Can you manually focus your camera and still use autofocus?

Is it good for your camera to use the autofocus and maunally zoom? I am new to the camera "profession." I use the manual zoom in and the switch the m to a for autofocus.It gives the picture the focus it needs that I can't get with the manual sometimes.Is this bad for the camera? Or is it normal? I have a Nikon d3200.

But no image stabilization?

I wanna get a beginner dslr, i am a beginner and this would be my first ever. I wanna get the nikon d5100, or d3200 or something but they have no image stabilization automatically. I dont know how to do that, so if i got one would all of images be blurs? Thanks!

Which lens should i use?

I picked up my first SLR camera, it's a Nikon D3100 it came with 2 lenses (18-55mm & 55-200mm) and was wondering which one would be best for taking pictures of lightning and severe weather and the advantages of the 2 lenses? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is Nikon d40 still a good camera in 2013?

Found a used Nikon d40 I might buy. Not sure about a camera with fewer megapixels than my phone(6.1). Anyone with experience with this camera let me know how well the pictures turn out? How large can I enlarge a photo before it starts to look pixelated? I currently use a film slr (k1000) and a digital bridge camera(16.1 mp fujifilm) and just want to be sure I'm not taking a step back.

Nikon D60 in very low light?

I wanted to shoot a very clear, starry sky. I set the camera up on a tripod, set the camera to all manual settings, and used my remote release. I opened the aperture all the way and set the shutter (at first) to 30". The camera kept indicating "low light" and would not release the shutter. I then tried the bulb setting with the same result. I have taken these types of photos before with success on my old 35mm. There were two photos I wanted: one of the milky way and then an extended shot with the stars creating swirled lines (for a lack of a better way of describing it) - the latter I would have set the shutter for at least a couple hours or so. How can I get my camera to take shots like this?

Should I switch to Nikon? - 1

I own a Canon Eos T3 or 1100D and I got this as a beginner. I was going to by the Nikon D3100(Because it looked really cool and sexy and I liked the button layout) but I was lured to the T3 because of the number of lenses and HD video mode. But now I realize I don't use the HD video a whole lot and only want to buy 3 lenses in total. I am going to buy a 50mm 1.8 lens this week and I also have my 18-55mm lens. I am 14 years old and I am going to buy a new camera after or during high school. I was planning on getting a 60D. I will not get any lenses after my 50mm lens from Canon until then so I was thinking of switching to Nikon again. I heard that Nikon is much better for stills then Canon. And I take pictures of my church and events, mostly basic things, I am not in no means a professional photographer or want to be one, I just want to take pictures well and be a amateur.So I want to know if I should stay with Canon or switch to Nikon in a couple of years. And if you can recommend a Nikon Camera for me that is equivalent to the Canon 60D that would be very helpful. THANK YOU.
Added (1). BraiR, First of all I do know why I want a 50mm lens and this lens is so for the only one I feel like I need,
and I want an 'upgrade' for more flexibility in my pictures, which I will need after I get better at photography,
I was going to buy the Nikon because of it feels better in my hands, and I like the buttons,
I HEARD that the Nikon has better photo capabilities and the Canon has better video capabilities which I don't really use.

Ive been desperately wanting a Professional camera, for a very long time but the prices on the nice, ones with adjustable lens and focus and the Very nice quality ones, for taking Professional photos, I love snapping photos and got so much complements on how good I am, by just using my galaxy phone, but they're so expensive. Developing photos? came out pixelated?

So i own a nikon d5100, i used it to get a family photos of my kids and i. (using raw files) when i finished i went to walmart to printout the photos i took through USB. then when it came out it was pixelated so bad that i can even recognize our faces.so my question is does it need to be in jpeg format? how can i get the best quality when prinnting/developing photos for portraits? thank u so much guys!

Does anyone have proffesional photos taken of their art or themselves?

I would like professional photographs of my art I've got a professional Nikon digital camera and a tripod but somehow they never come out looking as they are in real life. I spend so much time on small bits of detail in a painting and I want it all visible but it always comes out blurry and the lighting is wrong in all the rooms of my house. Does any of you artists out there get that done? You can still answer if no and give me tips if you have any. If you do, where do you go and how much do they charge?

How to take good pictures with a crappy camera?

I have a Kodak easy share c1450 point and shoot.It takes decent pictures, and I won't be able to upgrade to the Nikon d3100 at least until late August. Its pictures always seem to turn out grainy (it is 14 megapixels). I want to get the best use I can out of it because I'll be stuck with it for a little longer. How can I take better pictures with it?

Note: I can change ISO. I don't know what long time exposure is? It is an option on it.

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX50 good audio quality at concerts? (no distortion afterwards)?

I will buy the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX50 if i know for sure it has good audio playback in loud areas mainly including concerts.at a £309 camera i would hope so it does this job anyway.it's currently the best camera for concerts i can find after looking among others for hours on hours for the past week.i've tried looking at Nikon 1 J1 and the lens will not reach the stage enough.and all the other compact cameras have at least 1 disadvantage for what i use it for.

What is a CSC 10-30mm lens equivalent to of optical zoom in P&S camera?

I am considering buying a Nikon J1 Compact system camera and it comes with a 10-30mm lens i looked on the nikon lens simulator and it doesn't look too bad.but im not sure if it will suffice for use at concerts (i do plan to take a few shots with it then put it away, for good quality memories!) i don't know anything about compact system camera's..do they not have a normal zoom feature at all? only relying on lenses to zoom in and out? if so i am hoping 10-30mm lens will do the job i am sat this far from the stage (i include a printscreen picture from a picture i took at last concert)

How to get this menu off my Nikon D3100?

When I go to view the pictures I've taken, there is a menu up and my pictures can only be see very tiny in the upper left hand corner of the screen - the rest is the menu. The only way to view my photos bigger is pushing zoom while on that menu (view/delete picture screen) but then it zooms in too much and I can never view my full picture. I've tried to reset camera settings, I've looked through the user's manual, googled it, and I cannot figure out how to get my camera back to the regular viewer that it was when I bought it. I don't know if I hit something accidentally or what. Thank you!

Why are my pictures blurry when I import from my Nikon D3100 to IPhoto?

On my camera, the pictures looks perfect and in focus. When I import them to Iphoto the thumbnail are good but when I click on the photo to edit, It's gets blurry? I have tried taking pictures with different aperture, ISO and setting and it's always blurry.Is there another program I can use to open my photos on my Macbook? Why is it doing this? HELP!

Photo's too bright on slow shutter speed with Nikon D3100?

I can take slow shutter pictures at night with no problems, see the link below


I could take a picture like that just fine by lowering the ISO to 100 and putting it on a 15 second shutter speed but if I try to take a picture during the daylight ( of water for example) its too bright

do I need a neutral density filter? if so what type as I'm so new to this

is this okay?

Am using third party battery grip for my nikon D3200 for a week now, the legit nikon batt and the third party batt were both recognized by the cam.both batteries were inserted eversince until battery indicator triggers low batt alarm.my question is are they both being consumed while both are inserted? i inserted them one at a time and both indicates low batt alarm.pls advise..thanks

How to take self portraits with timed autofocus on Nikon D3100?

I run an online clothing store and I usually have someone photograph the pictures while I model the products.
Well, I don't have anybody to take them for me anymore. I bought a tripod to take the pictures myself, but I find it very difficult and time-consuming to get the correct position, zoom, exposure, and focus.
What I have been doing is place a chair on the spot where I will be standing and focus on the chair. This is still trial and error. Most of the time, the pictures are not sharp enough.
I order a cheap $4 remote online and turns out this specific camera is not compatible with wireless remotes.
Is there anything else I can try?

Cant upload pictures to facebook using a Nikon D5100?

Alright so i recently bought a Nikon D5100 for a Photography class im taking this year and so i took a few pictures, took out my SD card, plugged it into my computer, Edited the pic to JUST give it a Watermark. Thats it, just a watermark. Then when i try to add it onto facebook, i get "Bad Image" pop up. Can anyone help with this?

Using a nikon adaptor to use the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens on Sony Alpha?

I am desperate to use this lens on my Sony Alpha but so far all I've seen are Canon and Nikon mounts. I have heard of an adaptor that will make nikon lenses usable on Sony Alphas. How does this work and will it have a significant effect on the image quality?

There is a discontinued version of the lens for Sony and Konica Minoltas, but I've heard that it isn't a true macro lens like the canon and nikon one… So I was thinking about getting a nikon/canon version of the lens and getting an adaptor for it to work on my Sony Alpha 57. I'm really stuck to this lens because I've found some $200 deals online and it has build and image quality that I really need.

Canon AE-1 or Nikon F2?

I have the F2, but since I'm a Canon user, I would rather use a Canon. A friend of mine has the AE-1 and would like to swap it with my F2.Is it worth it?

What would be a good flash for Nikon D3100?

I just got a Nikon D3100 and am looking for a decent flash that can also be used as a slave flash. Something that would work and be compatible with the RF-602. I'm looking for something that can do manual adjustments (not too worried about auto), but will also work ON my Nikon as an external flash attachment.

I'm looking at the YN-560 mark II flash.

I currently have the Olympus SP-600UZ 12 MP but it is just isn't a good camera in my opinion, kind of cheap and not good quality. I am currently saving money for a Canon Rebel EOS T3 that is 12.2 MP but i'm worried that it will still be the same quality. I'm wondering if Olympus 12 megapixels is the same as canon's 12 megapixel or if canon's may be better because it is higher quality camera. Please help out and give whatever advice you can to me on cameras or if there is a better camera from another brand like Nikon or something. I'm wanting to use it for travel, landscapes and such and of course on friends. Thank you!

What are the cons of using nikkor lenses on a canon?

I am a ameture photographer that has 3 nice lenses for a Nikon D3000 and I got a Canon t2i which produces better pictures! I was wondering if I would lose quality if i use the Adapter to make the Nikkor lenses work on the canon or lose anything else that is different from the canon lenses? I heard you lose autofocus but thats just it. But I dont know what else I'd lose! Thanks.

A good entry level DSLR for beginning concert photography?

I am looking for a good DSLR camera (my budget is $470.00) i want to start doing some concert photography, but i would like to know what would be the best camera for the job? I am looking at the nikon D3100, though i am not completely sure as to how it will perform in a concert setting (low light, etc) any suggestions ?

What are some affordable cameras with good video and picture quality?

Hi, I currently have a Samsung TL205 and I absolutely hate it.It takes horrible pictures unless there is amazing lighting. I also would like the camera to have nice video quality, but I'm more concerned about the picture quality. I was looking into some nikon and canon cameras, but they were all very pricey. I'm looking between the price range of $100 - $200. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best way to create large hi-Res AO size prints?

I want to create some very large (AO size or larger) (33" x 46"?) prints of interiors and possibly from a trip to Egypt.

The two ways I have thought are -

1. Nikon D800 with high quality lens. (Probably turning the camera through 90 degrees and creating a series of photos that can be 'stitched' in software to make very high res.panoramic shots)

2. Large format 5" x 4" camera with a wide angle lens around 90mm. Obviously there is then the cost of getting the transparencies scanned and digitized.

If I go for option 1 -
what focal length to use to take each photo to make the panoramas? 35 - 50mm?
Best quality lens to use?

If I go for option 2 -
How much $ for a reasonably good 5 x 4 camera and lens?
How much $ to get each transparency scanned and digitised? Would it be worth buying a scanner?

I have considerable funds and I have thought about medium format but the cost is astronomical.

What is a great software program for beginning professional Photographers?

I'm looking for a photo editing program where i can created collages, add vignettes and etc. Similar to those they use at JC Penny, Olan Mills and so on! I'm just having trouble finding one. I use a Nikon D5000 Camera, if that helps any. :)

Best Compact System Camera?

Hi! I'm not a pro photographer but I am past the beginner stages. I use a Canon DSLR most of the time but I want a compact system camera because it's easier to travel with it. I'm looking for over 10 megapixels, interchangeable lens, wifi capabilities (preferably not having to buy an additional adapter) affordable (500 but hopefully 200-300 dollars) and if possible, has a viewfinder, not just a LCD monitor. And SDHC card compatible. I was looking into the Nikon 1 Series, but they are really expensive compared to some other cameras, and don't have as many features. Well known brands are a plus for me too (: Canon Sony Nikon (if it's worth the price) etc.
Thank you for the help! And please don't say just use a DSLR, I'm looking for a compact system camera.

Nikon D5100 freezes when I try to record video? What Should I do?

I took it on a beach trip when i went with some friends and did a little filming on the beach. I filmed while at the ocean but I don't recall it getting wet at all. Everytime I ty to record the screen freezes and when I turn it off the screen stays at a display until I take the battery out. Please Help! Thanks

I am having some problems with me camera?

I have a 2 year old (almost 3 year old) Nikon D3100.It was working fine until recently. When I take it outside during the day it will say the subject it too dark to take a picture of but when the picture is taken its fine, it will even show up on the screen and through the view finder that it is showing up dark when its as in the middle of the day. I tried fixing the aperture, shutter and iso but nothing, I don't know what is wrong I don't think its the manual but I haven't looked.So please help me!

I Need one because I goofed and bought a very nice MKE-400 external shotgun mic for my Nikon 1 V1.

Looking to move past my entry-level DSLR?

I bought a nikon d3100 (mostly only use for video) as an affordable dslr while I was still in highschool. Two years later, I'm graduated and going to film school! I want to upgrade my camera but don't know what would be best. I don't have a particular preference as to nikon/canon. My mom said if she buys me a new camera in 2-3 years time I won't use it anymore because that's what happened to my Nikon digital camera. Also she said if my iPhone 4S camera is better and you are running out of storage, just transfer your pictures to your computer to free up storage space.
My dad said the iPhone 4S can take good quality pictures and because the photos I have taken are really good I don't need a camera. The reason is because I edit most of my photos before showing it to people. The only thing that's in my dads iPhones 4S is his 2000+ photos and few apps that's why he he said it enough to not by one. Also he knows I don't want a digital camera and he said it can cost more than a smart phone and there's too much to learn. I was thinking of getting the Sony Nex 6 camera.

I have lots of apps, recordings and music so the more I have of those the more its using my storage. I can't even take more than 900+ photos and it will tell me my storage is full. He doesn't really understand about that.

I don't just want a camera to take lots good quality pictures but to also make good quality YouTube videos like most youtubers do.

I know you might say if you really want one then get a part time job and use the money to buy one. I can do that but it's best to save up money at a young age than to waist it on something like that.At the moment I don't even have enough to buy a cheap good quality camera.

I've decided to buy the Nikon D3100 with the basic lens - 15-55.In London I'll be taking photos of everything… museums, the London Eye, views and other attractions. I'll be taking photos in small rooms, such as museums, and big places - such as some views.

Will 15-55 lens be good for taking this kind of London's photos?

DSLR problem Lense is Off center is what i think they call it?

Okay so this is my prob i have a Nikon D5100 and lately when i take pictures they seem fine on the viewfinder but when i take a picture and look in the gallery the pictures are not aligned with the picture i took the picture seems to be a little facing more on the left, but when looking at it on the viewfinder everything seems fine. Could this be a prob in the Lens or is it a prob within the cameras sensor, mirror or etc.??

I can't decide what SLR camera to get?

I have a vivtar 80-200mm 1:4.5 lens that's compatible with Nikons, but I have a Canon adaptor for it. I have a canon FD 50mm 1.8 lens. I also have zoom lens, except its for canon. Hello everyone. I'm starting to work on my Macro Photography more and more, and now instead of using my phone I'm going to start to use my camera again like I used to. Getting in to the close ups are a little confusing with my lenses though. There for, here I am.

I'm assuming the second lense is my best bet for what I want to do, but I got this feeling it's not what I really need though. Any advice and tips? I was hoping I had what I needed so I didn't have to spend all my money again haha. This camera was for what I used to do.

How much zoom will I get with a 55-200mm lens on my Nikon D3000?

I am a new DSLR user, and I have graduation commencement this Sunday. I found someone who is selling their Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR lens for $100. I am speaking at my commencement and I want some good quality photos of me on stage. I plan to offer the seller $80 for this lens, after I meet with them and ensure the lens is in good condition of course. I'm just curious if this will be enough zoom that I'm looking for. I used to have a Canon PowerShot and it had amazing zoom, so I was a little spoiled, but I wanted to upgrade to the good quality of a DSLR camera. I know it will be 3x zoom, but what exactly does that mean? How far away can I shoot, and will the pictures be good quality?

Right DSLR Camera for me?

Well, College is next fall, and I want to major in Film to work with Tv networks and on upcoming movies, etc. There are scholarships out there that require me to show pieces of work. Some of my courses in college will require some photography since it's a natural part of film.So why not get a decent camera that can do both pretty good? I'm looking for a DSLR camera that can suit my needs to build a work portfolio that a few colleges will ask for upon applying to their film departments. Any ideas, I'm looking at a Canon t3i 18MP camera that does around 3.7Fps, or I can maybe get a Nikon D5200 with 24.1MP and about 5fps. What would be a good choice or are there any others? The Rebel T3i comes in a bundle with a case, SD card, extra pair of lens for about the same price of the D5200 camera only. About: $800 with tax included.

NIkon lenses dilemma?

So I'm headed to school for photography and they recommend having 3 lenses. I own the nikon D5100 and the 2 lenses I have are pretty basic; the 18-55mm and the 50mm 1.8D. Below are the lenses i found that meet my "under $400 cause I'm a student who has no money" price range. From experience, which one would you think performs the best? Vanguard series 2 or savage 111 trophy rifle that come with scope i want already?

So im going hunting this fall, and im still 13 but im turning 14 on halloween, and deer season starts on november 16 here in south dakota.well my grandpa promised me if i worked for the money that he would buy me the rifle i wanted.i really want the Vanguard Series 2 in .270 win.but its $550 then add money for nikon prostaff which is about $180 and leupold ring and base combo pack another $50, so total amount is $780.but then i saw a Savage 111 trophy rifle with the scope i want and comes all how i want it for just $550.so should i try to work for the $780 or should i work for $550? i love to work and help my grandpa on the farm but he lives pretty far away, so should i go work with him and stay with him until summers over, or just go work at mcdonalds?

Low light concert] on d5100 18 55mm?

Hey guys, I need some tips. Some friends of mine are playing in a small venue in a few days and since I like photography and have some basic knowledge they asked me if I could take some pictures of them while they are playing. I love concert photography but I've never tried it. I will be able to be on stage and near the musicians so the zoom won't be a problem. Could you recomend some settings? I've got a nikon d5100 with the kit lens (18 55mm). They said they didn't need perfect or super profesional photos so they don't care if I mess up, they just want some decent ones. Thanks!

Which camera lens is best for portraits?

I have a Nikon D3200 with an 18-55 mm lens and 55-200 mm lens. I am doing my own senior pictures, with help from my parents, and I was wondering what is the best lens to use? I am looking into buying another one but I'm not sure which one would be worth it right now? I would be buying it in the next month. I'm thinking a 200-400 mm or something similar.
I'm also looking into doing some other senior portraits and possibly family/children/baby sessions, etc. What lens would you recommend me buying that I don't already have?
Please explain the purpose this lens would serve also, how would it help me with these portraits?

Trouble with smooth time lapse using CS6?

I went out and shot 550 j-peg images at 24MP. I came home and imported all of them into Premiere Pro CS6 and made sure I clicked the box that said image sequence so it would load all 550 shots at once in order. Then rendered the entire work area, and waited… then when I played it back it is real jerky and a lot of frames are being skipped. What am I doing wrong? I shot all the pictures using a Nikon D3200 with a Polaroid shutter release timer set at every 8 seconds… if that helps to know. Someone said it's better to shoot RAW? And in the Premiere program, my photos are so large that I have to reduce the screen size from 100% to 25% to see the whole frame.

I'm looking for a good telephoto lens to rent for my Nikon d3000?

I'm going on a safari in a few weeks and I am looking to rent a telephoto lens. I want something with very sharp images, but also a lot of range. I've been looking at the Sigma 50-500 but I'm not sure how sharp that will be, and I also want a larger maximum aperture.

I cant for the life of me find out how to disable the flash, there is only one section in the menu that mentions flash but it is greyed out and wont let me enter it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

One Direction concert!

Ok so on August 8th I'm flying out of state to LA to see one direction at the staples center. I have a few questions about all of it…

1) the concert starts at 7:30. What time should I plan to get there considering the line and buying merchandise.( we will be using public transportation so I won't need to worry about parking)

2) how much is merchandise? I know the shirts are like $35 but what else? How much money should I plan to bring ??

3) what should I wear? And what type of makeup? I can't decide if I should dress kind of regular or be decked out in all of my 1D stuff( or at least some of it).Ps.It is an indoor arena

4) what should I plan to bring into the arena with me? What type bag/purse? I plan on at least bringing my phone and Nikon digital camera for pictures and video.

5) should I try to make friends? And how? It's going to be just my mom and I and she isn't really looking forward to the concert and all the screaming girls and will probably sit the whole time.So how should I talk to the girls sitting by me?

6) what songs do they play ??(if you've been to the take me home tour)

Which DSLR, either Nikon or Canon, is good for using in low light surroundings?

I own a Canon EOS 1100D. I always shoot 100 ISO and want to. I have problems shooting portraits inside. I use my house light from the ceiling and with the light from my window, it is not even dark.It's quite bright actually. I always have to have my shutter speed on long exposure just to get the light showing. Even 1/60 shutter speed, and my image is quite dark. I tried everything.
Added (1). I am using an 18-55mm lens that comes with the 1100D.
Added (2). Just an addition to the question, I was thinking about buying the 600D, how is the low lighting situations with this DSLR?

Which camera suits more?

My wife really like taking photographs. She wanted to be a professional photographer.but she never learned any photography or anything. But she takes pictures with a normal 10.8 MP Samsung Digital camera, which is basic and 6 years old. I really want to buy her much professional camera and equipments she need to do photograph; and want to put her in a photography course in a collage. And I want buy a sony laptop which would very much good with photography. Not sure what when and which to choose. I want to give her full surprise with the complete package this year; as we are married five years, I really want to make her happy as her dream come true.

Why does my Nikon j1 only shoot for 2 minutes at a time?

My friend dropped my D5000 the other day, now when I use the LCD screen, it has a "shattered" appearance, but the screen itself isn't visablely damaged.Is there any way to fix this myself?

I have Nikon D3100 and I want to use flash wireless with an umbrella.

The flash that I found in my range was Nikon SB-600 but it can only be used on the top of the camera.

How to use a remote shutter on a Nikon D3100?

I just bought a remote shutter for my camera. I tried it inside and it worked fine, but when I took it outside to shoot star trails, I put it on Bulb, but it said it was too dark and wouldn't let me take a picture. I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

Need help deciding lenses.?

Ok, I am getting back into photography after 20 or so years and know little about the newer cameras. I just purchased a Nikon D7100 with the 55-300mm lens and need help on one for indoor/low light applications. I'm looking more for a general purpose lens that I can use inside, close range and in low lighting. This is what I'm considering:

Nikon - AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Telephoto Zoom Lens (Got this with the camera)
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Lens for Nikon DSLR

Any opinions or suggestions? I don't get my camera till Friday and want to make sure I have2 general purposes lenses.

Thanks for the reply. I was actually looking for a 18-55mm but had a bad time finding one in Nikon with AR. The 50mm will be a general purpose but I want something effective in low lighting. I really don't want to spend too much more but I don't want to waste money either.

New camera? uncertain what to do?

I have a Canon Eos Kissx4, which is the japanese version of the Rebel t2i. I am happy with its performance, having bought it for about $600 with a double lens kit about a year and a half ago. Now, my brother is looking for a used camera, and has offered to buy mine for $300 and I would upgrade to either a Nikon D 3200 or a higher-level Canon. Not sure if I want to yet. Thoughts?

It's on sale for around $800, but it comes with a few extra accessories. 18.0MP, 3.7Fps, standard lens, and an extra Canon EF 75–300mm III Telephoto Zoom Lens (What can I do with these? Lol.)
My question is, can this camera shoot video while snapping pictures at the same time?
I can get a Nikon D5200 for around the same price (Camera itself and standard lens) Its a 24.1MP with 5fps, and what not. And it CAN do the video, photo feature I'm asking about.

Using a third-party flash on a nikon d90?

I'm interested in buying a certain third-party flash for my d90. The flash can zoom, tilt, rotate and has a diffuser built in. The flash has only one button on it which is the on and off switch.It doesn't have an lcd, but it does have a sticker with a bunch of numbers (it's a manual flash). I would have given a better description of what was on the sticker but I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to read the sticker.

I'm not sure what the name is.It's not a big brand like nissin or yongnuo.

So what I'm wondering is: Can my camera control the flash? I read somewhere that you can't control third party flashes from your camera so I want to double check.

And what are the pros and cons of buying a third party flash?

I know that someone is probably going to tell me to buy a nikon flash, but I can't afford it at the moment. I will be getting one in the future.

Why do my RAW to JPEG conversions look darker?

Ok, they dont "look" darker, they are! putting my 2 images side by side, the raw file that i edit to my wants looks perfect, when i save it as a jpeg and open it, it comes out considerably darker and less "smooth" (looks more rough-ish). Why does this happen? i am new to this dslr stuff but i dont get why my images come out with less quality, it's very frustrating! i take pictures of food for a blog im starting and i want my images to be unchanged when i post them but the jpeg looks worse in quality.is there any way i can keep the quality i see in raw after it gets converted? should i just shoot in JPEG as opposed to RAW if converting is going to undo my editing anyways? some help would be greatly appreciated.

also, just in case, i have a nikon d3100 and i edit my raw files in adobe photoshop cs6.

Editing my video, help?

I have Pinnacle studio 16. I know how to edit my videos but the only problem is, is that when I upload a video from my Nikon d3100 into the computer and into the program to start editing it, when I click the play button to view the video it doesn't work. The audio run fine but the actual picture ( moving image) is slow and like lagging and I don't understand why. Whenever I look at the video that they put already as like a preview to see what it looks like the video runs fine. But when I start my own project the video doesn't run smoothly. Also how do I save the video so that its just the video and not the whole program coming up so that I can upload it to youtube?

Thoughts on sigma 17-50mm?

I am in search for buying new lens but dont know if its best to choose a fixed/prime lens like nikon 35 mm or choose one like sigma 17-50mm.What troubles me its that, if buying a fixed lens i will always have the limit of 35mm but if choosing a lens like sigma 17-50mm i will have thaechange of shooting in variety of focal lengths(from 17-50). i want lens with wide aperture
What i will be shooting is street maybe some distance candid photos and some portraits.

Will the sigma 17-50mm work for all these kinds of photography?

It i insert the memory card, the dslr keeps on reading the card even when it is off.i thought that it might be a virus in the card which is makin it read it.but when i keep the camera without the memory card also, the battery drains early.the problem is not with the battery which im sure.can u tell me how 2 reset my camera

Hi, I was thinking about buying a portrait lens, and saw the 85mm 1.8, and tried the 85mm DX EQUIVALENT focal length on my 55-200mm DX lens.So I set my 55-200mm lens to 127mm, is what I'm looking at on my 55-200mm lens exactly what I'm going to be looking at if I buy the 85mm lens for my DX body? Or will I be looking at the 85mm focal length from my 55-200mm DX lens on the FX 85mm prime? I'm confused!
