range is going to be 600 ish maybe 700 with lens included. I can buy body only and just go with a very good lens also. Thanks!

What camera should I purchase within a price range of $1000?

Hi!,

I'm about to purchase my first DSLR. I already have an SLR (35mm), but now I wanna get digital.

My options are:
The Nikon D7200 (maybe the 7100) and
the Pentax K-3 II.

I'm just looking for a camera between these to, no Canon for me!

I'm struggling to decide, because Nikon is a good brand with a wide range of lenses available (even of second hand). But Pentax seems to offer more for the price (even with its lack of lenses).

So I don't know! I want this camera to last for at least 5-10 years (yeah, I know). And I'm planning to travel around Europe.

Any other suggestions are welcome! :)

Is the Nikkor AF-S 35 mm 1.8 DX compatible with the Nikon d800?

I was under the impression that most any Nikon lens (being all F mounts) would be interchangeable between DX and FX cameras. Yet my 35mm, which was bought for a DX camera, will not attach to the d800. Though I line up the indicators, I can t twist it into place without getting some serious resistance. Attaching the same lens to my DX camera is a breeze and requires very little force. The same is happening with my Nikkor AF-S 55-200 mm 5.6 DX lens, and with my Nikkor AF-S 18-55 mm 3.5 DX lens. Are all of these incompatible with the d800 or am I missing something obvious?

Any TIPS for WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS for a BEGINNER?

Sorry too much capitalization.

I own a Nikon D3300 and I'm supposed to be the photographer in a small wedding this upcoming weekend.

I know my camera isn't that great and I'm honestly sort of shy about taking it to the wedding. I'm also nervous about being the photographer, my skills aren't sharp, I barely know the basics. My cousin who has a great load of cameras and lenses will be there, he wasn't asked to take pictures so it makes me nervous that I won't be able to get the job done.

The wedding will be outdoors. Any tips on what highlights to photograph? Also any tips on aperture and iso will be highly appreciated. This is a bit too much pressure.

THANK YOU OH So MUCH IN ADVANCE. GOD BLESS YOUR HEART.

Camera for Product photography?

I'm in the market to buy a new camera. I'm really clueless about cameras and photography. But I run a small online store and I want to improve on my product photography. I've been using my old Canon 450D and would like to upgrade into a mirror-less camera such as Olympus.

I'm interested in cameras like Olympus because it's compact and lighter than heavy duty DSLR camera such as nikon or cannon. Do you reckon Olympus will be good for product photography? Because I'm only taking photos of 40-60cm objects. Seems like Olympus is really good at landscape photography because of the art filters but I don't know if it's something commonly used for product. Would it be the same as other cameras because it is only a matter of lenses?

Any input or suggestions?

Lens optic comparisons?

I'm doing some video work, and I'm wondering which one of my lenses (nikon) will lead in terms of optic quality. I have the 90mm f2.8 tamron USD (more expensive version with internal focusing), 50mm f1.4 AF-D, 35mm f1.8 AF-S G (dx only). I'm shooting with a crop sensor body.

I'm after sharpness, minimal chromatic aberrations and minimal flares. Will the 90mm with the low dispersion elements have the best quality? Or will the newer, cheaper 35mm f1.8 have better image quality? Same goes with the 50mm, which one has the best optics in terms of sharpness, distortion, aberrations and flaring? I'm looking for responses from people who have had experience with these lenses.

When i take off the lens the body is able to get in more light. I have tried with the 30-55mm lens and that one lets in enough light. I have also tried reseting the camera to factory settings. Anyone have any idea as to why the 10-30mm lens for my J1 isn't letting in enough light?

Nikon 1 J5 or Sony a5100 for Youtube videos?

Hi, I was wondering what a better buy would be, the Nikon 1 j5 or the sony a5100? I already have the Canon 60d but I wanted a smaller more compact camera

The main thing I'm concerned about is the autofocus and video quality.

Which one would you recommend?

Return for refund ou exchange to Argos?

I bought a digital Nikon camera from Argos about 3 - 4 months ago for with I purchased 2-year Product Care for.
The camera is still in like-new condition, but the only disappointment is the zoom (both analogue and optical), 1 of the reasons why I got it in the 1st place (needed to shot from a distance to subject). I've noticed whatever the settings, pictures are always blurry whenever I zoomed, thus rendering the camera useless to me. Can I return to Argos for refund or exchange for something else in the same price range or above and pay the difference (do I have to?)

thanks all

What is a proper sub 1000$ scope for rifles chambered in.338 lapua mag?

I've heard due to the recoil & vibration etc, alot of lower end scopes are not fit to be put on a rifle of this stature. I've heard about the vortex viper and a model by nikon called the 6100 Elite? Forgot the name. But I'm just curious, but uninformed and led in circlea of trying to research and find other options on the web. Nightforce is an option yes, but only if I have 3500 haha. Any suggestions, please?

Nikon D 3000 new lens?

I currently own a Nikon D3000 with a 18-55mmf/3.5-3.6G AUTO FOCUS - DR VR Nikkor Zoom Lens
It has served me well for the past 3 years but it's time for an upgrade. I have a book blog and I would really like to take better pictures. Sometimes my books aren't the clearest. Which as you can imagine is very frustrating. If anyone has a suggestions on a new lens that would work well with my current camera I'd really appreciate it.

Is an iPhone 6 plus camera good for filming?

I know this is a dumb question since I'm considering buying a phone for a camera, but help me out if you guys can since I don't know my facts too well. I am a film maker, and for awhile I've been using a Samsung WB250F, but started to look back the quality just isn't as great anymore, I just doesn't have as high quality as i hope and looks pretty bad on retina screens. I've been trying to buy a new camera, and recently stumbled on an iPhone 6 Plus, that has a beautiful quality camera, and I do love the 60 frames per second recording, but is that a good idea? I've also been looking at Parasonic Cameras and Nikon Cameras, but I'm just not sure what to spend my money on, and which could offer my needs? Also, I saw an action cam by AEE, that has 4K recording and 60 FPS. Is that a good option too since it has high specs. Only thing that makes me skeptic about it is that it's only $250 which is really cheap and it's a go pro type device. Thank you

On-the-go tethering options for Nikon DSLRs?

I have two weddings coming up in October, and I would love to be able to use my Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 lens, which produces a beautiful asthetic at 1.4, but lacks the autofocus of Nikon's (much) more expensive version. Both my bodies (D300, D700) support live view. I am hoping to make a bracket for a monitor or tablet that I can quickly affix to my tripod while shooting to get crisp focus- this is difficult for my eyes when peeping through the viewfinder, and focus at 1.4 or 1.8 isn't but a few centimeters deep.

Has anyone done tethered shooting on location like this? I would prefer using a very compact set up, instead of a laptop, table, etc. My guess is that all I'll need is a monitor of some sort with a video input? I've seen at least one person use video input on a portable dvd player successfully with a D7000, but I'm not certain if that would work with my cameras.

Suggested Camera Settings?

I will be taking some "mugshots" of my local High School Fall sports teams in a few days. They will be taken inside of the High Schools Gym. After past trials, I always have huge issues trying to take photos in the poor/weird gym lighting, They always end up extremely noisy and/or the color is really off. So, what are some suggested settings (ISO, WB, etc.) to use to get better quality photos? Also, should flash be used?

Are these Nikon lenses good?

Im thinking about buying a Nikon d3300 with the 18-55mm lens that comes with it. My first question is, are the lens that come with it good for general photography and will they be able to capture good detail? Also im thinking about getting an extra lens later on, probably this one here:

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/Lenses/nikon/nikon-af-50mm-f1-8d-af-lens/25181/

Is this any good, or is the same quality as the one given with the camera? Because if it isnt that good i might save up for this one instead:

Playback display options on Nikon d5200?

In the playback menu on my 5200 there is playback display options. I wanted to use highlights and I have used them before but turned them off. Now I want them on again and I know how to turn them on you check the box just as you would for any of the options then click ok. My problem is that it never actually works. At first I though maybe I just don't have any highlights so I tried overview and histogram and everything else and nothing shows up after I take a picture and I can't figure out why. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be great.

Query about Nikon D3200?

Query about Nikon D3200?
Added (1). I tried shooting in manual mode but it gives very dark image. Everytime I switch to Aperture or Shutter Priority mode, the image shown becomes proper.

I tried same settings. That is, 1/60 F3.5 ISO 200 in both modes, but still manual mode shows dark images.

I can't compromise the shutter speed as it is needed while shooting videos. So what's the solution. It seems a common problem with Nikon DSLR.

Nikon D80 Compatible with this Nikkor 50mm?

I have a Nikon D80 and I need a cheap Macro Lens for product / close up mouth shots.
I was looking into a 50mm seeing as there only $120
I'm trying to make sure the lens will work with the camera body.
I personally use Canon and mine is a 58mm thread but I'm not sure how Nikon tells you.
The 50mm lens is a 52mm thread but I'm not sure how big the thread is in the D80.
Its a work camera that I haven't been able to get my hands on till later today and I need to order the lens this morning.

Here is the lens I am looking at.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/247091-GREY/Nikon_2137_Normal_AF_Nikkor_50mm.html

Thank you
Added (1). The ad for the lens says "Note! AF not supported by D40 and D60, D3100, D3000, D5000 cameras" I dont see the D80 in that list so am I okay?
